Bathroom Decorating in Progress

Pin It Now!

The bathroom is painted (Behr Paint in Denim Blue, oops sorry I made a mistake in my original post...it's actually Bleached Denim) and it's been fun doing the finishing touches. I found the shelf above on clearance at Home Goods awhile ago. It was a much darker color than I wanted so I just spray painted it a creamy white. I still need to do a little antiquing on it to get rid of that flat spray painted look. That little oval on the top is just crying out for something but I'm not sure what. A monogram is the first thing I thought of but since I plan to go back to my maiden name soon and Lauren's last name will be different, I really don't want to do that. I wish I was good at painting I would paint a little seashell or something. Maybe I could decoupage a shell on there! Any other ideas?

I made the starfish picture above last night with just things I had around the house. An old frame, some old linens and a starfish. I really like it! Very beach cottage, don't ya think?
I bought the curtain awhile ago at a thrift store. It's a "Simply Shabby Chic" originally from Target. I think I paid $3.00 for it. I also made a skirt for the sink area last night using a white sheet that I had on hand and some ribbon. Very cheap inexpensive!
Tonight I need to paint the trim and also paint the mirror frame. I still need to either fix the chandelier I recently bought or find something else. Then it will be done!!! Now that I have color on the walls in there, I cannot believe I lived with a very plain beige bathroom for 5 years! I realized on Sunday after I finished painting it that it was our 5 year anniversary of living in this apartment! Time flies...Lauren was only in 5th grade when we moved in here and now she's in her second year of high school!

Lovely, love the blue, how about gluing a small shell onto the oval and spray painting over it, too? Looks great!

That is the pretties color of blue. I love all your personal touches, especially the framed starfish. That was a very clever idea. Makes me want to redo my bathrooms.

L.O.V.E. I.T. I was thinking a shell (or shells) on the oval, or wee little glass or diamondy beads. Love the sheet idea! You go girl.

You know they have those rub on's at Michaels they might have seashells too.

I like that shelf. It's a great color for the walls.

Hi Cindy, the bath looks great!! Why did you decide to paint instead of using the blue toile wallpaper you had?? Linda

Cindy said...

Linda, I was just too chicken to attempt the wallpaper. I knew it would be a huge challenge for me to get it cut out around the toilet plumbing and the window, etc. I just decided to paint it. I may put the wallpaper in my kitchen. I think it will be much easier to do it in there.

Wow! It looks fantastic. I love your finsihing touches. You have a gift at finding just the right item and make it look fabulous.
I like the idea of the monogram on the shelf. I think it would look great with the flowers. How about a double monogram like Ralph Lauren does?

Ever since you mentioned the toile wallpaper for your bathroom, I have been looking forward to seeing it hung up as I'm a toile fan. I can totally relate to your hesistation about wallpapering as I wallpapered my bathroom a few years ago (my first time ever wallpapering) and I just recently took it all down and painted instead because the seams were coming apart and I wanted a change. I ended up hanging a toile shower curtain!

Anyways, I absolutely LOVE the paint color that you used instead and how the white looks so crisp with it. Great job as always and I am looking forward to more updates!

We must be on the same wavelength... I just restyled m bath space, but mine is more linen and sparse, rather than shabby chic (which I love). Painting will have to wait for a month or two, but that's on the list also. your bath looks lovely, and when I was your sheld, I though of the french words "le bain", which means "the bath" right?

Why don't you use the monogram of your first name instead of your last? I would love to see a picture of the complete bathroom. Every little thing looks great - I would just like a visual of the entire room. Great job!

Absolutely beautiful, Cindy. Blue is just the best ever for a bath. You might find a decal at Micahel's that would fit perfectly into the oval. You are so creative I am sure you will come up with a great idea.

Thank you for sharing.

Everything is just gorgeous Cindy, as I knew it would be. Perhaps you could stencil a seashell in the oval of the shelf. Love the starfish in the frame. What did you do to the fabric behind the starfish? It looks like it has a finish on it of some sort from the photo. ♥

Faythe said...

Cindy your bathroom looks great..

I was wondering if you could use your little shell molds that you used for your cupcake, only using polymer clay..maybe make a little cluster of some sort

Suzie said...

Absolutely gorgeous Cindy! What about cutting out a little piece of your toile wallpaper and decopaging it onto the oval?

Terri Steffes said...

That's why I love coming here... it proves a home can be beautiful without being expensive. And I do mean BEAUTIFUL!

Betty Jo, It's a piece (actually 2 pieces) of vintage embroidered linen. If you click on the photo to enlarge it you can see more detail.

Your bath is so fresh and pretty! I know what you mean about the wall paper! My first thought about the oval on your shelf was to glue a pretty brooch there, but not sure what kind since it's a beach theme? You will think of something, you are the queen of beautiful decorating!!!

Suzie said...

Cindy,
I love that color SO much!!
(Behr Paint in Denim Blue) I wrote it down.
Thank you!!

I love the bathroom.
Maybe a sand dollar or a shell in the oval with a bit of vintage clear glitter for a sparkle (not sure what that stuff is called)

MimiG said...

Where do you find all of your starfish? You've got talent, girl.
The bath is looking great!

Cindy said...

Mimi, I buy the starfish. I think I got those at HomeGoods last summer. I think I've only seen a couple starfish wash up at the beach and I've lived in California my whole life!

BriarRose said...

