Shells, moss and eggs & helping a stranger

Pin It Now!

Shells, moss and eggs...what a strange combination but I think it all works together, doesn't it? I'm loving this reindeer moss! It's such a bright pop of color, especially with all the white I have.

See the color of the shells...that was my inspiration for my new wall color.
***********************************************
Now on to helping a stranger...Yesterday I stopped in at the thrift store on my lunch hour. As I walked around the corner to the next aisle I saw out of the corner of my eye a woman who didn't quite seem right. She was holding on to her cart with one hand and on to the display shelf with the other hand and her head was down. Just as I was about to ask if she was okay, she called me over to her. I asked her if she felt faint and she said yes. OH MY GOSH...there was no place for her to sit down and she was a large woman and I know I wouldn't be able to hold her up if she passed out. My mind was racing...What should I do??? I ran as fast as I could (in high heels) to the front and yelled that I needed help. As I ran back to her I passed a large chair and I grabbed the big cushion off it. (I'm shocked that I even was able to think clearly enough to do that) I was relieved that when I got back to her she was still standing! I put the cushion on top of the shopping cart and told her to lay down on it. Her feet were on the floor but the top of her body was laid across the cart. I stood at the back end of the shopping cart and held her hands tightly so if she fainted she wouldn't fall. She was very clammy. I asked her if she was a diabetic, if she had eaten anything, all the while telling her she was going to be okay. What the heck was taking those people at the front so long to get back there? No one else was helping me and I didn't know what to do!!!!! She kept thanking me even though she could barely talk. She said she may just be having a panic attack...I've had those before and it's very scary to go through! I was trying to slowly lead her, as she was laid over the shopping cart, to a chair. Finally the manager showed up and the lady asked that they call 911 for her. They brought a chair to her but they never did call 911, I'm not sure why. After a few minutes she started feeling better. I went through a time in my life when I fainted easily so I know that it's important to get your head down below your heart and you can usually stop yourself from fainting so I think having her lay on the shopping cart helped. Once she was feeling better she thanked me over and over again for helping her. She even gave me a big hug before I left. She was there with her Aunt who was shopping in a different part of the store when all this happened so luckily I didn't have to leave her alone. The reason I'm sharing this is because we all need to help others in need even if they are strangers. Twice in my life I've been in this woman's position and no one helped me. They just stared at me like I was on drugs or something. Once I was like her, feeling faint and another time I slipped on a wet floor in a store and fell so hard that I couldn't stand up for a few minutes. Both times people looked at me and walked by, not even asking if I was okay!!! I think people hope that someone else will help so they don't have to get involved! We need to get involved! We need to help each other! Put yourself in their place. After I was in those situations I told myself that I would help a stranger in need and I have quite a few times now. Now I need to go sign up for a first aid class so I can do more than hold their hands and tell them everything is going to be okay!!!

Hi Cindy,
Thanks for sharing your experience with this poor woman. You were a friend in time of need and you will be rewarded for that I believe. You are right, we are all humans and we need each other. We all share the frailties of life whether we realize that or not. I hope to be a "light" in a dark world wherever I am and you do too. I enjoy your blog soooo much, checking everyday. I'm fairly new to this blogging world, but I'm learning and it has been a blessing in my life. Really like the moss with the shells, it gives them something to contrast with. Thanks for being you, Linda

I am sure this lady will NEVER forget your act of kindness...and hopefully, she like others will pay it forward. You are so right...We all NEED help from time to time...and I think it's the least we can do as we are all part of the "family" of man. I can not imagine being in that situation and feeling so helpless...you were a great "friend" during this womans time of need. God smiled upon you that day...giving you the wisdom when you needed it to help her.

How scary for not only her but you too. Shame on those people that didn't call 911. You should give them a piece of your mind. What if she was having a heart attack?

Yes we do need to help strangers. It's so sad that so many won't. I don't understand those people.

Even if you feel like you can't do anything you can. You can call for help and most of all give comfort to the person. Just knowing they are not alone helps them to calm down.

Good for you Cindy. I'm proud of you!

Hi Cindy,
That lady's guardian angel put you in the right place at the right time to help her in a time of need. I can't believe no one else would help and so don't get it. Something like this happened to me years ago with a lady needing help, she had wandered away from her rest home across the street and she had Alzheimers. The lady at the pharmacy dept of Safeway was more than happy to help us as we sat on the bench waiting. I'll never forget that lady and how she thought we were at church. Good deeds come back to you as sweet blessings, maybe not from the same place, but they do come back to you, Cindy ;)
I love what you've done with the seashells and moss, it's lovely together. I may borrow your idea for my porch table if you don't mind. Happy weekend, it's supposed to be like Summer for us here in California!

