I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! I planned to post yesterday to wish everyone a Merry Christmas but I was so exhausted so I took it really easy and even took an afternoon nap which is something I never do! This morning I felt so much better and hit the road early to shop! First I drove over the hill to the Santa Cruz Flea Market and then on my way back I stopped by Vintage & Vogue to buy some 1/2 price Christmas things. I bought the 3 ornaments and the glittered deer above, all for $20 .
And....(drumroll) this is what I bought at the flea market! A gorgeous old hand-carved mirror for $30! It's missing some of the mirrors and I'm hoping it's not going to be too expensive to replace those. I'm going to paint it antique-white (of course) and hang it above my sofa, maybe with some plates hanging above it. (I have it sitting on top of the sofa in the photo) I'm also considering painting it and putting fabric where the mirror should be and using it for a headboard in Lauren's room. The vendor had another one which was larger than this for $35 and she said I could have both for $50 but that large one would never have fit in my car! I barely got this one in!
Here's a close up of the top...
Here's a close up of the top...
Update: I put it on top of Lauren's full-size bed and it's too long for a headboard so then I put it on my Queen-size bed and it's too long for that also. It would probably fit a King-size bed which we don't have! I guess it will be going over the sofa!

Next time wrap the mirror with something to protect it and place on top of your car--i have tried this and it works--all you have to do is run the rope through the windows and over the mirror and tie. I know it sounds crazy---I quess i'm a little crazy when comes to a great buy and transporting home

Cindy, Love your new ornaments and the mirror is the best find! I have one that is similar over my couch. Someone I knew was actually going to throw it away. It was shiny gold and I painted it antique white and antiqued it. I get so many complements on that mirror. I can't wait to see it in place! I know you'll show us! Hope you had a great Christmas.
You really hit the jackpot with this great find. I believe you'll treasure it forever.
QUESTION: I'm trying to find the photos of your friends' home. It was a while back.... on your blog....
Thanks
Cindy, the mirror/frame is beautiful! I was thinking maybe you could replace the mirrors with plain glass and spray paint the back side of the glass silver and black, splotchy like, to look like an aged mirror. Or you could use mirror squares (again, "aged" from the back side) and fit them together. Then use a brass tack or upholstery tack at each spot where the mirror squares meet. Have you seen that look?
Martha...I think you might be talking about Debbie's home? Those are from Oct 2007 and Nov 2007. If you look in my archives you should be able to find those posts. She was also featured in a couple issues of Romantic Country Magazine.
Jeanne: Thanks, those are good ideas and that would keep the price down!
Hi Cindy! I would love to find one of those to use as a headboard! Beautiful! It will look great above your sofa with the mirrors replaced! The ornaments are very pretty too!
Karin
Cindy, it is beautiful!!!
I hope that you and your family had a wonderful and Merry Christmas!
Blessings,
Melissa
Wow, Lucky you! What a find. Can't wait to see it painted.
Wow, this is really beautiful Cindy! I can just picture it painted white with blue and white toile inside those formerly mirrored sections.
Blessings,
Sher
Ohhhhhhhhhh how very cool that is!!!
Can't wait to see the finished product.
M ^..^
This is absolutely "gorgeous"!!!
Great find.. hugs ~lynne~
This is going to be awesome, no matter where you put it!
Oh, what a beauty--I love your idea of putting it over your sofa with plates.
I think no matter what you do with it - it will be picture perfect. I love both ideas. Its too bad about the other frame. I know you are sick over having to leave it behind. I can't wait to see what you do with this one. Its a keeper for sure!
What a great find. It will be beautiful anywhere.
Yes you sure do find the most spectacular deals. I want to tag along with you next time. I bring a truck! lol
Please stop by, I have a suprise for you.

I am coming to Santa Cruz soon. don't know if I'll have time to meet you but I am so excited and can't wait for a dose of my old stompin grounds!
Wow you were in the right place at the right time for that mirror. I do hope your able to find mirrors to place in it, it will look so pretty once you get it complete and hung.
Well done you.....
The mirror is absolutely beautiful. I hope it's not too much for you to get mirrors in it. It will be perfect above your sofa. I will be gorgeous when you're finished.
Wonderful find. I like the idea of adding fabric to it!
It will look beautiful over your sofa!
Cindy, the mirror is spectacular. Can't wait to see it on the wall.

