Tablescape Thursday

Pin It Now!

I'm joining in on Susan's (Between Naps on the Porch) Tablescape Thursday today.

I bought these large shell bowls at Move it Elsewhere last weekend. I got 10 of them for $15. Only $1.50 each...you can't beat that!
I know many of you are decorating for Fall now but I just can't get into that yet because it just doesn't feel like Autumn here in Northern California until about mid-October or later!
When I saw these bowls I fell in love with them and thought they would be perfect for my Shrimp Louie Salads that I love to make (and eat). Remember those? If not, click here. I had so much fun putting this table setting together! I used my little blue and white bone dishes. I thought those would be perfect for lemon wedges. I also put my glass fish plates under the shell bowl since they went well with the beachy theme. I used large napkins as placemats to add some color. I would have preferred to have some light blue dinner plates instead of the white ones but I don't have any...and I really don't have room to store any more dishes! Unfortunately!!!
When I first picked up one of these bowls it was a HUGE letdown! I thought they were glass or ceramic and they are melamine! I almost didn't buy them but I figured if they look like glass then why not! I'm glad I did now!
When I came home from buying these I got on the computer to see if I could find some on the Internet to get an idea how much they sell for. I found out they are sold through restaurant supply companies and they come in different sizes. I may buy some smaller ones to hold the Shrimp Louie dressing! If you are interested, click here to see one place that sells them, but there are many more...just do a google search on "shell bowls".

Oh, I almost forgot...did you notice I moved my dining room table around?

Stop by Susan's blog to see more Tablescapes!

Note: the pictures on my right sidebar can now be enlarged. I had a couple people ask me if I would do that so I put a link on those photos so when you click on them it takes you to that photo in Flickr.

Those bowls are fantastic and you are right, if you didn't notice they were melamine at first then why not get them! From the pics, I would never have known. Your centerpiece with the seagull and starfish is perfect. Your home is so lovely and I have long-time admired all you have done while just being a renter!

Your post is gorgeous! Fantastic!
I need to pick up more dishes...I think. More garage sales? :)

Beautiful tablescape. I love it!!! And you are right about fall in California. We don't get it until almost Halloween if at all. Here in SoCal where I love it's suppose to go up to 108 degrees by next week. Yikes!!! I love the shell bowls & your summery tablescape. I was going to do a summer tablescape, but procrastinated.

Those bowls are fantastic. You could even use one in your bathroom to hold towels or soaps, etc.....

Move it Elsewhere can become and addiction.

I love your tablescape for today! And the shell bowls are wonderful. I bought a big one shaped like that for salads & such. I almost didn't buy it becuase that shape is hard to store in the cabinets. But, like you... So Glad I Bought It. And I do love your starfish & other Ocean pretties (yes, I see that Conch Shell on the sideboard loving it too). Earlier today I did a post about my Ocean Themed stuff & how I need to put it away for Fall. Since we have had the rain & cooler temps Texas feels more like Fall now than it ususally does this time of year. So I know what you mean about hating to put away the Ocean Treasures. Have a great weekend.

A stunning room--what a setting. Everything ties so well together. Very beautiful--takes my breath away!! I see it and say ahhhhhh. As far as the melamine ...I have seen a lot of pretty dishes on Ebay made of this...I am a bit leary to eat off of them...I keep wondering about safety issues. When I looked up what they are made of it has some pretty bad ingredients. BUT then again perhaps the combination makes them safe.

What CUTE bowls Cindy! I would want the little ones too. You inspired me with this post. I'm cleaning all the sewing junk off the dining room table and when my husband gets home tonight he will find a pretty table set!

I'm now on Move It Elsewhere's email list, thanks to you.

I'm sure one of their sales will coincide with a family visit in the Bay Area...or maybe it's the family visit that will coincide with their sale, lol!

Hi Cindy~ ~I never tire of looking at your home. I love all the creams and whites everywhere. It is the house I dream of, mostly white with touches of color.
Oh well, for now I am working with what I have and I am grateful for that for it is beautiful in it's own way.

How lucky you are - those shell bowls were just wonderful - and what a bargin! Nothing ss (= feels) better to get something for nearly nothing, and then be able to set such a adorable table with it! I love the fabric on your dining chairs, but then again I'm a Toile-girl myself, you know! Have a lovely weekend, and do not hurry to set an autumn table, because the season gets there fast enough! We face the autumn already, and, as my husband say: "Soon it's Christmas"! - A little bit to go before that, I say! Hugs Cathrine in Norway
