Tablescapes and My Video Experience

Pin It Now!

Well, I got the word late Friday that I had to do a videotape this past weekend and Fed Ex it to HGTV today! (if you don't know what I'm talking about read last Wed. & Thurs. post if you haven't) So, needless to say, I didn't get much done on Lauren's dresser but I did start it!
I had to take a video tape of me walking around my apartment showing them different things. I decided to set the dining room table and make it look pretty. I found this beautiful vintage lace table square at the flea market on Saturday for only $10.
I found the old picture frame at the thrift store last week for only $2.99. I put it under my tiered dish and put shells all around. I even added starfish on top of the soup bowls (Lauren thought that part of it was a little weird.) I liked it though.
I love the look of the elegance of the crystal and lace mixed with the earthiness of the shells.
Here's a close up of the table cloth! I had purchased other things from this vendor in the past and always seek her out because she has such great prices.

I like the way the table turned out but I wasn't pleased with my video tape at all. I hated the way I looked on camera! Boy the camera adds like 50 lbs! Even my apartment didn't video tape well. It's probably good I wasn't thrilled with it...I won't be disappointed if they decide not to use me. I would back out of it if I could but when I give someone my word, my commitment...I stick to it!

The table looks lovely, and I like the shells on the bowls. I will keep my fingers crossed that they will like your video tape, and decide to have your home on the show. At least you have it out of the way and can relax now. Good luck!

The table looks just lovely and I bet the video tape is better than you think!

Hi Cindy :)

I know how you feel sweetie. I had the same moment, but I'm sure it wasn't as bad as all that. How did you do on the question part? I never got to it because I drew a blank and couldn't think of anything to say LOL I'm sure you'll be picked :)

The table looks incredible! You did a great job on it and I love that touch with the frame. It really makes a wonderful statement :)

You can do it!

rue

The table looks beautiful, Cindy! I love the lace tablecloth you picked up and the starfish on the soup bowls is the perfect finishing touch - it all looks so elegant! I'm sure, like most of us, you are your own worst critic. I'll bet your apartment - and YOU - looked stunning on the videotape!..Donna

That tablecloth is so pretty. Don't you love it when you know certain people have great prices. There's a flea market about 2 hours away from me that I love to go to because the prices are awesome. I always find great stuff there.

As always, your home is beautiful! I have no doubt they will choose you, so get over all your insecurity! I'll be looking for you on HGTV, and I can say "I knew her when" - sort of.

~Cindy the table looks amazing. I love the starfish on the bowls. Never would have thought of that myself!! :) So thanks for sharing. I am so sure you did a fantastic job on your video and I am sure you looked wonderful. I always remind myself, we are our own worst critics.
~We have a different HGTV up here in Canada so I doubt I will get to see it. :(

I love love love it... of course I live by the ocean... I can see myself sitting at that table having lunch.

Your table is really beautiful. Do you know what show this video would be on if they used it? I know that decorating cents used to do it. I hope they do that again where they feature homeowners creativity. Let us know so we can watch.

This looks awesome. Angela over at Cottage Magpie did such a wonderful writeup on your site.

Everything looks just so beautiful!!!

Anonymous: The video will only be seen by the Producer and one other person for a new HGTV TV show called Rate My Space. They will decide after seeing the video if my home(apt.) will be featured as an inspiration to makeover someone elses. My armoire is the inspiration piece they are interested in but other parts of my home may be shown as well.

I love you home and your blog! I found your blog from Rue's and recognized your home from RMS- I adored it there too! I am sure your video and the way you presented yourself is much much better than you think. I think we are all very critical of ourselves. I enjoy looking through your pictures and finding inspiration here. I live in an apartment too and have been trying to incorporate my cottage/vintage style into this "plain box" and make it work. You have shown me that it can be done- and expertly so! I still need a lot of help though!! Thanks!!

Cindy,
Everything looks great on the table.
I would feel the same way about the hole thing.
But as you said you committed to it and you stick to your word. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy when it comes to how we feel about something.
You can only be positive about it now. They have their way of seeing through all the things you were critical of. They know what their looking for and you just never know.
Good Luck

Glenda

I think the shells on the bowls is a great touch. It would be good if a clam or seafood chowder were to be served in the bowls! You can try it out on me if you would like to. Just tell me when to be there. I like your home and tablescape no matter what HGTV might have to say. ~Adrienne~

Your tablescape is so pretty to look at. I think the starfish give a nice dimension to the display. Don't stop believing in yourself. You have a real talent for finding beautiful things inexpensively, fixing up old things beautifully and creating very inviting displays in your home. I bet that came through on your video. I think we women are always so hard on ourselves! Good luck with HGTV!

Oh I bet they will use you for sure! You have such an amazing house- I don't know who else they could possibly choose! I also LOVE your flickr collage below. What program did you use to make the collage? Adobe?

You are probably being hard on yourself -- I'm sure you and your apartment looked wonderful on the video!

I'm so sorry your apartment didn't video tape, well. I'm hoping they will still be able to see what a fabulous job you've done with your decorating.

I love the table. ITA about the crystal, lace, and shells. I love the contrast. It's like wearing denim and lace.

Know what you mean about the camera adding lbs. I did an event this weekend and they wanted to tape me with my art and I just had to refuse (silly me) should have done it. Oh well.
Hope you have a fabulous day.

Great job Cindy... pat yourself on the back... most of us would not be confident enough to go on camera and talk. That was a lot of work and a major personal accomplishment. WAY TO GO !!!

Cindy that is so exciting. I'm sure you did fine. I hope you get picked because you deserve it.

Well First of all, your Apartment is Gorgeous and so are you. I totally understand the 50lbs comment, I absolutely hate to see myself on camera or in photos. Maybe that is why actors and tv people are always so thin. We are always most critcal of ourselves, believe me all they have to do is look at this blog and see what you do and your style. Your apartment is gorgeous! I really think you need your own HGTV show! Cant wait to hear what happens.. Jamie

Love your tablescape. And I agree with you, the earthiness and feminine lace touches are so different yet you blended them perfectly. And despite your daughter not liking the starfish on the soup bowls, I think it was a unexpected yet fun touch. :)

your so funny about the camera putting on extra pounds! I do agree! I recently just met an online pen pal in person, I told her now remember a person looks 30 pounds heavier in person than they look on computer so just remember im really 30 lbs thinner than I look. :P

Hi Cindy- I too was contacted by RMS and made a tape. It was off the cuff casual and not really well done at all. What will be will be. Didn't have a lot of time to fiddle with it! I'm listed on RMS as Ladyinthehills, but am in the process of starting a blog here. I have loved your rooms since I saw them on that site. You do have a remarkable talent. Nancy
