My life now

Pin It Now!

I know some of you only come here for decorating inspiration and if so you may not want to read any further. My blog has never really been just about decorating...I've tried to add a little more personal touch to it but I know this drives some people crazy! Please don't leave me grumpy comments about what I should or shouldn't blog about...

Thank you all so much for the feedback on possibly selling my hutch. I never expected that kind of response!  I'm amazed at how insightful some of you are.  Many of you noticed that I seem to be changing a lot lately so I want to explain what happens to me every ten years...I panic when I'm about to turn into the next decade of my life.  It started when I turned 30...I felt like I was getting old so I went bungee jumping!

Before I was about to turn 40 I lost a lot of weight and felt good about myself but I woke up that morning crying.  That sounds so foolish now...40 seems so young to me now that I'm about to turn THE BIG 5-0

So now that I'm about to turn 50 next month (which I can't believe) I see myself going through much of the same feelings.  I've lost weight (25 lbs so far), cut my hair, went blonder, joined online dating sites and I know it all has to do with that stupid number!   I don't look at this as something negative though...quite the opposite. It feels good to reinvent myself a little bit once in awhile! I actually feel so much better than I did a couple months ago which is a great thing...especially when you are about to turn 50!
The dating thing has been very interesting. I'm just enjoying the process this time. I've met some nice guys... five in person so far. Of those five, there was only one that I really wanted to see again.  (it's the guy on the white horse for those of you who follow me on Facebook). As we were leaving the place where we met, he told me he would love to see me again which made me very happy. We exchanged a couple emails before he left on a business trip. Then I NEVER HEARD FROM HIM AGAIN! ha...men! I'll never understand them! I can tell he's been on the online dating site so I know he's okay. Oh well....on to the next!

So bear with me as I turn 50 and don't be surprised if you see me jumping out of an airplane (with a parachute of course)!

I can't believe you are almost 50! You are beautiful...and youthful. You may enjoy my post today...it is about finding beauty in every stage of life(every age) through the view of roses.

Cindy, I think it is good to make posetive changes in your life at any age and it sounds as if you are going onward and upward. I always say as long as you keep moving forward it is a good thing. I loved my forties, my fifties were the decade of feeling my age and that was not always a good thing but you are losing weight and getting healthier so that is a good thing. If you don't grow and change you will become stagnant and that is not a good thing. I say,"YOU go GIRL!!" Can't wait to see where you wind up!! Hugs Kathysue

PS You look amazing and love, the new hair cut. I kind of miss the red, it was so pretty!!!

Debbiedoos said...

Well you certainly look gorgeous and happy right now! I say go with the flow...enjoy what you are doing..you sound like you have a good attitude and enjoy life just the same, so if you want to jump out of a plane, make sure the parachute works first. I hope I get some guts as a I get older...I used to have the guts for anything risky...now that I am older I panic with fear...which is sad because I hold back on many things I should be doing. Well I have two sons that make up for it, so I guess it's all good:) And yes post what you want on your blog...I do and have received weird comments a here and there about my content..but I take ownership in it, if they don't like it, bug off go to the next there are million other blogs out here. Have a great day CIndy!

I feel the same way! I normally do it every 5 years. It makes you feel so good to reinvent yourself. It is like decorating... sometimes you want little knick knacks everywhere, and sometimes you want a more minimalist look. You do what makes you feel good about yourself. And if anyone complains you are sharing personal stuff and they just want decorating, well they can just go take a long walk off a short bridge.... :0)

I am so happy for you Cindy. Change is good. I'm a tough cookie though...I tend to stay in my comfort zone and not change too much. You have inspired me from the beginning with your blog and your decorating and now you are doing it again. I feel many changes coming on in my near future. I'm only a few short years behind you in age. Thank you so much for being an inspiration to us all. You are a beautiful person inside and out.

Ahhhh.... That magic number 50. By the time I turned 50 I really didn't even think of my age in numbers. I am about to be 59 in October & I just say I am on the business side of 60!! LOL!!
I find there are some things I am too old for & some things that I am still too young for.....
Just enjoy & as for the dude on the horse..... Don't look so high up on the pedistal!!

Real is good. Change is fresh. Change is being alive.

