Fun on Saturday!

Pin It Now!

My friend Nelson and I went to Santa Cruz on Saturday to hit the flea market and antique stores.  The weather was perfect as we headed over the hill towards the ocean in Nelson's convertible. It's only about a 30 minute drive from my home.  I found these dishes at an antique store at the end of the day.  The lace runner ($3) was found at a garage sale that we just happened upon.

I saw this chintz candy/nut dish in a glass cabinet but I knew it was out of my budget but I asked the price any way.  It was $35 but I was able to get it for $30 thanks to Nelson who is so good at haggling.  It has a very small chip on the edge otherwise this would have been a lot more expensive.  It's the same pattern (Du Barry) as the cup and saucer my mom gave me.  This will be added to my small but growing chintz collection
I found these plates at the end of the day and I couldn't be happier!  The pink plate above and the blue plate below were $7.00 minus 10% discount.    These will go in my bedroom on the wall.  The blue one didn't photograph very well but it's beautiful!  I love these hand-painted plates!  They had more and now I wish I would have bought them too!
I found another mirror (only $5) to add to the stairway.  This will be painted white soon.  I also found this silver tray or maybe it's a plate charger for $4.  Both of these came from the flea market.  I had never been to this flea market before.  It's held every weekend and I have a feeling I'm going to be going back soon!
Two rolls of ribbon, 40 yards each for $3 and an old silver plated sugar scuttle also $3
I took a vacation day today so I could finish up the table and chairs.  I painted them yesterday so I hope I can sand them and distress them today!

You made a haul. What beautiful things. Again - it's so wonderful when you can be focused. I'm kind of all over the place(but getting better). As a consequence my house is eclectic but I love it that way, too. Diane

Hi Cindy! Wow I really really need to start going to flea markets! I too am supposed to be painting but took a quick break to see what you had posted - it was worth the stop as usual! I am about to paint my black small desk white to go in my new battenburg/rose theme sewing room which was inspired by you and a beautiful rose pitcher my mother gave me a while back! Enjoy your day off painting - Jeannette

I would have grabbed those plates up too. Beautiful.

I never get plates, bowls or whatever with chips on them but I see you do often. You now have me thinking about it. You get a better deal and if it's something that will just be for display then why not. I was always of the mind set that one should only get items in great condition.

Hugs,
Joanne

Hi Cindy,
Me again, I'm sure if you got the faux fireplace you would find somewhere to put it, I seem to always find somewhere new for it to go. If we lived closer I'd have my husband make one for you, he made mine for me, although knowing you, you could make your own! I do the same thing, I go on the blogs for motivation, but I never end up getting anything done, except looking at blogs. LOL