I love love love what you did! You seem to be able to see things for what they can be. Many of us would have passed up the shelf when it wasn't the "right color". I see someone else suggested gluing a small shell...that was going to be my suggestion too...but I was thinking you could glue a little sand at the bottom of the oval and then glue a starfish or silver dollar shell on it. I think of both of those as wishing pieces. Debra

KarenB said...

How about a sillouette of Lauren in the oval?

Karin said...

I love the color! You're so good at picking colors. Decoupaging a shell is a great idea ~ or you could decoupage some blue toile to match the pretty bottles ~ or a tiny mirror... I know you'll think of something special. The shelf and framed star look great!

Sandra said...

Cindy, as always, your site is inspiring. I've got nearly the same color in my bathroom (with beadboard on the lower portion) and it just screams to me everytime I go in there that it wants to be "beachy." Guess I can find a way to make it Shabby Chic Beachy. Thanks.

Your bathroom is looking great! The artwork that you made is beautiful. It's those little details that bring it all together!

Ceekay-THINKIN of HOME said...

Cindy, I think the monogram would be nice but what about a little mosaic? It sure would take much and you could mix the blue and the white. Just a thought!

Marilyn said...

The bathroom looks fabulous. I love the little shelf and how you have customized it, "My Romantic Home" Style!

The first thing I thought of for the top oval, was a small mirror perhaps "framed" with small crystals, or pearls. I think something shine-y and light catching would be nice in the oval.

Nantucket Briar is my favorite C&E fragrance.
How about a vintage image on the little oval? Like an old romantic~style beach scene from a postcard, etc. Might be hard to find one in just the right colors though. The other commenters have lovely ideas as well.

Cindy, Your blog is lovely and I read it every day. I've noticed lately, however, that you have so many ads on the sidebars and for the last few days, even pop-ups! Just was wondering if anyone else has commented on the pop ups?

Cindy said...

Sorry about the pop ups. I don't think they will be running those very long. If it becomes a problem I can opt out of those ads.

What a pretty bathroom! I love that little shelf too. How did you attach the ribbon to the curtain? Did you sew it on or use stitch witchery or something?

Cindy, it looks wonderful! The color you picked is perfect. Rich but also soothing and pretty. I was also thinking that a small shell would be perfect inside that little disc at the top of your shelf! And the ribbon detailing on the sink skirt is so crisp and pretty. I love it! Can't wait to see a photo of the whole bathroom!

Hi Cindy,
wow your bathroom looks amazing.
I love the color choice and what you did with the showercurtain and the ribbon.
I wonder if you could modgepodge a picture of something you like on the little oval. But as good as you are with everything else why wouldn't a brilliant artist be in your blood as well. Just go for it as my friend Jane would say. She is an artist and she says that if you don't like it you just paint over it until you do.

What a lovely shade of blue! I can really see how those cosmetic boxes influenced your choices for the bathroom and it truly IS romantic.

For the oval on your shelf, what about a simple fleur-de-lis? It's elegant, timeless and romantic.

(I don't have time to read all of the comments, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear that somebody else suggested this as well!!!)

Very pretty. You could look at the rubber stamps and stamp a shell or something on there. I like the idea of taking some of the wall paper you wanted to use and putting it there.

I'm sure whatever you decide will be very pretty.

Joanne

P.S. I have never seen a pop up on your blog.

French-Kissed said...

It is looking so good ~ what a wonderful shade of blue and the crisp white against it looks so fresh. Since you already have some shells going on, I like the ideas that mix it up a bit, suggesting a toile insert or a fleur-de-lis in the oval. If you go with the f-d-l, maybe you could use the blue wall color to paint the symbol. Or if you go with your idea of the monogram {using "C" as one reader suggested}, maybe you could paint the oval the blue wall color and do the monogram in white with some gray edging. Or paint the oval blue and paint a white cameo face in the oval. Decisions, decisions...whatever you decide it will be just beautiful!

Lovely bathroom Cindy. I see you were inspired by the Nantucket Briar scent from Crabtree and Evelyn. Love that packaging! And the scent is fabulous too.

Your wall color is fantastic. I have a similar color in my bedroom. I thought it was a bit dark but with white accents I think it will look great. It's still a work in progress.

Beautiful job on your bathroom Cindy! I think the painted sea shell would be a good idea. But since it is made of metal you could glue the shell or shells on a magnet and that way you can easily change it out? I am going to try to make over my bathroom too-soon as I finish up a few other projects-thanks for the inspiration-have a good rest of your week~Smiles~Tam!

Alicia said...

Monogram...I think if you go for the shell it ends up being too beachy...plus that way when you move it into another room...which I know you someday will :), it'll fit in just fine.
Yes I think a beautiful C would work...definitely in blue!!

Cindy - I just love your creativeness. I can't wait to see the finished bathroom. I had the same dilemma when I was a single mom. That's when I started collecting "B's" - my first initial and also that of my son. Thank goodness I remarried a "B" also. LOL

If you get a chance, stop by my blog and look at my moss-covered inital. Maybe you could cover a small "C" in beach sand, and then glue tiny little shells at one corner, etc. Also, look in the scrapbooking area. Martha Stewart has a great line and I use her scrapping products all the time for crafts, etc. Good luck - whatever you decide it will be beautiful!!!
Hugs, Barb

Cindy, It is looking so beautiful! I love the color you chose. So peaceful. Didn't you use to have your monogram for My Romantic Home on the top of your blog a while back? That would be pretty monogramed on your shelf. You have given me the inspiration to tackle my guest bathroom. I want to get in there right now and start but I have to have the floor replaced first.