I used to run a tea room and, one day, I had a very interesting conversation with a lone gentleman that had come in. I was in my twenties, then, and we were discussing how we liked every age of a person - how they're all just different. I, then, confessed that I thought that the best times were before 30 and after 60. (Now, I know that people in their 30s aren't boring, they're just really desperately busy establishing their lives.=]) Well, this man protested and said that there was nothing more beautiful than a 50 yr old woman. He said that they are in their absolute prime of life. They know who they are and are powerfully beautiful. I started thinking about it and I totally can see what he means. Happy "turning 50 time of your life"!

Love, Katy Noelle

You look just great! I love your haircut and the color...I must consider a style like yours the next time I sit in my stylist's chair! I am going to be 69 next month! I have to say that when I turned 40, I didn't think it could be greater, but when I turned 50 ... it was. And when I turned 60 ... even better! Now, just a little over a year from turning 70? Glad to be here!!!! Single and alive! Bravo to you!!!

Good on you, you look much younger and at the end of the day age is just a number! You can make changes any time you like. I forget sometimes what age I am and then I have to remember what year I was born in :)Never mind the men thing, I thought I'd never find a nice man and low and behold I found one! Good things come to those who wait! :)

I am turning 58 in October, and it scares the bejebbers out of me!!! But I try and stay young at heart.....I don't think I'm that old, except when I bend down in a shop and then try to get up like I used to....but you look great, have a great attitude....and blog about whatever you want, I find that most people that are "rude" on a blog, don't even have one themselves...so to heck with them, I have had a few weirdo's I just "delete"...gives me great pleasure...lol!!! Only other thing I can say is "keep that hutch"...it is beautiful, if not I'll send you my address...haha!!!
Well.....50 isn't so bad, I spent mine on Mackinaw Island....it was such an adventure I didn't even think about being 50....I should blog about it sometime...too funny.....have a nice week!!!

It shows more individuality and your personality shines. You're a magnificent decorator, but I like to see more of "you." Don't you worry. Turning 50 is great. Better than 30 or 40. I'm now 53, and happier than I've ever been. So come join us over 50 gals and we'll have a ball! Men or no!

Oh Cindy I am so understanding you! That was me two years ago. BUT.... I must say that my son turning 30 this year was a wee bit more shocking to me than I turning 50 - go figure. My sister is 10 years older than I and her daughter is 10 years younger. So for our 40 - 50 - 60 Birthday's we planned a girls weekend going to San Fran and Carmel for spa time and site seeing. My son got married a few months before I turned 50, so that was a big year for me. I too cut my hair, got on an exercise program that I'm still on and kept the 30 pounds off and now I am totally updating our house - going from traditional to contemporary style, maybe it's the younger vibe I get being in that style of decorating. Good Luck to you and your venture in turning 50.

Your blog - blog about what you want to. It is amazing there are people out there that think us bloggers should jump thru their hoops. If someone does not like what someone posts about, they have the freedom to move on. There - I just had to say that! :-D
I have a saying on my fridge "Live you life and forget your age".
As far as the one that did not contact you again - Maybe there was something about him that you did not want to know about anyway.:D
Congratulations on the weight loss and I like your hair.

You are beautiful on the inside and the outside:) I sure wish I could lose 25lbs!

30 really freaked me out but for some reason, 40 didn't bother me at all. Maybe because I was too busy to even notice it at that time!

As for the dating thing, at leat you're getting out there and meeting people! If something good comes along then that would be wonderful but in the meantime just enjoy:)

I cannot believe you are almost 50! You look fabulous! The only birthday that bothered me was my 30th. I barely noticed turning 40 and I love the current stage/age of my life.

As for what you post on your blog, that is YOUR choice. You are evolving and your blog is a part of you therefore it will evolve also. If some of your readers do not like it, well my goodness they can just skip reading that particular post and move on.

Just enjoy your life Cindy and live it to the fullest!

Cindy, What's happening to you isn't anything unusual...it happens to all us women as we age. (especially hitting the 'new decade' mark). But, you seem to be in a great place in so many ways & you've got the right attitude. Just wanted to tell you that my 50's were the happiest, sexiest, most exciting years of my life. (other than when I was raising my 2 sons). I look back now and remember how great I looked & felt and wish I could do it all over again! Turning 60 is the pits! Just enjoy your life now & know how very fortunate you are &how many friends you have. You're going to be great & my advice is to enjoy that birthday coming up & embrace your beauty...both inside & out. HUGS....

