Small

Pin It Now!

Last night when I was watching American Idol, I realized I didn't have anything prepared for my blog today. There are times when I feel like I have nothing to share but I still feel the need to post every day. I feel like if you all come to visit here I should at least have something for you! I feel like I've showed you just about everything I have, except for Lauren's room and the bathrooms which all are still not finished. Lauren's room has been 3 different color themes since we moved here 4 years ago. Anyway...I realized that maybe I haven't posted a photo (at least for awhile) of my apartment from this view. This is standing on the back step of my patio. You can really see how small my place is in this photo. There are some areas that are cut off of the living room...the armoire (with the TV) is on the left and the sofa is on the right. When you come in the front door (which is straight ahead) you can either go into the kitchen or the very tiny bathroom. My apartment is less than 1000 square feet....teeny tiny but cozy.

Wouldn't hard-wood floors look great in here? My landlord has been adding wood laminate flooring to the other units when the tenants leave rather than replacing the carpet. I told her I would even consider paying a little more on my rent if she put them in my unit!

Ohhhhhhh, now I can put everything in it's place. Thank you this perspective of your home. 1000 sq feet for an apt. is pretty amazing, especially with a second floor...you are sooooooo lucky to have a the stairway bannisters for decorating!

Your apartment looks so warm and inviting. You've sure done great with 1000 square feet. I hope you get that laminate flooring! :)

Laminated floor is always better than carpets, much healthier and easier for cleaning. And the size of the apartment is quite okay, but of course a bigger place is always nice for all the beautiful finds of yours.

Wood laminate would look fantastic in your apartment and go so well with your cottage decor. I have it in my bathroom (and will soon be installing it in my kitchen). It is so easy to maintain. I hope your landlord agrees!

I completely understand small. My whole house is only slightly bigger than your apartment; 1300 sq. ft. When I see all the different decorating styles and colors I'd like to try, or when my daughter was growing up and I felt like we were bursting at the seams, I have often wished I had a bigger house. But small can be good too. Now that we are getting older and are empty nesters, I remind myself we really don't need anything bigger. Small is easier to clean and maintain. Small equals a smaller mortgage and monthly maintenance costs. And most of all...small IS cozy! I love small!

Your home is absolutely gorgeous. I am so envious of you and your decorating style. I feel so lame most times I share my home on my blog. You should feel so proud of your beautiful space that you call home.

What a pretty view when entering your cozy home. It is a welcoming space. The laminate floors would be great, especially with your decor. Hmmmm... maybe you could tell your landlord how great they would look on TV. Yep, you could give her a little plug on how she added the wood floors to better show off your decor.

You know what? I think your style of decorating looks nicer in smaller cozy spaces. So your place is perfect! It's so romantic and girly. I just love it and I loved seeing it from that view.

I also love that you use your things and don't just have them for looks. Like the candles are always lit.

Great job!

Cindy you don't need a mansion to have a beautiful place. I can't tell you how much you have inspired me since I discovered your blog. It is so much fun to see what you do with your apartment and how much I enjoy your decorating. Your ingenuity and creativity are fabulous. You really give me a lift everyday when I read your blog. Please keep up the good work. I so enjoy it........

I actually think your Landlord should be paying you for taking such good care of the apartment! I sure hope she knows how lucky she is to have you living there!

Thanks for showing that angle - it does help put things in perspective. You have a lovely, peaceful, soothing decorating style. Your home is beautiful.

Hi Cindy,
It is so cozy. I like small because it's less to clean. Someday I hope to move into a little 2 bedroom cottage with no stairs. Hope you having a good week. Stop by sometime.

Hugs,
LeAnn :)

I'm a landlord and I sure wish you were in my house! I'd gladly put in the laminate floors. Just lovely!

That photo is beautiful!!
I hope your landlord will put in the flooring. I would think that he would be willing just because of the care that you put into the apt.

Your apartment may be small, but it is certainly beautiful. Yes, wood floor would look great.

My place is around 1257 sq ft and although small is sometimes hard to decorate with furniture. Too much and you don't have enough room and not enough you have no space for quest to sit. You've done well my girl in making your place look in proportion.
Always wonder just how everything looked together.
It would be nice if the landlord does the laminate. Even nicer if she did radiate heat on the floor.
So nice of you to share.

I used to live in a townhouse with your exact same floorplan! Oh, how I wish I'd had someone like you to help me decorate that place. I hadn't found my style yet, and my place was so vanilla. You are a very talented decorator. Your home is cozy and lovely.

Cindy,

Your home is warm and cozy. I don't think square footage has anything to do with creating that feeling.

It's your decorating skill and vision that create that cozy feeling. It's the details and care you put into decorating that shines.

I think you could take a utility closet and make it warm and inviting.

Cindy I love the layout of your room. Oh how nice hardwood floors would look. I am trying to convince my hubby that we put down a hardwood floor instead of replacing the carpet. I will have to keep at him.

Cindy,

thanks for taking a picture of your home from this angle. Now I get the perspective. I love small little cottage homes. Even if I could afford a huge home, I would still want a small cozy one. You have done wonders with your "cozy little home". Wood floors would look awesome.

Cindy, your home is so pretty. I think back on our first home of 800 square feet. And some of my favorite decorating to this day was in that house. The picture is beautiful and I know you must feel so blessed and proud of your place. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Congratulations on HGTV coming to your home!!
I think your landlord should put the wood in for you...a great tenant should be rewarded for lovingly caring for his real estate. Do they know HGTV is coming? I bet they would have done it if you had longer notice.
I enjoy coming and visiting your blog each day. Thanks for all the posts. Mary

Hi Cindy,
This is charming. We too live in a very small house. You've done such an awesome job pulling your small area together, it really looks like something out of a magazine and you should congratulate yourself. I wish I could pull our small area together this well ;)

aww i love your house, i think hard wood floors are over rated. We had some in previous apartments, and its not something i think i'd ever put in if it wasn't already where i was living. Thats just me though =p I seem to be in the minority! LOL I love your blog =D

You have done a fab job with your 1000 sq feet! My home is pretty small - well, according to todays standard 3000 sq ft and up - mine is right at 1600 sq ft, give or take. I'm always amazed at how some people can have so much in such a small space and it not seem crowded at all. I struggle with that. I want more stuff, but I don't want to over-crowd things!
