The Birdhouse Table

Pin It Now!

I had to shuffle around some furniture to make room for the new cabinet I showed you yesterday...I moved my birdhouse table to the corner of my living room. It looked like it needed a little color over there so I brought my big birdcage I had in my bedroom downstairs. It still looks a little bare to me so I may end up adding something on that wall. I have a big ficus tree that I moved outside for awhile...I may bring that back in and put it in the corner. Maybe I'll just leave it alone for awhile. I got some negative comments and emails about the new look of my blog. I was really surprised that some people didn't like it but I think I was more surprised that so many people actually told me they didn't like it. It caught me a little off guard. I started to think about it and I guess that's a good thing that people feel they can be honest with me. I know the comments weren't meant to be mean and I didn't take it that way at all. It's almost like having a good friend...the kind of friend that will tell you you have dried food on your face when you know a million people had already seen it not said anything. I value your opinions and luckily I'm at an age now where I don't feel the need to please everyone. I really love it and it reflects my style which is what a blog should do in my opinion.

I did have a couple people tell me they don't see the blue background, only white so I wanted to show you what it should look like. If it doesn't look like this to you please leave a comment and let me know.
I have some chairs to paint this weekend and I'm hoping it cools down. It was 99 degrees yesterday and it's supposed to be that hot again today!
Have a good weekend! See you on Monday!

Cindy, I was surprised myself to read that so many didn't care for your blog's new look because when it first came up for me I thought "how soft and elegant"! I adore the pattern and the gold adds just the right touch. Oh well, ...Viva la difference. Anyway, I love the new piece you just finished and it goes so well with the dining chairs and table. Everything you accomplish in your decor looks so lovely! Stay cool! :) Suesue

Well, I don't care how close your readers feel they are to you; I think it's RUDE to share a negative opinion about someone's blog--when NO ONE asked them!

Besides, people must be BLIND to not see how tasteful, elegant, refreshing this new background is. It's perfect!! Infact, one of my friends who gets to your blog through my page even commented to me how much she liked it.

Have a great weekend!!

Hi Cindy,
What a cute birdhouse table. I don't know that I ever spotted it when looking at your home photos.
It looks great in the corner.
I heard it said once that you may have 20 people tell you that something is wonderful and just one say something bad and it seems to be the one we hear. So hear me my very talented friend. You are good at every thing you put your hand to. Your blog is a favorite of how many people now.
Like a million?
Keep the beauty flowing.

Hello, Cindy... I love your new look! So romantic. I've seen Amber's work and she does a beautiful job!

Cindy, my sweet romantic chick, I think it's elegant and prefer it much better than the old one. The gal who designed it captured you perfectly, honey. Well, I think so anyway. I see it all as it should be and if they aren't then it's the browser they are using.

I don't know how you get so much in that apartment, sweetpea. I'm having a hard time getting all my stuff into mine and it's a HOUSE!

Yep, daughter said it's hot down there this past week. A/C in the bay area?!?!?! Yep, they had to go out and buy a small unit for the bedroom. Tooooo hot to sleep. Unbelievable.

Cindy,

I say as long as you love your new blog look who cares what anyone else things. People just don't like change. Your other blog was very pretty and people just got used to that one.

You can't please everyone and yes I have found that when asked and sometimes even when we don't ask people in blogland will speak up and tell you what they really think. I've been told many times to change my blog. I'm happy with it so that's all that matters.

Your birdhouse looks cute there. It would look cute no matter where you put it.

Hugs,
Joanne

Well as you said, you are at an age that you feel comfortable in your choices. And if you had to please everyone, we'd have to lock you away because you would be out of your head.

I like the look of the blog, and it's not up to others. It has your colors and it's not over the top which is probably your personality anyway.

I see the background just fine. I am on a mac.

I think when people see the content rather than the appearance they will get use to it.

So dearie, just do what you love and forget about the rest..

Have a wonderful weekend.

I think your blog's new look is wonderful! Everything about it is lovely....portraying your personality and your style perfectly! An excellent move!
I'm sad that you even had to give a moment's thought to the comments from those few readers who felt compelled to share their negative feedback. Take it from the rest of us......BRAVO!

I like the new design - it's not so busy and it's soft and pretty. I see the blue just fine.

The birdhouse table looks good in that corner - I don't know how you fit so much furniture into your space! How much square footage is that floor?