How frustrating that the people in the store didn't even react quickly, or call 911. You almost have to be like in their face for them to react.

I love the green moss with the shells. So pretty.

Cindy,
Bless you, we need more people like you. I usually tell people to just sit down where they are, the worst part of fainting is injuring themselves when they fall, especially their head. If they are sitting they can lay down or put their head down. Also if they are laying down if you put their legs up it faciltates venous return to the head.
In the 31 years I've been an RN I've had plenty of people faint on me but it is something that you never get used to. I agree with others who said that they should have called 911.
The world is a better place because of you!

Well done & said Cindy. I have never commented before, just a reader usually. It is absolutely so important to be mindful and to help others whenever possible. I am a huge advocate of opening doors, smiling at strangers on the street just because, and simply doing any act on kindness for anyone. A story like this only shows all of us even more what a kind and genuine person you are.

Some people are good, but are so callused by all the bad people in the world, that they are thinking how is this person going to take advantage of me? What are they going to want from me? What if they are up to no good and put me in the middle of it?

You are good through and through and don't ask those questions. You only see help needed and provide that help. We need more people like you in the world, but sadly the way the world is and people tuning in to all the bad stuff on the evening news, it seems we have more of the people that are asking those questions instead of putting their heart out there and helping.

I do wish that there were more people in the world like you who are willing to help someone else in need! Like you, I can't even imagine walking by someone who clearly could use a helping hand or at the least, someone to check on them, and not stopping! I also had a situation in a grocery store where I needed help, an an associate even walked by the end of the aisle, I waved at him, and he waved back and kept walking?! Huh? Do people really wave at the associates often for no reason? ;)

Cindy I'm so glad you were there to help this lady in her time of need. This happened to my hubby and me once in a busy train station in London. A very large lady stumbled and fell down and people were practically walking on her! Hubby and I surrounded her to keep others from trampling her. We yelled loud enough that some others finally stopped to help us get her on her feet again. She was okay, just very embarrassed, and like the lady you helped, so appreciative that we helped her.

Your eggs, moss, and shells are beautiful. I saw a similar three tier basket recently at TJ Maxx, I think, but it was black. Maybe I'll go back for it and spray paint it white. Yours is so lovely! ♥

Bless you Cindy and remember this person will take you with her through her life and she will be always be with you in yours. The measure of ones success is not by what we accumulate in life but by what we give away and giving our heart to another human is what God is watching and judging us by.

Wow, I'm so glad you were there to help that poor woman ~ it sure doesn't sound like anyone else even cared ~ how sad is that? Our society is so fixated on texting, talking on cell phones, etc. that we've forgotten how to interact in person and so many people seem so distant. I notice when I'm out walking the pooch that people who happen to be walking toward me do everything they can to avoid eye contact - how strange!
Well, I'm really thankful that there are still kind and caring people like you in the world. I think it's terrible that nobody helped you when you fell.

Bless you for helping this lady! You are right, people don't seem to care or help anymore. I have been in several situations where I was amazed I was the only one to step in or say something when someone obviously needed help or a situation looked dangerous. I once slipped on ice in front of a bank. Fell forward and hit my head on a metal lampost and tore the fabric of pants, was laying on the sidewalk bleeding on my leg and head. Several people walked past me into the bank and not one person stopped! All I can say is I really believe the old saying "what goes around, comes around". When you are a good person and do the right thing, it comes back to you in many forms of blessing! You will have a wonderful weekend knowing you did the right thing!

Cindy,

How wonderful that you were able to help, and wonderful that you were there, at that time.

And how ironic that you would post this. Just a couple days ago my hubby was golfing with our pastor when he saw a gentleman on the green ahead of him collapse to the ground. Hubby's a recently retired Houston fire captain, so he naturally, jumped on the golf cart and raced to see what was happening.

When he got there, the man was, medically speaking, dead. No pulse. No hearbeat. Not breathing. Hubby started CPR immediately (while someone called 911 and while our pastor prayed) and by the time the ambulance arrived, the man was holding a conversation. He was admitted to the hospital and was told he'd had a heart attack.

I shudder to think of his fate, had my husband and our pastor not been at that exact place at that exact time.

I am currently expecting and have had a really difficult pregnancy and I'm sick most of the time. I went to a Big chain store and got so ill I was trying to leave when I barely made it to the door and got sick. I was struggling to be on my 2 feet and trying to get to my car. I wanted to ask for help but couldn't. Not ONE person stopped to help me. No one asked if I needed help...I was so sad that I will bring my kids to a world in which we don't care about helping others.