Turning 50 really isn't so bad Cindy. I turned 60 this year and it's not so bad. In fact, I found that in my late fifties I became more accepting of who I am and my looks. I stopped worrying about my imperfections and started enjoying life.
I'm glad that I'm not in the dating scene. I've been married for 36 years.
You are a beautiful woman and I think you should enjoy.

what my friend did. She lost her hubby right at her 60th b'day so she wanted to do something wild &

A friend of mine who has been single for 20 years, and NOT looking, just happened upon someone recently who was divorced 8 years ago. She's a hair dresser and was doing his mothers hair, so you just never know where a relationship will come from!

I wish you a wonderful Birthday, Cindy!

And I agree, getting older can be more than a little scary, no matter how good you look!

Happy 50 to you and to your 'new life.' When I turned 50 over 10 years ago I panicked a little too but I'll tell you in all honesty, it was one of the best decades of my life. I became a granddmother and realized I had a chance to grow up with my grands... if indeed I wanted to grow up at all..lol.
Happy upcoming spectacular birthday.

Anyway, I understand the big 5-0 thing. I'm now 57 so I'm inching towards the 6-0 age. Yuck! But if you're healthy and look the best you can, age isn't such an issue any more.

I thought of the recent preview I saw for Julia Roberts' new movie that is coming out soon called "Eat. Pray. Love." It sounds like a fun movie for this point in your life.

Happy upcoming birthday and btw, I love your new hairstyle.

Cindy, you are a lovely lady and don't look your age at all! When I turned 40 three years ago, I really had a hard time believing that I was at that age in my life. How did time go by so fast? But I can tell you that age really is a number. I feel like I'm still in my 20's. I have friends of ALL ages, many of whom are in their 20's. I am trying to lose weight and take better care of myself. And it's women like you who inspire me and encourage me to embrace all aspects of my life and not be afraid of getting older. My mom is 67 and she has the figure and attitude of a 25 year old and does not look near her age. She inspires me a great deal too. Congratulations on looking so great and having such a wonderfully positive attitude. Have fun with your online dating. I did that for a couple of years and had fun and met a lot of interesting guys too and lo and behold, finally found the ONE! Cindy, I know with all your followers you can't possibly remember everyone but you are the one that started me blogging 3 years ago after I found you on RMS. So I have been a faithful reader all these years.

Let me say this about turning 50....I will be 59 in Sept. and this has been my best decade yet! I went through an ugly divorce in 1996 but did not date. I met my now husband when I turned 50 (he was 38) and we will be married 7 years in October! All my grandchildren have been born this decade and I have another one due in about 4 weeks so our lives are full. I know that "60" is looming for me and I'm a little scared of that but it's just a number.

Keep on "keeping on" and the right man will turn up when it's the right time.

Happy "almost" 50!

My first thought was you look very young for your age. I have never been one for numbers determining how I SHOULD feel. I know we can say all the nice things to make you feel good about yourself but in the end it is you who has to believe all of these wonderful things for it to work. I wish you a wonderful birthday to be. I would say that I would jump with you but, I don't think I could do that. Be proud of yourself for all that you have done to get you to where you are now. As for the dating thing, be picky, and enjoy yourself, do not take it personal, know that you are a beautiful woman and it is all for fun.

Hi Cindy, my motto is you're only as old as you want to be! Firstly you can write about whatever you want on your blog..I like to know the person behind the decorating. Secondly I can TOTAALLY relate to your post today. I was ok up till 49 but when that big 5.0. came round I actually heard alarm bells ringing and wanted everything I had postphoned doing in my home.. done! There's just something about that f word that scared the crap out of me! I was a little miserable for a while. Then it hit me, you're only as old as you want to be, you can be depressed about it or just go on living life to the fullest. After all it's only a number. I think it's not the fact that I'm 50 now, it's more that I still have so much I'd like to do in my life..I still have dreams to fulfill and inside I really feel like I should only be in my 30's. Anyhow, I'm sure you will be fine and besides, you look no where near 50, you look great! I truly thank the Lord to be where I am and to have reached 50. I don't worry about the number anymore. Just stay happy and you will be forever young! take care, Maryann

She looks great! Whenever she comes in, I feel so blessed to know her.
Moral here? Live life to the fullest!!! no matter what age, or what situation you are in.
Hugs to you honey.

