A Day in Santa Cruz

Pin It Now!

Last Saturday was the annual "Woodies on the Wharf" in Santa Cruz, California.  I live close by so I've gone to this a couple of times in the past.  Santa Cruz is the perfect spot for this car show!  Santa Cruz and Woodies are the perfect pair...Woodies were big with the surfers in the 50s and 60s and Santa Cruz is a big surfing town!

"My Guy" and I met my dad, my brother & his girlfriend, and my nephew & his girlfriend there.

These cars are huge collector items now. There were a couple of fully restored ones for sale there for $100,000!

After our first walk around the show, My Guy and I decided to stop in and get one of these...

It was so good we each had another one!   hiccup

I know I may have lost some of you with this cars and cocktails post so here are some beautiful homes with ocean views!

This one above overlooks Santa Cruz

I love this home...except for one thing....
I hate palm trees! I know it's a big California thing but I think they are ugly!

This is a beautiful inn across the street from the ocean.  I went in here once and took photos for my blog and then realized later that I didn't have the memory card in my camera! If I would have had my reading glasses on I would have seen a message popping up on the camera screen but I didn't! Oh well! Trust me, it was beautiful!

There are lots of these beautiful old ocean-front homes!

This one below is in the middle of major remodeling, it is gutted on the inside...

As we walked back to the car we watched a surf lesson going on but there weren't many waves...

Here is the view from where we parked the car looking back towards the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. I grew up going to this amuzement park and have so many fond memories of warm summer days riding the ferris wheel and the roller coaster!

I hope you enjoyed your visit to Santa Cruz!

My grandfather lived just outside of Santa Cruz for a good portion while I was growing up so we would visit often. Such a cute town.

Awesome pictures! I love the old woodies and beautiful homes. They sure don't make them like they used to. When I was growing up, almost every birthday party I attended was held there at the Boardwalk...such wonderful memories.

I thought that tall "thing" was a light pole! Next picture--NOT! That is about the ugliest tree I've ever seen! ♥♫

Wonderful pictures. The 'woodies' remind me of the Beach Boys :-) Those homes are gorgeous, especially the first one, but why do they have such an ugly looking 'stick with feathers on the top' in the yard anyway? I don't get the purpose of that palm tree do you?

Oh what a wonderful post!! I grew up in Sunnyvale, CA and spent many a summer day at the beach, on the boardwalk and seeing it all brings back so mnay memories. There used to be a big building on the boardwalk and they used to have dances every Sat. night in the summer. We'd load up a car and drive over for the dances. It was called the Coconut Grove. Dating myself...I grew up in the 60's and remember the woodies and surfers. Even tried my hand at surfing ONCE...NOT!!! Thank you for the warm memories!!!

Oh my.... I just love these old cars. I watch the Jackson Barrett auctions whenever they are on. There is nothing more beautiful than restored history be it a car or a beautiful old home !!
Great Post.....

Beautiful homes and the woodies are fabulous. I do agree with the Marilyn, I thought the same thing. It was a lamp post that turned out to be a Palm tree.

Santa Cruz is one of my favorite places, and one that we don't visit often enough considering how close we live. You reminded to try to make it there this summer. BTW- I hate palm trees too and I'm born & raised in Cali!!

Love visiting Santa Cruz (though not a fan of winding 17!). Those homes (and cars!) are gorgeous. Have you been to Gayle's in Capitola? Mmmm...delicious breakfast food! (as well as baked goods).

Hey, I LOVED your post of the "woodies". I grew up in the 59's and even tho I was in Atlanta there were many "woodies" around. I also loved all the old T"Birds. I did a lot miles in a bird.
While I happen to like palms, that WAS one ugly specimen. The home are awesome. I love the Victorian homes and I suspect you have a fondness for those.
Have a great 4th!! Ginger

Loved my visit, I felt like I was watching a Beach Blanket or Beach Blanket Bingo movie. Those cars are awesome, and I so remember them from the 60's in all the Beach movies. Sounds like you had a good weekend. Those homes are gorgeous. Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures.

This brings back a lot of memories. I lived in Gilroy in the 80's for 7 years. Santa Cruz was always a fun place to visit.

That was so wonderful. Just discovered your blog and so happy to have done so.
The old Woodies have me humming Beach Boy songs and thinking of summers past.

Just have to say I love woodies. They go hand in hand with beach life. Wish I had one last week while at the beach.
Hope your fourth of July is fabulous.

Beautiful homes- that one palm tree in the middle of the one house seems so out of place though!

Dearest Cindy,

Funny to be back on the Wharf in Santa Cruz... Did you see my footsteps all over? We used to work at the Pescadero Campbell plant, as consultants. Always stayed in Santa Cruz.

Lots of love,

Mariette

I used to live in SC and the house with the palm tree used to have three or so, but after a storm, the tops were gone! I guess they've uprooted them since then (about 3 years ago). Love the woodies!