I'm so proud of you for helping that poor lady. . . I know what it's like to be ignored too, and it's no fun! I once had a car (a 72 Dodge-Jeff's) stall in the middle of the intersection at Meridian and Hamilton. Not ONE person got out to help me push that stupid car across the intersection and people actually HONKED. I've NEVER forgotten that and I always try to help folks who need it. Good job, you!

Love the new paint color!

Glad you acted so quickly Cindy...you were an angel! In my job as a Social Worker visiting elderly and disabled individuals, I find myself having to call 911 from time to time....like last week. People are reluctant to get involved...thank God for compassionate souls like you! Bless you! Susan

not sure if you'll reach this as it is way down on the comments but you know I think that it's a sad old world we live in when people don't help each other

i posted about it last week - helped people out alot and they didn't seem to care that I did it, but then I just think you can build up your karma credits

just thank goodness you were there for her, because what else might have happened and your act of kindness will be remembered, even if only by me on the other side of the world smile

Sarah

p.s. of course I love the moss and shells

Thank goodness you were there to help her. I went through a very similiar thing just a week ago. I was very sick and got up in the middle of the night and felt faint, I hyperventilated so hard that my hands and feet went numb. When I got to the hospital and got a shot of addavan to calm me down, my blood pressure was 63/43. I was sooo dehydrated from being sick. I spent Easter weekend in the hospital. It was all so scary. The poor woman was so gratful I know.

I love your shells, I hope to add to my collection this summer and make a display with them as you have done.

I read on your blog somewhere that you have a Camaro. I too have a Camaro, a red one. It is my baby and I won't part with it. I drive the explorer mostly, but I just can't bring myself to sell it. I hope to keep it until it becomes a classic like the cute little vintage Mustangs.
I have the 30th Ann. edition so maybe someday it will happen. Just thought that it was unique that you have one also.

I enjoy your blog so much, you are truly inspiring.

May the Lord bless you for kindness
to another. We need more people like you in this world, one by one
we can try to make it a better place.
Love your 3 tier tray, do you know where your readers could order one
like this or similar to it. I love
the 3 tiers for decorating.

She was lucky you were nearby. I can't imagine anyone not helping another in need. What a cold world if that happens very often. It could happen to anyone. On a lighter note, loving the eggs and shells with moss. Hugs, Pam

Sometimes holding hands and saying, "You'll be okay" is enough. Bless you for taking the time to get involved!

Oh my gosh! Cindy, thank God you were there for her! Yes, I think it would be very wise for you to take a few classes- the universe is definitely putting you in places where you are needed.

DEAR CINDY,
I WAS RAISED THAT YOU HELP ANYONE IN NEED...NO MATTER WHAT AND NOT THAT YOU JUST HELP THEM BUT CONSIDER IT A PRIVLEDGE TO HELP SOMEONE. I AM SO VERY SAD, KNOWING THE BEAUTIFUL PERSON YOU ARE, THAT NOT ONLY ONCE BUT TWICE YOU WERE IN NEED AND NOT A SINGLE PERSON HELPED YOU..I APOLOGIZE FOR THOSE PEOPLE.
PEOPLE ARE TO A POINT THEY EITHER JUST DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR FELLOW MAN OR THEY ARE AFRAID OF BEING SUED. I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS HUMAN INSTINCT TO HELP WITHOUT THINKING.
THANK YOU FOR HELPING THIS LADY.
ON A HAPPIER NOTE I LOVE YOUR REINDEER MOSS AND SHELLS...SO BEAUTIFUL...YOUR BLOG IS SO BEAUTIFUL...I LOVE TO COME HERE AND VISIT...IT IS LIKE TAKING A LONG HOT BATH...VERY RELAXING.
I LOVE...LOVE...THE BEDSPREAD YOU BOUGHT....I HAVE A FULL SIZE BED...I LOVE HOW YOU LAYERED IT...
HUGS TO YOU DEAR LADY

I just love the POP of color the moss makes in with your beautiful shells. I'd love to get my hands on shells like you have! Up here in the Pacific NW, all I seem to find are clam shells and silver dollars. Not a whole lot of interest there...

Thank you for all your beautiful posts! I've fallen in love with blue more and more just reading your blog. I completely changed my look when I moved from our old house into our new one. I was all about reds and apple greens, etc. Now, I am enjoying so much the soothing blues and whites that I have. What a difference a color can make!