Cindy - You look beautiful! Reading your post today I have to say that I sure can relate except for the dating part because I am married. I am turning 50 in 2 days! I've had a lot of ups and downs about the big 5-0 but am trying to embrace it. My mom's life was cut so short by cancer and she taught me to celebrate each and every age and live life to the fullest. But, your post today was like reading my own feelings. I'm off tomorrow to change my hairdo before the big day. You are a beautiful and talented woman and have lots to offer. Do what makes you happy! I enjoy reading your post about your decorating, dating or whatever it may be.

Hi, Beautiful picture of you and post. You have a wonderful attitude. I think for myself at 49 its time that I want to live for myself and do what makes me happy In my 40s I always lost sight of actually taking care of myself and wanting to please everyone now I feel I am comming into a stage of my life where I want to change priorities. My best to you sincerely, Jonny

OMG Cindy, I love your hair color. It is really flattering on you. Congrats on the weight loss, wish I could lose some weight. You are so adorable, I would think any guy would want to date you.
I am getting ready to turn 65 in a couple of weeks and I can't believe it. Where have all the years gone? Enjoy life as much as you can, it goes by way too fast.

Hi Cindy,
I think you and I are about the only two single blogging ladies out there, at least judging by what I've seen..... And I've wondered why you haven't gotten out there and dated a bit. I've been single a year and recently met a wonderful man online. My kids love him, I love him, and life is GOOD. With the kids basically out and on their own, dating at this stage of life works well, doesn't it? It might take a while, but you'll find someone to celebrate the new decade with, I just know it. I'm 54 and don't feel a day over 29. (Except when I look in the mirror!) LOL

momma-o-minnie said...

Fifty isn't that bad. I think it is what you make it. It was tougher to have my husband leave me with all my kids than it was to turn 50.
It's just another day.
You look stunning and I know that you will not be lonely, have a life that is boring, nor will you find a time when you cannot keep yourself busy. You are an active woman with an active, creative mind.

Embrace 50. You've got a lot to give.

Sherry @ No Minimalist Here said...

Cindy, My mom once told me told me being in her 50's was the best years of her life. I thought this was crazy at the age of 30. Now that I am 56 I understand completely what she meant. Enjoy this phase of your life and only make changes that make you happy. Trust me, The 50's are pretty darn good!
Hugs, Sherry

Let me welcome you to the world of 50! Not so bad and my 50th b-day last Feb. was one of the best b-days I ever had. Enjoy and try not to think of getting old.

Terry @ La Bella Vie said...

Hi have never met you before but found you through another blog that lead to another blog then to you, and by the way you have a lovely blog!
Let me say, I am 53 and I love who I am! Don't get me wrong getting older is getting older but if you didn't have your birthday, think of the alternative...you'd be dead so cherish each BD!
Now the dating thing, when I finally said I wasn't going to go date, that was when I met my husband at a mutual friends wedding!
So just enjoy the entire process of life, don't force things to be what they aren't...
Hugs,
Terry

I think what you need for your 50th is a trip to your favorite place and I beleive in one of your blogs you mentioned that was Martha's Vineyard. Getting away from it all might be just what you need to get things into perspective. When I turned 50, 10 years ago, that is what I did and I came back with a whole new view on turning 50. Took some of my girlie friends with me and we had the best time of our lives. We left kids and hubby's home (those of us who were married) and we felt like teenagers again. Turning 50 should be a memory making time.

Hey, Cindy, I haven't been by to leave a comment in awhile, so this seems like a good place to jump in.

I started blogging right after I turned 50, three years ago, so that's been such a positive for me, that I think 50 is pretty fabulous after all! Never dreaming that I would reinvent myself this much after turning 50, it's been a pleasant surprise.

And, I met my sweet hubby online 6 years ago and we've been married 5, so you never know what will happen with all of that. I SO remember the online dating thing. I did it for about 6 mos. & while it was fun at first, it began to get old after awhile. I was happy to get out of it & settle down again. In the meantime, enjoy yourself!

Cindy, those milestone numbers are good opportunities to take a long look at our lives and reevaluate where we are, who we are, and where we want to go from here. I've enjoyed your blog in its stages of leading us through your lovely home designing skills, but I've also enjoyed it as you've recounted your adventures in indulging in trips and outings, and your own personal makeover, including your reaching out for a more significant person in your life. You've been very open with sharing your experiences, good and bad, and have gathered a large and devoted fan base. Maybe some people want to keep you as they first learned to love you, but you can't let their interpretation of you hold you back from being the beautiful, well-rounded person you are, or the beautiful, well-rounded person you will be in the future. Best luck in all your endeavors, and welcome to the best decade, so far!

