Show and Tell Friday!

Pin It Now!

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!

Honestly, I don't remember a time in my life when I've been busier than I am right now! Between job searching and still working (my last day is December 23rd) there is just not enough hours in the day!

I started decorating for Christmas Tuesday night! I really wasn't in the mood at all! I had just received a rejection notice from Google, after only two phone interviews!  I really thought I would have made it farther through the interview process than that!  My feelings were hurt...there were even tears involved! I  really wanted to work there! After all,  I use Google Blogger to blog, I have Google ads on my blog, I use Picnik photo editing, Google Documents, Google Maps... I could go on and on! I'm sure I use a lot more Google products than some of the people that actually work there!  And...I know I'm good at what I do!  Oh well, it's their loss!  I have other interviews happening...they were just my first choice of where I really wanted to work!

Anyway...back to decorating for Christmas, I started Tuesday night and then just as I started, I got a fever, the chills and next thing I know I'm laying in bed with the flu! Damn you Google! I think it's your fault! I really wanted to work there! I'm sure I'll recover...

So for the last two days my place has looked like a disaster zone! I have all my decorations pulled out, a half-decorated tree and no energy to do anything about it.  Tonight I'm finally starting to get back to it all so I'm sharing some of my vintage ornaments that I bought at a flea market a few years ago! This picture does not do them justice! I've rambled on enough...I can't wait to see what you have to share this week!

Darn that google! Your right, their loss! I have the flu too and I have no Christmas decor up what's so ever. One of my grandson's was over last week and walked in the door and said "gramma why is your house not decorated like Christmas?" I gotta admit, that hurt a little! At this point I din't know if I even have the energy...
But I hope you are feeling better soon!
Take care there...

Take care of yourself! It doesn't surprise me that you have gotten sick. It seems that every single time I have experienced some major trauma such as the loss of a job or the death of someone close, I also come down with some horrible sickness. I think our body's immune/defense systems can only take so much before they crash.

I am sure you will find a great job some where which is worthy of your many talents and abilities.

Oh Cindy.....
The job search process is one riddled with pain and yes...some tears!!! Sometimes it even plays havoc with your body and gives you the flu! Research shows that of all the stressful situations in life--losing a job and looking for a job both rank up there very high! Thankfully, you have wonderful skills, great experience and an excellent presence. As much as you think you LOVE Google and their products, it just wasn't the place for you to work (you can still love and use their products!)!!! So, they did you and your future employer a real favor by not scooping you up! When Google turned down my son (silly them!), it forced him to make the decision to get his PhD....they also did him a favor!!!
Your job is out there babe!
Good luck and keep the faith!
Onward,
Judi

Oh Cindy, the job search is so soul-testing --- and YES Google is foolish to pass you up. Google's phone interviewers are clearly total POOPY HEADS. And they made you sick, sending google germs right thru the phone lines.

You go back to bed and get better, y'hear? Then worry about decorating, etc.... it will wait for you.

I'm sorry, sweetie.
I will put in a Santa request for the perfect job for you!

Re Google - send them a nice thank you note. Then in January, contact the person to whom you spoke with and see if the position has been filled. If not, ask them to meet with you again, preferable in person. BE NICE. In fact, before you call them, write a script so you don't get all confused when your on the phone. Good luck. If that's the place you want to be, you'll have to be persistent. You can do it.

Times are so tough right now, I know it's not a fun time to be job hunting. I wanted so badly to work at Hoag hospital in Newport beach...after 2 interviews I really thought I was in! It was between me and one other candidate. I got the call that they'd gone with the other candidate and I was devastated:( After about 12 more rejections my husband told me let's just scrimp and save for now...the break has been nice but I know I need to get myself back out there eventually. It was really hard on my ego though!!!!

We are pulling for you dear Cindy and like someone else mentioned...maybe this is the time for you to change paths and do something decorating related!

Vicki said...

Oh, pooh on Google! I'm sorry, Cindy. Don't take it personally; you never know what these companies have going on behind the scenes. Sometimes they've already got somebody in-house in mind and they just go thru the hiring/interviewing motions to satisfy other requirements.

Honey, don't let this suck the life out of you at Christmas, when you're sick and probably missing your mom, too. Some Christmases are better than others.

I read this last week which has stuck with me (went something like this):

"Christmastime has a way of turning the world into a fantasy, where everyone is supposed to be happy, together and wonderful. Christmas gets glammed up but, at the heart of it, it celebrates a very quiet moment. Don't miss its promise!"

Reading that, it sort of quieted me down. I'm in a similar situation where my life is complicated at the moment, so it takes real effort to put your heart into decorating and doing all the traditional stuff. So, I've decided to just pick a couple of them, and that's okay.

I'd say, plan your special things but also leave some time for reflection after the 23rd. You're about to embark on a new journey; who knows what's in store for 2012! Possibilities; exciting, refreshing...lots to look forward to for you, Cindy. I had read this, too: "Take this time as an opportunity for rest and introspection; a needed oasis before the new year."

Don't mean to sound preachy; just trying to send you comforting wishes and best of luck ahead!

(By the way, your vintage gold ornaments are elegant. My favorite auntie used a lot of gold decorations at Christmas and I would love to visit her home at this time of year. She had great decorating flair/style, like you. A welcoming, beautifully-decorated home, no matter where it is...she lived in a mobile home toward the end of her days after having much larger houses...is something the rest of us always remember. The home is, of course, your mirror...it says so much that's good about you who lives there; don't forget that, okay? 'Cause your home looks pretty darn beautiful in photos!)

I'm sorry you didn't get the job at Google. I understand they pretty much only hire people under 25 who don't have family, because you're expected to put your life into the job there. :(