I am in agreememt with 'Annonymous' a couple of comments up there in her reply to poster Angela. Cindy ASKED our opinion and so here is mine...

I think in the blog world, the trick is to get other bloggers to check in and comment on your blog, so of course viewers are going to say it looks nice! They are also probably going to say this to make their own blog look more appealing.

Reason being--- Have you ever shopped at a high end store and the sales lady says "It's you" when it's really not.. just to make your sale?

Well honey, honestly I don't like it and I wont lie like others to get your approval for a blog comment. The way I see it now- you will get the same readers viewing but not so many newcomers because let's face it... it has a cookie cutter look that anyone could have. Your hydranges border was welcoming that grabbed you. You need something personal about your home that speaks soft romance like the flowers did.

There are alot of pretty and very personal blogs out there in the blog world that draw others in. When you open the your blog now, the scribbly inscripted circle is there but the rest of the page is blank while loading which is not inviting. Also, the writing is too hard to read. Who ever designed this page could have used a much more elegant font because this font is anything but "elegant" now. Just my 4 cents since you had asked.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Raylene

My goodness, so many opinions, I think it is very pretty and I also think that some people just don't like change and it takes them a while to adjust to it. It was like an old friend and people were used to it the way it was. I hope you love your new look because that is what counts!!

Maybe they were just surprised that you had a new look. Caught them off guard, you know? Either way, people shouldn't say anything that isn't nice -- didn't their mother's tell them when they were young? Change is good. Besides, it's your blog and it should reflect YOUR taste and style. Are you happy with it? Yes? Then that's all that matters. Are they really looking at your blog because of the new heading? I don't think so. Tell them to GET OVER IT!!! I, for one, so look forward to your blog -- no matter what's on the top. Joanne ~~ glamourgirljoanne@yahoo.com

I still think the old saying, "If you can't say something nice, don't say it." We do the things we do because WE like them. If someone doesn't, they should just be quiet. Can't please everyone. It is quietly and simply elegant, I think.
Where did you get the throw that covers the chair next to the darling bird table? I have a chair I hate that needs to be covered until something better takes it's place. Would appreciate a tip on where to look for something similiar. Keep doing what you do!!!!

I think your new blog layout is just beautiful, and I think we know you well enough to realize you will be decorating it from time to time. The blue is beautiful, and I love the design on the sides. That would be a pretty wallpaper to hang!

I am hoping to redecorate a room for my girls to share, and I found princess panel beds that I love from Havertys (http://www.havertys.com/Product_19720?curIndex=16&resultCount=17). They are nearly $500 each, though, and my husband flatly refused when I told him what I had found. He has encouraged me that often I do my most creative work when I don't have much to spend and rework things that we have.

I would have to agree, but sometimes I want to just find what I want and get it.

But looking at your blog, I feel confident you could achieve this look without spending so much. If you have any ideas for how I could achieve the look of those beds, I would really appreciate it.

I love the new look -- but I'm not seeing the blue periphery, so I thought I'd let you know. I check your blog when I get home every nite fron work to see what new project you can inspire me with! I love cottage and country, so I have blended the 2 nicely (bath and bedroom are chippy cottage, kitchen, dining & living room country.) The 2 styles can really blend well as long as the overall look is soft and cozy. Anyway, love the blog, and love the new look of it.I am in Philly and it's in the 90's here also (so much for fall) and we're waiting for the remnants of the hurricane which will prevent any flea markets tomorrow!

I'm glad that you don't worry about how other people think about something that is as personal to you as the look of your blog. It is something that comes with age, and I only say this because we are about the same age, lol. That being said, I do love the blue and the elegance of the new look.

Honestly, I loved the OLD one and people hate change, so that may be the issue.
Let's face it....What we all like is SO subjective. If it wasn't there would be NO good finds at the goodwill, since we would all get the same things.
I think there is some familiarity within the blog community and some family members have to give their opinions more strongly than others. :-D
I, for one, think your background matters alot less than your content, and I was telling someone today bout "Cindy" and described you as my "Fairy Blogmother" b/c it was YOUR blog that got me encouraged to do MINE and to get out the white paint MORE.
I could never keep up with all your stuff, but I realized from reading I could do 'little projects' that made me very happy.
Thanks!

