Thrift Store and Target Finds!

Pin It Now!

I found this little miniature cabinet above for $7 at a Goodwill I stopped in when I was running an errand in another city. It's so adorable. I have no idea what I will do with it but I think I'm going to put it in my bathroom and buy a collection of miniature perfume bottles on eBay. I had a friend once that had a huge collection of miniature perfume bottles (the kind the stores give as samples) and I've always wanted some.
This little house above is actually a mailbox that someone made. The roof lifts up and it's wallpapered and carpeted inside. I also found this at the same Goodwill. I'm going to paint it white with black shutters and put a wood shingle roof on it. I bought some dollhouse shingles at the hobby store. Just what I need ~ another project! HA! At least it's a small project, hopefully this weekend I'll get this done. I'm going to put this on my fence in my patio area to hold my small garden tools.
I found 10 yards of this pom pom trim at the thrift store by my work for only 99 cents! What a deal although I'm not sure what I'm going to use it for so maybe it wasn't such a deal. Maybe I'll trim some throw pillows with it.
For those of you that have a Target nearby, you can find these great cardboard magazine holders in the front of the store for only $1.00 each! They're in the area at the very front of the store as you walk in that has all the cheap junk miscellaneous items. I bought the last 4 at my Target! I think I'll hit a few more Target Stores to see if I can find more. I have so many magazines!

Brilliant finds! I'm loving the little mailbox house! So cute!

Check out what The Nester did with pom-pom trim: http://nestingplacenc.blogspot.com/2008/01/window-mistreatment-101-red-checks.html

Can't wait to see your mailbox when it's finished!

Oh, I can't wait to see the mailbox makeover and such a great use for it--holding garden tools! I would have never thought of that. I might have several small perfume bottles I could send you. I have been known to toss them in the back of my makeup drawer when I think they are too pretty to throw away. I'll check. :)

I love the little cabinet, and the house is so cute. Bet it will be adorable when it's done! I have a little white cabinet like that I found at a garage sale. I put some little miniature flower pots that my mother in law made from qulling and beads. I bet the bottles will look adorable.

Great finds! That mailbox is going to be adorable when you are through and what a great idea you have for using it. The trim is an unbelievable bargain. I have thought myself fortunate when I've been able to find that kind of trim at Walmart .... on sale....for $2/yd...SCORE!!!! Pillows definitely.....or sew it on the edge of a plain throw....

Hi Cindy
Do you ever wonder how do I get so lucky to find the things that I like when I go to the thrift shop. I went to Thrift town yesterday and I found these lovely white doves made in italy and a pretty pink little plate with flowers that I hung on the wall.
Then I went to Ross and found 400 count Egyptian sateen white sheets, and some pretty bathroom hand towels. What a find.
I know that excited feeling you get when you find something that just seems to be made for your to put your touch on.

Have you ever been to one? I should leave my check book at home. I am taking a friend who wants to go and has never been but you never know what I might find.

Now I have to brave the weather and get to Target! I need some for magazines and some for my paperback cookbooks that keep getting buried in the shelf.
That is the sweetest mailbox. Can't wait to see the results of your decorating it.
Don't laugh, two years ago I found a steal like that for pompom fringe and I used it for garland on my Christmas tree. Kids thought Mom had gone off the deep end but it looked great. Perhaps some could be used for the edge of a tablecloth, pillows, pillow cases...

Gotta love you Cindy, you are amazing.

I love the minature cabinet, what a great idea to put miniature perfume bottles in it, I have a collection of bottles that my mother-in-law always brings back from overseas with her for me, I had them sitting on a shelf but they get so dusty, I think I may have to keep an eye out for a cabinet like yours. Thanks for the tip.
Cheers Linda

Cindy- great finds ! I sure wish we could go thrifting together...an extra set of (good) eyes is always helpful.
I have one of those little cabinets in my bathroom. I've been collecting "chopper hopper's" (search ebay for 'chopper hopper' if you don't know what I mean...they are vintage denture holders) for years now - maybe tomorrow I'll take a picture for you !

I'm grateful for the tip on the magazine holders at Target-- there are a number I'd like to keep but prefer not to have in shameful piles. :)

Hi all. I just discovered this site and love it. I also just figured out how to send a post as I am new to blogging. You are all an inspiration. I just got back from my local consignment shop where I found Bennington Potter dishes...something I have wanted for over 20 years. I picked up 5 pieces for $25. Well, I will check in again..you are inspiring me to clean off the clutter on my dining room table.
