Okay Shari, this is for you... Shari asked for more details about the HGTV shoot. I would love to be able to tell you everything but for obvious reasons I can't. I think I'm safe just giving you a few minor details about the day. Dan arrived at 10:30 am and surprisingly I wasn't very nervous. He came in and started setting up right away.
Once I was in front of the camera I started to get a little nervous but decorating is my passion so it's probably one of the easiest things for me to talk about so it didn't take too long for me to relax a bit. I noticed at first that when I spoke my hands were down at my side and then part way through when I started to relax my hands were moving everywhere! I hope they aren't flying around too much when I see the show!
Next thing I know it's lunch time and I made us some turkey sandwiches on sourdough bread. Then back to work to shoot some more. Only my downstairs living area was filmed. I told you that I decided not to set the table after all but you can see in these photos what I did. I just put shells in my tiered dish and two sets of crystal candlesticks. I added some small shells around one of the candles. (Last weekend, after the shoot, I moved my table parallel to the hutch. I sure wish I would have done that before the shoot. I think I like it better this way.) I think it was about 3:30 when we finished and Dan left for the airport and I went to pick up Beau at the kennel! Poor Beau he does not like going there at all!
I also wanted to thank all of you who rated me a couple weeks ago on Delightful Blogs. The comments didn't show up then but I went there yesterday and I couldn't believe all the wonderful comments! I had so much fun reading those last night! Wow you guys are incredibly nice! One comment cracked me up...she was referring to all the white I have in my home and she said "Honestly, if I was living in her home, I would feel like an eskimo in an igloo" To me, my home doesn't feel cold at all. I guess it's all a matter of personal taste.
One last thing...every time I post pictures of this tiered dish I get a ton of emails asking where I got it. My mom bought this at a shop in Disneyland when I was little, maybe 7 or 8 years old. I still remember her buying it and I'm sure if I went to Disneyland I would be able to point out the shop. It was in the New Orleans area on a corner. It was filled with ceramic lemons and I remember my mom and the sales lady removing them. I'm amazed how vivid my memory of this is but even at that young age I appreciated the beauty of this piece. That was 40 years ago and my mom paid about $100 which was a lot of money back then. It was made in Italy. This piece was always in our dining room when I was growing up, either on the buffet or as a centerpiece on the dining table. A few years back, out of the blue, my mom gave it to me for my birthday. I was so shocked! It's one of my favorite things in my home and has so much sentimental value.

You are so brave to have done it!!!
I would just die a thousands deaths
to be infront of a camera! I'll bet they got a lot of other ideas when they saw your whole apt!!!!!!!
Thx for the details.
M ^..^
Your house is anything but cold! It is really beautiful and inviting!
The table looks perfect!!!!
I can appreciate all styles and
personal tastes but your home is
far from being cold. It is so warm,
happy and welcoming to me.
How about a nice photo of the new table placement.
By the way, I am the one who photoshopped the tv cabinet for you and the real thing turned out beautifully. You did an amazing job!
Hi Cindy,
I agree with the comments above, your house is NOT cold! It's beautiful! Your table looks so pretty and I love the story about your tiered dish. Such nice memories.
Kelly
I love your home. It's just beautiful and very inviting. I wish that I would make myself work on my own house. I have so many beautiful things stuffed away in the closets with the ideas in my head. I just seem to never get around to it. But checking out your blog is a great motivator. So maybe someday I'll get it in shape. Thanks for sharing your home with us.
Sharon
Thank you, Cindy!!! :D I realize you can't tell every little thing without spoiling the show but I appreciate your willingness to provide more details. The first post after the filming contained just enough info to whet my curosity and drive me crazy with unanswered questions. Now I think I can wait until the show. I think.
That's so cute that you made Dan a sandwich for lunch! (BTW, he looked adorable...even if he was only slightly older than your son!)
Thanks for sharing! I'm glad to know the history of your tiered server. And the details of your exciting shoot!
I just know you were perfect.
What a wonderful memory about your dish.
Hi Cindy,
Can not wait to see you on HGTV....What an adventure....Everything Looked Fabulous in your pictures you shared.
Hugs,Mo :-)
I love the table with the candlesticks and shells in the little cups. I don't know how I missed this voting thingy, I will have to vote! An eskimo in a igloo?? Far from it. lol!
Hi Cindy,
I loved reading your story behind the tiered dish. I've secretly admired it for a while now and I always find myself looking for something like it when I'm out. I think that it's wonderful that you have it now :) Can't wait to see the show and I'm glad that it went so well.
