Show and Tell Friday!

Pin It Now!

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!  This week has been busy and I'm not even working! The good news is that I had a 3rd and final job interview yesterday!  Now I'm just waiting to hear if I got it.  They said they will be making a decision in the next 2 weeks! Fingers crossed!

This week since I don't have anything new to share I decided to do a year in review type of post.  The yummy muffins above are actually a low cal recipe using cake mix and canned pumpkin.  You can find the recipe here: Pumpkin Muffins

I also ordered business cards for my blog this year!  Here is the link to those:  Business Cards

It was a good year for the flowers growing in my little garden! I can hardly wait for Spring now!

I rode my bike across the Golden Gate Bridge a couple times this year!  I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area my whole life and this is the first time I've ever done this!  I have to thank my boyfriend, Dan, that I met last April for this fun experience! This has been a hard year for me, losing my mom and my job but one of the good things about this year has been meeting him!

Okay, I planned to share more from 2011 but I'm now running late, I'm off to go visit my son today so I have to run....

Show and Tell Friday

Pin It Now!

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!  This year I tried to save money since I'm unemployed and use my fake skinny Christmas tree that I usually put in my dining room instead of buying a real tree.  You may remember that this is the tree that I hung with blue and white china in previous years. Remember this?...

Christmas 2009

Well, it made a much nicer tree in my dining room than it does for my main tree. I learned my lesson, I won't be using this as my main tree ever again.  I even thought about taking it all down and going out and buying a real tree but I reminded myself that I'm unemployed and I need to hang on to my money!

So, I'm sharing my almost-Charlie Brown Christmas Tree this week and my little dog Beau...

Beau

We wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Put a ring on it!

Pin It Now!

This morning I saw my daughter's ring sitting on the kitchen counter. It's one of those rings that has the stretchy band.  I got an idea!  It would look great on an old bottle!

Hmmm....now I'm going to be on the lookout for more of these rings! They can do double-duty! On your finger or on a bottle!

I Love Baking!

Pin It Now!

It's time for our holiday cookie exchange at work and I seriously thought about not joining in this year. It's my last week of work...I was laid off on November 1st and I'm still not happy about that, but the truth is I LOVE to bake! I try not to bake too often because I also love to EAT baked goods!

This year I made some snowflake sugar cookies with royal icing.  I think I'm getting better at my cookie decorating! Thankfully, each batch I make seems to look better than the last!  That sort of makes me want to bake all the time but I would be 300 lbs if I did! I can't resist cookies!...or any baked goods for that matter!

I also made some White-Chocolate Cherry Shortbread Cookies from Better Homes and Gardens. The recipe is here. These are really good and I think they would have been even better had I remembered to put in the almond extract!

Show and Tell Friday!

Pin It Now!

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!  Last week we had a record number of bloggers join in!!!  I could hardly believe it when I saw 527 links!!  Thanks to all of you that join in and thanks also to all of those that just visit!

This week I'm sharing my new hummingbird feeder.   I've had so many hummingbirds in my yard lately! One even came right up to me and hovered almost nose to nose beak with me! It was really amazing!  Lauren and I went to a local hardware store to find a hummingbird feeder and I was amazed at the selection! I thought I would have to buy one of those ugly red plastic ones!  I saw this one that looks like a green bottle and thought it was so pretty! As I was hanging it I saw a hummingbird sitting on the telephone wire right behind my patio.  I can't wait until they find it.  We will be able to watch them from our living room!

Update:  I found this same hummingbird feeder on Amazon! click here to see it.

Christmas in White!

Pin It Now!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas (finally!) in my apartment!  I moved my birdhouse table under the stairs to make room for my Christmas tree.  I had a lot of fun decorating this table top in all white!

I even decked out my dining room chandelier (above) with some faux pine branches.  It looks so pretty with the crystals hanging below the greens.

I filled this large apothecary jar with plastic snow and put a small cottage ornament on top and decorated it with trees and more snow.  I never thought I would love plastic snow as much as I have the last couple years! There are so many things you can do with it!

More plastic snow in my paperwhites! I can't wait for these to bloom!

I hope you enjoyed my table top winter wonderland!

The last of my garden roses of 2011

Pin It Now!

Here it is, December 12th and I still have roses blooming in my garden!  I think this will be my last full bouquet although I still have quite a few buds on my Climbing Eden Rose but I'm not sure if they will even open because it's been getting cold here at night! We've even had some frost but the roses didn't seem to care!

We had a record number of people joining in for Show and Tell last week! Over 500!!!  Whoohoo! Thanks everyone!

Show and Tell Friday!

Pin It Now!

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!

Honestly, I don't remember a time in my life when I've been busier than I am right now! Between job searching and still working (my last day is December 23rd) there is just not enough hours in the day!

I started decorating for Christmas Tuesday night! I really wasn't in the mood at all! I had just received a rejection notice from Google, after only two phone interviews!  I really thought I would have made it farther through the interview process than that!  My feelings were hurt...there were even tears involved! I  really wanted to work there! After all,  I use Google Blogger to blog, I have Google ads on my blog, I use Picnik photo editing, Google Documents, Google Maps... I could go on and on! I'm sure I use a lot more Google products than some of the people that actually work there!  And...I know I'm good at what I do!  Oh well, it's their loss!  I have other interviews happening...they were just my first choice of where I really wanted to work!

Anyway...back to decorating for Christmas, I started Tuesday night and then just as I started, I got a fever, the chills and next thing I know I'm laying in bed with the flu! Damn you Google! I think it's your fault! I really wanted to work there! I'm sure I'll recover...

So for the last two days my place has looked like a disaster zone! I have all my decorations pulled out, a half-decorated tree and no energy to do anything about it.  Tonight I'm finally starting to get back to it all so I'm sharing some of my vintage ornaments that I bought at a flea market a few years ago! This picture does not do them justice! I've rambled on enough...I can't wait to see what you have to share this week!

Happy Birthday Lauren!  I can't believe you are 19 years old already!!!  Nothing makes me prouder than when your managers tell me what a hard worker you are and that you always have a smile on your face! I love you honey!  I hope you have a wonderful birthday and a wonderful last year of being a teenager!

Show and Tell Friday!

Pin It Now!

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!

I have a tradition of buying my daughter a Christmas ornament every year. I've been doing this since she was really little and I try to find one that is meaningful for that year.  A couple weeks ago I walked into a little shop in and saw this nail polish ornament and knew it would be perfect for this year!  Why?  Not because she is always polishing her nails...because now she will remember this is the ornament that she got the year she spilled fingernail polish on my carpet! haha!  Luckily she spilled it right after I found out that I'm getting new wood floors put in soon!  I think she will find this ornament hilarious!  Luckily she doesn't read my blog so I don't think she will see this here and it will be a surprise when she opens it on Christmas Eve!
