Awards and tagged

Pin It Now!

I've been given so many awards and tags in the last couple weeks so I've put them all together here. (I apologize if I missed any) I'm not going to pass these on because this took long enough to just put this together!

First off...I was tagged by Suzann~Lavender and Roses to show you five things I love about my state, the state of California. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area so I'm going to only focus on Northern California. There a so many things I love about this area that it was hard to just pick five (so I didn't)!

1. The Golden Gate Bridge ~ I've driven across it so many times in my life but I still feel in awe every time! It's a must see if you ever come to California!

2. The Northern California Wine Country is another wonderful thing about living here. It's fun to drive to Napa but there are also some great wineries just minutes from where I live. Some of the best dates I ever had were wine tasting and picnics at the winery.

3. Another great thing about living here is visiting Carmel by the Sea! It's such a beautiful place and I feel very fortunate to live close enough to visit easily. It's a little over an hour away.

4. We don't get snow where I live but if we drive a few hours to Lake Tahoe there is lots of snow and great skiing. I used to ski a lot when I was younger. I'm not sure how my knees could handle it now!

5. The produce here is better than anywhere I've visited. Our farmer's markets are every weekend, year round! I think a lot of people would be surprised by how much farm land is still here in California. Most of the central valley is still agricultural.

That's my 5 but I feel like I need to mention a few more great things about Northern California:
  • My daughter's favorite thing is the sourdough bread which is the real San Francisco treat!

  • Great Seafood ~ Eating fresh crab, mussels, oysters and salmon (with sourdough bread of course)!

  • The beaches ~ It's 30 minute drive over the hill for me but I love to go to just smell the fresh ocean air!

  • The weather ~ I think most people move here for that.

  • High Tech Jobs ~ Most of the time in Silicon Valley there are plenty of jobs. You can work at great places like Yahoo, Google, eBay...

  • Cultural Diversity ~ I like living in a place were cultural diversity is accepted and appreciated. It's not perfect here but I think people are a lot more accepting of others here.
  • Shopping~there are so many great shops and flea markets here.
I could go on and on, I think most people are proud of the state they live in so I'm sure you can understand.

I really apologize for not forwarding all these on but I find it really hard to single out bloggers...I don't want anyone to feel left out so I won't pick anyone!

Also, I've been getting so many emails lately and I've been trying my best to keep up with them but I'm finding it very difficult. If you sent me an email and I haven't responded, I'm so sorry! I've also had a lot of my emails going directly into my SPAM folder so I'm having to spend extra time looking through those each day.

Hi Cindy:
Beautiful pictures of northern Calif. I haven't been there in years, so it brings back memories. Do you ever worry about breaking down in your car going over the Golden Gate bridge?
My boys and their spouses were there a couple of years ago and did the Alcatraz tour and Napa Valley. They said it was awesome.
You are lucky to have everything close by.

Whew!!! That took a lot of time to get all the answers. One of my favorites in your list is about Carmel. It is like a little fairytale village. It is probably the one place in California I could live...I'm afraid of eathquakes! But I do like Northern California better than Southern. The 17 mile drive is soooo beautiul.
Thanks for all the info.

Man have you been hit by awards.....

As a native Californian I share your love of the places California has to offer. Wish I could visit all of them yearly. There are still places I haven't been in this state. I guess I better get busy.

Ciao

Congrats on the awards! You made me homesick - born and raised in Half Moon Bay! I love all the places/things you posted about! Don't feel bad about the math - I never got past pre-algebra! I just don't get the stuff.

I enjoyed hearing about you and how wonderful it is to live in California. I hope to visit Carmel one day. Have a great day!

I don't blame you - it must have taken you forever to post that! I have enjoyed California every time I have visited there....but don't admire the cost to live there!

I am a Northern California person. I have mixed feelings about the Golden Gate Bridge. It is awesome, but now when I go over it, I think of a person I know who committed suicide off of the Golden Gate bridge. Sorry if I have sort of ruined an image of the bridge for people, but it did change for me the day that happened. I grew up in the Napa Valley, went to school there and graduated from high school. I also raised my children there. Carmel, that is where we went for our honeymoon. And went on the 17-mile drive. We went there again last year in September for our anniversary and did the 17-mile drive again. Only thing was I was sick the entire trip. Made it hard to enjoy it fully. Seems you like the same things I do about California.

I too love anchovies on my pizza! I have to put it on only half when we order. Pepperoni (or sausage), mushrooms, spinach and anchovies. Yum! Do you make your own crust I'm still looking for the perfect recipe.
Cheers!

Congrats on your awards Cindy! You deserve it. :) I LOVE northern California. I'm originally from Southern California but took many weekend trips there. I miss Carmel and Monterey the most. I remember staying in this sweet bed and breakfast in Monterey called the Jabberwock Inn. Oh what a sweet place that was!

First off...Congrats on your awards! Second, thank you for sharing your love of your state. I'll be visiting San Fransico to attend an Education Conference in January and this post really got me excited. I'm a Southern Girl and I haven't traveled much so this will be a wonderful experience for me. I will have my nice camera and I'll be taking plenty of photos. All I can say is...tell me more...tell me more!

Great awards! Since I love your blog so much, I feel that you deserve many awards. I loved hearing about your love of California. My dear friend Ann and my cousin Phil live in the San Francisco area. Ann lives in Pleasanton? And I believe that Phil lives in San Fran, but I could be wrong. I still haven't made it out there to visit, but I really want to. I've never been to California, so it would surely be a treat.

I enjoyed your tour of northern California. I lived in Stockton for 19 years and we visited that area a lot. I grew up in southern California and I loved that part of the state too. California is a great state.

Hi Cindy, I too live in Northern Cal and agree it is a great state. I also work near SF and posted some pictures of my view in my blog in Oct. We are lucky as we are close to the snow and ocean within a short drive. :)

What a lovely home you have. I really enjoy my visits to your blog. Your great pictures of Northern California brought back many memories. Back in the early seventies my husband was stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, Calif. We were there for 4 years and thought we were on a 4 year vacation. Carmel & Monterey were our favorite week-end get away spots. We lived in Concord and I worked for PT&T in San Francisco. We moved to Vacaville when I had our son. I was closer to the base. I'll always love California.