Hi Cindy,
If you find the mirrors are too pricey to replace, you could have an artist come in and paint some kind of still life on the back of the mirror. You can find really good (and cheap) artists at your local high school. Just check with the art teacher and ask for her most talented student. I envision some kind of teapot (blue and white, of course) with roses and a cup and saucer. That would be for the center panel - perhaps it wouldn't be too costly to replace the other side mirror. Or you could create a vignette and have her (or him) paint that on the panel. Just some ideas. I absolutely LOVE this find!!!
Blessings,
Trish
Next time call me and I'll bring my big ole truck! :)
This is a gorgeous piece...it will look great once you finish it...great find.
I think it will look fabulous over the sofa with plates. Knowing you, you'll have it done in no time.
Hugs,
LeAnn:)
That is absolutely gorgeous!!! Can't wait to see it all done... I had a large frame I wanted to put a mirror in, so I just found a mirror at a garage sale for $2(could be a thrift store...) and took it to a glass shop so they could cut it... It only cost me $6 for the cut!
Isabel
The mirror is so beautiful, can't wait to see you transform it, in to another lovely piece in your home.
I am with Sue, strap that sucker to the car one way or another! It is like the guys do when they hunt, putting the deer or elk head on the front bumper. Well we have to do the same when we "hunt" and find treasures, which looks like you are GREAT! at. Enjoy, I look forward to seeing what you do with it, I love the above the sofa idea.
Wish I could even get out to after Christmas shop. I did do a few things on line, some good deals to be had there too.
Love the 1/2 price sales ~ great ornies you found. And I really love the mirror.
Big TX Hugs,
Stephanie

Beautiful piece.
Merry Christmas to you and your family, lovely finds from the market.
Thanks for all your fun blog posts, always something inspirational going on here.
Cindy, This is going to be beautiful when you get finished with it. It would look gorgeous with blue and white toile padded fabric where the side mirrors go and put a mirror in the middle. Mirrors make rooms look so much larger. It will look beautiful over your sofa. I bought a large mirror frame at an auction a couple of years ago and still haven't done anything with it. It is a beautiful frame and very large. I primed it white and thats as far as I got. I know it will be expensive to replace the mirror...I guess that is why I keep putting it off. Maybe when I see yours finished, I will get motivated. I can't wait to see yours finished! I love your ornaments too. Very pretty.
Hugs,
Lee Laurie
I'LL BET IT WOULD BE WIDE ENOUGH TO LOOK JUST RIGHT OVER THE BATH TUB!
Cindy,
Just beautiful! See if you can find a mirror at a thrift store or Wal Marts. Then mark the back of the mirror, by placing it against the back of furnture and using thin black marker. I did this and glass company only charged me $5.00 to cut. I did not have as many curves s yours, but having the mirror and tracing it for them will save you Money : )
....OH, AND WHILE IT'S OVER YOUR BUBBLE BATH, CANDLES GLOWING WOULD REALLY BE ROMANTIC!
Way to go Cindy!! That is one lucky mirror that it is now living at your beautiful home...it will be Cinderella now instead of one of the ugly stepsisters...LOL
Happy New Year, ;-) Bo
WOW!! What great finds! I love the carvings on the mirror. I am sure that it will look absolutely beautiful in your home!
When you get your new cottage make sure you get a flea market truck to go with it. Love your new find.
What a Romantic & Beautiful find!!
Beautiful - Beautiful!!
Happy New Year to You !!
Marilyn
You always find the best things! You could probably make a good living selling your antique and flea market finds.