Hugs,
Dena
Hi Cindy,
Isn't it weird how you warm up to the camera so quickly? I fed the guys too. Funny!!
Love the dish you got from your mom. That was a lot of money back then. By the way, your house seems very warm and inviting to me.
Rosemary
Oh I can't wait to see YOU on HGTV!! I want to see everything in your home...for real!! I am always poppin' in to see what you are up to and I think your home is very warm and inviting!!! igloo smigloo I say!!
That dish from your Mom is so elegant. Wonderful that you remember so much about it and now it is yours!! :)
So proud of you! You did it, and it sounds like you really enjoyed it. Isn't it funny that when we are talking about something we love, it can take us over, and we are not nervous at all? I can't wait to see the finished feature. Please keep us up to date on the details. Amy :)
Hi Cindy, have you thought about keeping you a little journal about your HGTV spot or maybe a scrapbook ? That would be a good keep sake . :0) :0)
I absolutely love that tiered dish! How sweet of your mother to give it to you for your birthday. She must love to see it in your beautiful home, and in all the photos on your blog. I'll bet she loves reading all the compliments you get on it, too.
xoxo,
Mary
I love visiting your blog, I LOVE all the white, so uplifting! It is so fun to "peek" inside other homes, though I live in a log home, and red is mostly my color here, I still enjoy the romantic, cottage look, and love anything vintage, so I am at your blog daily! Thank you for being so inspiring! www.nelliesnest.blogspot.com
Who would have guessed that such a treasure was found at Disneyland of all places! That's such a cool gift.
Sounds like the shoot for the HGTV show was so much fun! Can't wait to see it!
I love the deorated candles, with the crystal bobeches! My favorite!
How wonderful of your Mom to pass that beautiful tiered dish onto you.
How can someone think your home was like an igloo!! You can feel the warmth just looking at it.
Alison
Hi Cindy, I have just been catching up on your blog. Your house is beautiful and I wish I could get to see you on TV!
Cold as in a igoloo..hihi guess the person never has visited all the Scandinavian blogs yet :o)))Really your home is beautiful and elegant in a personal way! I really think you are so brave and I do admire that you were able to relax in front of the camera. Tell you something, in a wonderful shop that I love to visit (and spend money)I saw shells sprayed with glitter and put together with old lace....... it was such a beautiful decoration.
All the best,
Lisbeth
Hi Cindy, I love how you have displayed the seashells! Very pretty...what lovely ideas you give us!
hugs,
Robin
I enjoyed reading about your experience, it sounded like fun (but also bit scary to be on video). I am looking forward to seeing your "spot" on TV!
Judith
I didn't see any blue or white frames in the same style but ya never know what they will get in and I'm sure you know all the stores are a little different.
Hugs, Kelly
Good Morning Cindy, Just look at your wonderful table setting, and the Sea shells, thats one I love baby! Sweet! stop by for a visit sometime check out my facelift! LOL Hugs Diana Lyn
I can't wait to see the show. There is no way your home or your beautiful self could appear bad. As I told you before, visiting your blog gives me the romantic boost I need for I can't have the beauty like you do in your surroundings.
Cindy
Love taking a peek at what will be on HGTV...please let us know when it airs so we can share your moment!
I see white as pristine, cool, and welcoming--it all looks great!
Cindy:
I am so excited to see the show. I am proud to know you and tell my friends that you and your home are being showcased.....you are amazing
Lots of love,
Debbie
I was cracking up over your comment about your hands...I also have "flying" hands syndrom...it really is bad when I am excited about something! Too funny!
It is obvious that your mother has exquisite taste and has passed that gift on to you...you have such a gift for turning simple things into beautiful treasures. What a thoughtful gift the tiered dish was...I am sure it is one of your favorite gifts of all times.
Blessings...
Teresa
If I lived in your house I'd feel like I was in heaven, not an igloo LOL I love the candlesticks and that tiered plate is SO pretty! No cable here, so I probably won't be able to see your show, but I really enjoy the pictures of your house!
Glad you were able to just laugh that not-so-nice eskimo comment off. I had a comment left at my RMS on one of my tablescapes...the poster said, "subtlety isn't your strong point". I had to laugh...and thought...well she is right about that...I've never been accused of being subtle! :-) Love your creativity, and I really admire how you have made such a lovely, cozy home without breaking the bank. Susan
