Fireflies!

Pin It Now!

I know this is a strange post for the middle of January but I found this on the Victorian Trading Company website. I have never seen a firefly in my life, well not a real one. The only fireflies I've ever seen were in Disneyland on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. When I was little I remember asking my mom when we were on that ride what those blinking lights were. When we got off the ride she told me all about fireflies and how she used to catch them in jars when she was a kid in Pennsylvania. I've been so intrigued by them ever since and I would really love to see one someday. I saw this jar with faux fireflies and thought it was so cute. I may have to buy this! Where do fireflies live? I don't think there are any in California.

Oh I love fireflies! They are so magical. I haven't seen them in so many years. They don't like city life. :)
Thank you for stopping by and leaving your nice notes Cindy.

Backing up a bit....to Susan Branch...I owned a retail store until a year ago....For eight years we sold everything she produced...she signed books at our store "Stuff with Style" on three different occasions.
I say GO...this woman is like nothing you've ever experienced...on my blogspot I have my ebay page hyperlinked and we are auctioning an Autumn book that has been signed by her...also have a myriad of promo stuff that Time Warner used to send us when we were on the itinerary.(coming soon)

She has a memory unlike any other...if you tell her "Stuff with Style" says hello ..she will know exactly who you are referring to.

I almost drove out to her grand opening...but gas prices got in the way.

Susan and I talk about three or four times a year by phone....
Keep me posted....

Oh, fireflies!! A favorite of mine since catching them in jars as a little girl. I grew up in the country and now am blessed to live in the country again (Ohio). At night, when the fields are filled with them, it is one of the most beautiful sights you can imagine! I like to turn the lights off and just look out the front window at thousands of them!

This is my first visit to your blog, but I plan to return. For as long as I can remember, I've been a hopeless romantic. And I enjoy The Victorian Trading Company, as well. For 35 years I lived in the same state as their store, but never visited. Imagine that!! I look forward to your inspiration.

We love going back to Wisconsin every summer and seeing the fireflies in the ditches along the country roads. My kids just went wild when they first saw them! They are so unique... so sparkly fun!

We've got 'em, especially in wooded areas (in addition to swarms of mosquitos and ticks!). We used to do that VARY THANG, catch them in jars in the summertime! My dad said when he was little (in Arkansas) they used to catch 'em and pop them (kill them) and smear the glowy goo all over themselves! Gross! I never did that...must be a boy thing!

What a sweet treasure! That little jar is adorable. I would so love one! I may have to check on it. Love that shop anyway!
We have fire flies here. I grew up catching them and placing them in jars with just the right sized air holes in the lid. It was a magical bit of fun on hot Summer nights for me and my friends.
When I lived in San Diego, I remember reading "Gus the Fire Fly" to the Pre K kids I taught. The ones who were from Southern CA thought I made it all up! They had never seen one.
Grace loves to catch them and whoops and giggles as she runs and jumps....
Have a sweet weekend!
Love,
Sue

Well Cindy, they live here with me in Indiana and if I could send you a jar of them I would gladly do so. There is nothing quite like the magic of a summer evening, sitting outside on the patio, listening to the laughter of children who are playing catch and release with the fireflies.

We have always had fireflies. Of course, we called them "lightning bugs" around here... not quite so romantic in this corner of Missouri. I used to catch them briefly in little jars, but I always let them go because I really felt sorry for them. I remember writing a chidren's fairy tale about their being little slivers of the moon that broke off during a war and came to life. Wish I could find that little gem. I adore your website. You have the Magic touch.

I'm enjoying reading your past posts so much!! I dream of visiting New England someday and especially Martha's Vineyard! I grew up in AZ and the first time I ever saw a firefly was when we went to visit some friends in Arkansas. Everyone should get to experience them at least once in their lifetime! It was MAGICAL!