Fabulous finds! I can't wait to see the mirror after it's had "The Cindy Treatment"!!!
The antique mirror is gorgeous Cindy and would look wonderful over your couch. I can hardly wait to see what you do with it, as I know it will be incredible in your creative hands. xoxo
Such lovely things you've bought. Hope you have a nice Saturday.
Love Elzie
Hi Cindy,
Great finds, once again! I can't wait to see it over your sofa.
Blessings,
Sandi
Cindy, You really need to start carring an old blanket and straps for your car. You could have bought the 50$ mirror, worked your magic on it and sold it for tons more! I love this mirror and it should not be expenive to fix. Maybe you could find an older aged mirror and have it cut to fit. It might look funny if you have a brand spanking new mirro on just one part of it.
I can't wait to see what your solution is....it's a beautiful mirror, perfect for your home!
... May we go treasure hunting together, sometimes???;)Your finds are absolutely incredible!!!!! Lucky girl!
Can't wait to see it white (naturally!).
Monica.
Cindy, that is gorgeous! I can't wait to see it all shabbied up and hanging above your sofa!
Wow! It's much longer than it looks in the photo. It would be so beautiful as a headboard.
I love the idea of using the cloth to replace the side mirrors.
Can't wait to see how it will look. Get busy, lady!
You need to open an etsy store or do ebay.
~elaine~
Cindy, Absolutely love the mirror frame and wish I had the one for the king sized bed. I used to live in Los Gatos (6 1/2 yrs ago) and went to Ken's Mirror and Glass over by the SJ Fair Grounds for mirror as it was so much cheaper than LG. I don't know if it is still there as I have been living in SAmerica for the past 5 years. Just an idea for you. ADS
That is a gorgeous mirror. I am looking forward to seeing a picture of it painted and hanging over your sofa.
Gorgeous finds! You have great luck girl! That would make a beautiful headboard!!!
Happy New Year!~Smiles~Tam!
What would be really cool would be to cover the places where the mirrors are supposed to be with fabric like you said and then hang the plates inside the pannels
I totally want to go to the flea market one of these times, please?!?!?! Looks like SO much fun! I love that mirror. Truly.
Oh Cindy you hit the Mother lode again girl..and that mirror is so pretty and I can just see it when you get done with it..hugs and smiles Gloria
I am soooo jealous! Aren't you the lucky one!

Glad you had a fun and profitable shopping trip! Sincerely, Jeannette - Happy New Year too!
I think the headboard idea is great. What a wonderful find!
Honey, that's why you need a SUV like I have. Then you can fit most anything in it you come across! (Also wanted to tell you I'm having trouble with my computer crashing again when I hit on your site via Google Reader. Doesn't seem to happen if I go straight to your blog...)
Brenda

Hi Cindy~
The mirror is so gorgeous! You got a fabulous deal on it, too! I can't wait to see it when you have finished painting it. :) Have a great night! :)
Oh my gosh - I think I might have hyperventilated and passed out if I'd seen a mirror like that for $30.00 !
You're so lucky in the States to have Flea Markets like that.
That mirror would probably be $150.00+ at an antique store up here in Canada.
Can't wait to see it painted !
Cheers,
Bre

Your after Christmas shopping was better than mine. That is the most beautiful mirror and I LOVE the idea of using it for a headboard. So sorry that it is too big. Please show pictures when you fix it all up.
What a fabulous find in that frame!! I know it will be beautiful where ever it ends up!!
Am enjoying reading everyone's year in review also- we were traveling so guess I will have to wait till next year to join in!

Cindy,
I have been looking at your blog for about a month now. It really does inspire me and gives me a lift during some of the drab days of late.
I love the teapot but the book would be great to look at too.
I have no blog but have been thinking about starting one. Just do not think I have the time to keep it up.
my email address is: lcs.6@hotmail.com
Happy New Year Cindy!
Finally getting to catch up with you since the holidays...whew!
WOW... what pretties you have shared. What a bummer this mirror was too large for a bed... a tufted headboard was my first impression! Mine was a king too, I acutally cut parts off and it still hangs over a tad, but I just throw more pillows on to hide it, lol!
Your year in review was great. I wish I had the time to visit everyone, but I have seen many.
OH! And I finally got to watch you one HGTV! My mom had taped it for me. SO cool for you, it was neat to hear your vioce. You didn't sound like I expected tho... which I don't even know what that would be, ha! You talk more like I do, and I expected a higher voice for some reason.
The tassels are great..
and I LOVE those faux chocolate bunnies!!! Gotta get me some!
Thanks for sharing everything with us, and for sending warm weather thoughts... it was -2 here this morning and then it warmed up to a big fat 0, lol!