I have stayed in the wings until now, however I do feel the need to weight in my opinions in support of your courage to reinvent yourself and not allow yourself to be pigeonholed. I celebrate this, we blog because we love it, it becomes and opportunity to share a piece of ourselves and contribute, along they way we hope to meet new friends and create associations that support what we find to be important, however if we can't be ourselves in cyberspace, Then where? To actually be able to enjoy the rooms that we create. Sometimes my house surprises me now! I will walk into a room and think, "Oh, it's so pretty in here!" LOL! I think it's staying nicer now that the ex is gone or maybe I can just enjoy it now!

I love your new blog and what you did with the changes in your living room. I think your hutch came out beautiful, and the light shinning through is so elegant!!!

Thanks so much!

Wait a minute....whose blog is this?...yours. It really doesn't matter as long as you like it. I thought the first time I "blogged in" I was at another place, but when I read, I knew it was you. I'm just jealous that you are living in a place where you can find so many inexpensive items to decorate with. We don't have place like that here where I live. Just ignore negative comments...and ship me the stuff you no longer want...LOL LOL

Cindy...I don't think I have ever commented or maybe I did once , but I love to read your blog every day! It is one of the first ones I scoot over to every day. I confess...I am a lurker too! :)

Question...do you paint all this furniture with a brush or do you spray it?? I want to paint a desk and a pie safe white, but I wondered which to go. Thanks so much!
Sandi

PS I don't care what your blog looks like I will still read it! :) I did love the old one, but it it always nice for a change... just like we change our furniture and houses around periodically. Change can be a GOOD thing too! Hugs!

Love the birdhouse table. My husband made me a birdhouse bench that I wish that I had held on to.

Sandi,

Over on the left you will see "My Technique for Painting Furniture" If you click on that or even the headboard below it, it will take you to my step by step instructions on how I paint my furniture. ~Cindy

Cindy,

At the risk of being called rude and, since you did ask, I'll just say that I absolutely adored your old blog banner. In all the countless times that I opened your blog, I was struck every time with how perfectly beautiful those hydrangeas were, how utterly saturated with my favorite shade of blue! I'll miss them.

Your new armoire is so beautiful! I love it!

Cindy,

Your new look is fantastic, I love love love it, it's got everything that I love, the right blue colour, the background is especially great. Your apartment is getting really full, but hey, it's full of things you love and treasure, and they are all lovely pieces.

Cindy,

I have always wanted one of those birdhouse tables. It looks so pretty in your room. I love the cabinet too, it looks like the one I have in my living room, it has my t.v. in it.

Thank you for your sweet words on my blog about my upcoming feature in CV.

Can't believe that people left you negative comments about your new blog. I haven't visited in a few weeks so when I opened up your blog I was refreshingly surprised. I think it captures your style perfectly - very elegant and pretty.

I think the new look is elegant and suites your style well. It is your blog after all and you can make it look any way you wish. One favor? Just don't stop writing on your blog as it is my daily indulgence I wouldn't want to do without.

Hi Cindy, Oh so maaanny opinions but I think the general consensous is : Your blog is as lovely as your home and it has been done in the same spirit. I never saw the old one so as far as I am concerned this so speaks well of your style. I will be a frequent visitor. Thankyou for the visit to my vintage bath on rms. If you hadn't come for a visit I don't think I would have found this great blog. smiles kathysue

Even though your blue background doesn't show up on my screen I sitll love your new look!

And to those of you who can't play nice - please don't ruin everyone else's fun by leaving rude comments.

I don't get to your blog often, but today immediately was struck by the gorgeous design and color of the blue and white "wallpaper" on the sides. Is that actually from a pattern available commercially? I've been looking for something like that, both in color and design.

I'm sorry you're hearing negative comments. I've always thought that if you're designing something with the sole intent of selling it, you would be wise to consider opinions to be able to design your item to have a broad appeal. But if your blog is an expression of you, soak in all of the positive comments and let the other readers find blogs that have more appeal for them.

The birdhouse table is cute, but esp. with the bird cage on top.

Wow... I can't believe people would tell you they didn't like your new layout! Surely they just weren't seeing the whole thing.

It's perfect.

i just love the birdhouse table. i first saw them in a Penny's catalog. my husband, who is a carpenter, says furniture making is different from remodeling. do you have a pattern on the dimensions of your table?

Hi Bonny, No I don't have a pattern for it. My dad made it many years ago!