Good luck with the dating. Men can be so bizarre - whether you're dating them or married to them. Hang in there and happy birthday.

About the other stuff, I get if! We only have one, very short life. It's best that life's enjoyed doing what we enjoy, not trying to please others.

I love decorating too, but really enjoy hearing more personal things from people too. The reason I read a blog is because I like the character of the person behind it. Happy week, happy changes... a good thing!

99 comments. I can't believe it. You are such a popular blogger. I just wanted you to know I can relate to this post. Instead of me turning 50 though, my daughter turns 50 in October. She is single also. I know that makes it even harder. I remember when I turned 30 about 100 years ago, I hated it. 40 didn't bother me at all, 50 didn't bother me, but I hated 60. I thought well, looks like every 30 years will bother me so I figured the next time would be 90. I was wrong. 70 was worse than 60. Now I'm heading towards 80. I think I will just quit having birthdays. No, can't do that. Then I would be dead. Oh well, that's life.
Happy birthday to you. Hope I haven't depressed you too much. LOL

I had no idea this was an "age" thing, but I'm so glad I read some of the comments because I'll be 50 in September too and it sure explains a lot! {I had forgotten it was right around the corner:)} I'm feeling kind of restless and kind of an urgency to declutter and get this house in order all at once ~ Goodness, our hormones sure wreak havoc on us during different life stages, don't they? :)

So many comment,s I'm not even sure you'll get to mine.
I'm a rather new reader, but have enjoyed your taes of home decor, travel and changes in your life.

For one, change can be a good thing, as you've said yourself.
I think anything you do, if it feels right at the time you decide to do it, then that's ok.
Sometimes we change and grow and what once suited us no longer does, a few years down the line. Other times there will be decisions we'd do over and over.

You seem to be doing great and you sure as hell surprised me when you revealed your age!

I don't know if you've ever been to Europe, but if you're looking for the ultimate "change", try comparing what you're used to with what you see in Italy (where I'm from). You're sure in for a cultre shock there... and then your changes won't seem so odd!
: )

Great post! Thank you for posting this. Those milestones can be scary can't they! I'm approaching my 50th too, and in that paring down mode as well...I think someone said it's a 50 thing, LOL. For me 25 was my crisis year! But I made it through that, 30, and 40, and since they say 50 is the new 30, I'm just not going to worry about that one. You shouldn't either. You are a beautiful and talented woman and I'm sure the best is yet to come. Surround yourself with all that makes you happy....and if you want to try parachuting from a plane...do it! That's how I got through my 25 crisis...scariest fun I ever had! ~Sheilla

Hey Cindy,

I left a message yesterday, but it doesn't appear to be showing up. NOt sure why, but I wanted to tell you that I think you look GREAT!! I LOVE your positive attitude toward change, and I think it's wonderful that you've entered into the very scary world of dating! Which site are you using?

I also wanted to add that anyone who has been posting negative comments to you because they don't like you talking about something other than decorating should just click, "next blog!" It's YOUR blog, and you are entitled to write about whatever pleases YOU! Those who don't like it should keep their negativity to themselves and just read another blog that day. NO biggie, right?

I LOVE your blog because YOU write it....not just about decorating, but you learn about a person through their blog. I like you as person and therefore I enjoy your blog.

Anyway, I was wondering if you ever received my email a couple of weeks ago about painting on metal? I have a small brownish colored birdcage that I want to paint white, but I don't know if I have to use something other than the white paint first or not. Would you recommend using a paint brush or spray painting it? Thanks, Cindy!!

Well, I have to admit that my reasons for following your blog are all about "My Romantic Home", not "My romantic personal life". It certainly is your blog and you are entitled to blog as you wish but I have been debating whether to continue following. People's lives and priorities do change, as yours seems to have. I'm assuming that many followers are simply not interested in much of what you've shared in the past few months, thus your plea not to have "rude" comments left. I don't mean to be rude, but can't help but feel I am just as entitled to my opinion and find it interesting that you would define this difference as rude. Hmmm. I do wish you luck with your personal pursuits and have very much enjoyed your Romantic Home.
