Way back on July 31, 2007 I did a post about this crystal jar (from Tuesday Mornings) that I keep lemon drops in. I got a nice email from Diane who told me about a wonderful children's book called The Lemon Drop Jar by Christine Widman. I went right to Amazon to look at it but because it was out of print it was selling for $53 - $99. I never bought it but recently I got a comment from some nice person in Malaysia (I can't find her comment now or I would mention her name). She was reading back in my old posts and looked the book up on Amazon and told me there were two copies for about $8.00 each!!! I bought a copy right away! It's a wonderful book and I'm going to keep it because some day I will hopefully have grandchildren that I can read it to.
Look at the adorable kitchen...with blue and white plates!
And the beautiful chintz dishes...this book is so me!!!
If it weren't for blogging I would never know about this wonderful book. A big thanks to both of you who left comments about this book!
I was going to link to Amazon for the descripton of the book but their website seems to be down. When I bought mine there were some listed at $150.00 each!

OH! Cindy that is so great!! I love that kitchen also. I may have to get a lemon drop jar for my grandchildren. That kitchen is so neat. I always wanted a kitchen like that.

Don't you just love those little serendipitous experiences?!?!?! I always buy the "used books" on Amazon.....waaaaaayyyyyy cheaper.
Smoochies,
Connie
I think we are living in a golden age for children's literature. There is so much wonderful illustration out there. The book looks fabulous -- congratulations on finding it! Alibris.com is also a great resource for used books.

Cindy,
Wow, what a great find! this book is perfect for you and your lemon drop jar. What a nice thing to be able to share with your future grandchildren!
Your table looks beautiful even just primed. I liked the other one, but this is much more feminine, and I love the curves. I can't wait to see it finished with the cushions on it.
What a perfect connection. It does look like it was written just for you.
I am so getting a lemon drop jar. I love all the great ideas everyone shares in the blog world!
How great Cindy!!
Blogging is a wonderful thing.

Having special books to read to your grandchildren is the best. When my Grandbaby was born her Daddy, and Aunt made sure that I had all of their childhood favorites to read to her. She is almost 3 now and her favorite books sit on proud display in my living room so they are easy for her to grab and bring to me to read.
I love the new table and chairs. I vote for the carvings. I was in Marshalls today (thanks to you and your blog) and saw a chair there with simialr lines to yours. It had carvings on it at the top of the back and across the apron on the seat. Looked great!

Cindy,
Now I'll be looking for this in the thrift shops. This looks like a book I'd like to have. Funny isn't that a book could have your decorating style.
I bet it's hot down there. It's hot here. It's been in the mid 90's. HOT,HOT,HOT.
And lemon gumdrops are a favorite of mine too.
Ciao

How fun for you! Congrats on finding the book and so reasonably priced too!
Don't you just love those older books. So many from my childhood that I wish I had back!! Love the new table and chairs. Can't wait to see the new seats on the chairs.
Ohh I would have died if I found that book for $8! I am a total book hoarder and would love to get my little hands on that one!!
Oh, I need a lemon drop jar. When my first born was potty training, we rewarded her with lemon drops. Well one day her Papa was in the bathroom, and she could hear him tinkle through the door. When he came out of the bathroom she delighted with "dood dirl Papa, you want a memon drop?!" Translated- good girl Papa, you want a lemon drop. She is now 30 and a mama, and that is such a cute and fond memory for me, I can't think of lemon drops, but that comes to mind.
Your dining set looks great, and is soooo you.

What a cute book! Love your new dining room.
Hi Cindy,
That book looks so comfy, cozy. I would have loved that one when I was a little girl! Well I like it now too! What a good find.

Wow! So nice you found the book and at such a bargain price too. Lemon drops make me think of my mother. She used to always have lemon drops in her purse. When we would be in the car going someplace, she would ask "Anyone want a lemon drop?"
Cindy there are some wonderful people out there in Blogland.
Alison
What a GREAT find! How lucky is that? Thanks for sharing, that is a wonderful story!
What an awesome story! I believe if we are meant to have something and are patient that we will find it at our price. The book's illustrations seem to have been drawn just for you! Lemon drops bring back memories of childhood. Thanks for your always beautiful, interesting posts!ksarra
I remember when you posted about the lemon jar and the book. I'm so glad you found a copy. I buy used books all the time on Amazon or Barnes & Noble. You can get some really good deals. I'm so happy for you, it looks like a neat book.
What an adorable book. I'm so glad you found it!

Oh, I LOVE children's books!!! We have such a huge collection from when my girls were small. That's one thing I never skimped on. That looks like a great one, Cindy! Isn't 'blog-land' wonderful?? ...Donna
How wonderful that you were able to get the book at a reasonable price.
It looks very sweet.

Don't you just love when the blogging world brings people together like that?! I think that's so cool that it was someone from so far away from where we live that you connected with about the book, too! I also love this book!!

Hi Cindy..
Am so glad that you finally bought the book. It was me who left you a comment on the book. :-) and happy to help you again, anytime..
I love, love, love reading your blog and you inspire me to do something nice for my home too.. my day wouldn't complete if I didn't read your blog..
have a nice day.
My daughter does a great job of finding the perfect books for my granddaughter. I'm not familiar with the book that you bought, but it does look like it's a good one for you.
My favorite is The Giving Tree. Everyone should read that book.
Hi Cindy! My gosh, you are so right, that book is meant for you!!! I love your lemon drop jar too. Have a lovely day. ~ xoxo ~ Joy ~ P.S. Everytime I see a commercial on HGTV for the new Rate My Space show, I immediatly think of you and I bet women all over the country think of you too at that exact moment :)
Congratulations on getting the book at that price. I've wanted one, but each time I've looked they were way out of my price range. I'll have to check again. My Grandmother always had a candy dish full of lemon drops and I usually do too---so that's my connection to this book. I know I'd love it too.
Hi Cindy
What a precious book. I'm going to keep my eyes open for one. What a ridiculous price on Amazon!
Hugs, Rhondi
