I originally wanted toile fabric for my chairs but the more I started looking at fabric I decided on floral. I REALLY wanted this Rachel Ashwell Shabby Chic fabric below but it's $68 a yard plus shipping! I need 3 yards and there is no way I'm paying over $200 to cover dining room chairs! That's almost as much as I paid for the table, chairs and hutch!!! So, I went to a fabric store called Fabrics R Us in San Jose that I hadn't been to in probably 8 years or longer. I remembered they had great deals and boy did I find a great deal. I got this fabric pictured below for $5.00 a yard! I could not believe it! I spent a little over $16 out the door!
I love that it has an old faded look to it. It looks quilted but it's not. I'm still getting used to having a print on the chairs and at times I look at it and it seems too busy to me but maybe that's because I'm used to a solid color in my dining room. I ordered the floral appliques to put at the top center of the chair right where the cane meets the wood. I hope they get here by Saturday so I can put them on before I paint the chairs!
I still plan on making the cute white ruffled covers like in the photo below so I can have a different look. For those that asked if I had a pattern, no I don't, I just plan on making it up as I go. I don't think it will be too hard.
I hope I'm not boring everyone with so many dining room posts but it's the only thing I'm thinking about these days!

I'm so enjoying watching your dining room set come together. I've put your site as one of my favorites and I check it every day or two when I need a quiet break. I have a special friend coming to visit this fall and you have single handedly gotten me redecorating my little townhome. I've needed that push and its fun to excited about my house again.
Thanks
From another Cindy
Cindy, I love your fabric. And hey, with a deal like that, if you get tired of it in a year or so, you can always replace it and not feel too guilty.
Blessings,
Sher
Cindy,
The fabric is perfect! I love the fact that it looks quilted. If you have extra fabric, you can always make a throw pillow or two to put in your living room too.

Cindy, you NEVER bore me! I love reading your posts. I still think you should write a book with lots of your photos in it. I would buy several copies!

I LOVE the fabric you chose! I don't think it's too busy at all since it's muted. I think you will like having the solid white ruffled covers for a change of pace too.

Cindy I agree with cindyf I too have put you in my favorites and check your site so often. How in the world did you paint your chairs and table so fast? What paint will you use for the final coats? Let us know...Your table will look so good in your space and I like the French look to it as well as the caned back chairs. Your home is so romantic. Keep up the good work. I can't wait to see it all done.
Boring us - I don't think so. Keep it coming.

I love the fabric. The fact that it appears to be quilted gives it a little texture.
At first glance it appears the chairs were covered with a vintage quilt.
Love it.

Hi Cindy, I have to agree with the others, your blog is ALWAYS soooo interesting. Each day is a treat to see what you'll come up with. Have you ever thought about having a "flea market/shop" feature?? You are sooo good at finding bargains, so many people love your style, and you could make $ doing what you love to do anyway? K

Ciao
Glenda
I love the print, I don't think it is too busy at all. It is beautiful, just like everything you do:>)
I like that fabric better than the RA one! (and I love RA) I hope I can come across a deal like that - I'm looking for fabric to recover the glider rocker I had to put back in the living room. Should be interesting being as I don't sew an all!
Not at all bored with the dining room pictures - I love seeing how things are transforming!

I love your decorating techniques! I want to redo my whole house. I especially love your kitchen. I have a 70's kitchen that is boring and dark. I want to do something to it, but I'm afraid I do not know where to start!
ginny

Love the mirror collection too! :)
Look at all those comments! No, we are not tired of your dinning room,
you are an inpiration. Don't you you just love a bargain that looks expensive.
I personally think the fabric you chose is even more fab than the one you wanted. Kind of a more "lived in look". This is going to be a killer set when you are finished for sure.
STUNNING STUNNING!!! Cindy you must be so thrilled with how they have turned out!! Big pat on the back youve done an awesome job!!
Mandii
I love the fabric! My mom turned me on to your blog, and I can't believe what you have done with a basic apartment! Way to go!
Suzanne
You're not boring me. I love your apartment! It's so pretty. I'm interested in seeing how you paint your chairs. I like the floral fabric.
Boy, do you have a great eye for details!
So pretty, Cindy! That was a great find & I love getting good deals on fabric too. That whole dining set really looks great now.
Rhoda
Your dining room is looking fantastic! What a great buy on the fabric for the dining room chairs! And you did a beautiful job recovering them too! Can't wait to see the little ruffle part too. Can you do step by step instructions? LOL! That's not asking too much is it?! LOL!
Barbara
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!! I love how it all came together, you have so inspired me, I purchased 2 old chairs at goodwill for $3 a piece, I have taken a before picture and when I get them covered and painted I am going to post both photo's, I am covering them I think with an old tablecloth for the cushions, I LOVE working with old linens....thanks for the inspiration you always keep putting out there for all of us!! Diane at www.nelliesnest.blogspot.com
I'm loving the chairs! The fabric reminds me just a little of the pillow you like from Pierre Dieux. (spelling?) Anyway, looking good!
Your dining room chairs look wonderful! It is amazing how you can completely change the look of furniture with paint and fabric - love watching the transformation!
I love the floral fabric. Not too busy at all. And can't wait to see the chair covers when you finish them. I've always wanted to do something similar but as I'm not the greatest at sewing, I always put off those projects.
i'm the 81st comment and i looooooooove it! love it! LOVE IT! yay for 81 comments... blessings!
I love the chairs with the ruffle on them. I found some chairs like the ones in the photo at a thrift store that were pink! For $4.00 each!! I then painted them black added new fabric to the seats and then for a change of pace I made little white skirts for them and loved them. Then I sold them because I was moving and wanted something new...that was a mistake. I loved them. You can see them on my website. www.theystylesisters.net under trash to treasure at the bottom of the page.
Love your blog!
Karin
love the fabric!
fabulous deal! and I love the slipcover idea as well.
smiles,
Sandy
Love these chairs! You scored a great deal!
I have the same fabric on my living room sofa, purchases new from Haverty's 4-5 years ago, only it is a buttercream background with the same beautiful roses in a burgandy red. I love the blue and white.
