Mirror Makeover II - Another Technique

Pin It Now!

This is another technique I use to paint my mirrors. The photo above is the "after" I didn't take a "before" picture but it was a glitzy gold. I bought this mirror on sale for $15 at Marshalls. First step is to spray paint it white.
Put a small amount of some craft paint in a bowl.  I used Folk Art brand in "Nutmeg" Add water to the paint to dilute it.
Paint a small area of the frame with the glaze (watered-down paint mixture). Wipe off the excess until there is just the right amount left to your liking. I use a paper towel but you could also use a rag.

If you get too much paint down in the crevices push the paper towel down with the back of the paint brush to remove some.
After this dried I used the same technique I showed you last week with the Rub 'n Buff to add some more color to the high areas. Click here to see that.
That's it! All done!  You can use this technique on a lot of different things...furniture, lamps, frames, etc.

If you have any questions, I'll answer them in the comments section.

Cindy, It is beautiful.
I do have a question, is there a difference in this craft paint and Rub a Buff? I can buy the craft paint but the Rub and Buff I would have to buy on line, because I have never seen it.
Thank-you

Very pretty. I used to just look past all the glitzy gold items in the store. I am going to have to start giving them a second look.

Hi Cindy,
I have also used other colors to antique with!
Like white over pink or minty green! Even pink over white!

Ladies you don't have to use just brown for antiqueing!
Get creative and experiment!

Thanks Cindy!

Hi Cindy,
Love the mirrow. Do you ever get tired? LOL! I was wondering, is that the tile on your kitchen countertop that the mirror is laying on? I am looking to change my countertop (plain beige formica) and so many use the granite...but I love the look of the tile. Thanks~Rosemary
