I did a cheese server (Click Here) back in Feb. 2007 and thought I would try another one of these easy pedestal dish projects. I started with a candlestick, a clear glass plate and a cheese dome. I bet you could find all these items at almost any thrift store you walk in to and you probably wouldn't have to spend more that $3.00 total. The cheese dome usually comes with a wood plate which you could save and use for another project or use it for firewood! I haven't glued these together yet because I heard there is a special glue for glass that glass artists use. I would like to find some of that. It's a very easy project and it looks very elegant!

I've been collecting some cheese domes and candlesticks just for this project, but I'm not sure what glue to use. I want to make them for Christmas gifts along with cookies or fudge.
Please post the name of the glue used for glass when you find it.

How funny, I just bought a domed cake stand the other day!
Wonderful project and something I'm certainly going to keep in mind in the future. (Can't ever have too many cake stands!)
The stand I bought can double as a punch or trifle bowl simply by flipping both pieces and putting the handle of the dome into the leg of the base.
Do you think this project could do that as well?

I made some bridal shower decorations using glass and found some glue at Michaels. Can't remember the name of it, but it was in a tube in the glue section (the clerks would know I think) and it worked perfectly. It was very strong glue!!!

Cindy, I'm not that adept with this attachment stuff. But I recalled seeing on some woman's blog how she glued these. Remembered it had the word "farmer's wife" in the blog name. So I googled and found her. In June archives, she did this tutorial on it. I'm going to try and email it to you.

I do this all the time with little china plates and domes purchased for a dollar or two at thrift stores. There are some on my blog if you'd like to see how cute they turned out. Plus I'm gonna paint my dining table and headboard and bedroom furniture soon.........white........squeeeeal!!! I can hardly wait!!!!!

The glue you would use is two-part epoxy glue.

Now why didn't I think of that!! This is how I made my candle holders for my wedding only with bowls, but using the plate and dome is SO clever! I'm going to be searching for the right plate now... Thanks!

Hi, Cindy! I have seen this done and want to make one too! They are so precious. I've been thinking of you today. I found a cute little 'secretary' looking cabinet and bot it. It was a maple color, so I sanded it, primed it and now am painting it. One more coat to go! You may not like it - I'm not painting it white! but a burgandy looking red. I'll post it when I finish. I bought a candlestick yesterday and will be going to thrift stores today to get the other pieces. I love this idea!
I make these with clear glass dinner and dessert plates from the flea market. I pick up domes at Estate Sales and have several on my sideboard. I use clear glue from Hobby Lobby or Wal Mart. It is E-6000, Industrial Strength Craft Adhesive. It dries quickly, holds fast, is clear and you can hand wash the items with no trouble. A large tube was about $3.50 and I have made several pieces and still have over half a tube left. (I also use this glue for repair on bisque porcelain, wood, and some plastics.)

p.s. My best find on the cheese covers was one with my monogram etched in it! How lucky was that?!
