Ornate Details: Love them or hate them?

Pin It Now!

Just by looking around my home, anyone could easily figure out that I'm really drawn to ornate details!

I think they are one of those things you either love or hate. I think most of you probably love them as much as I do though!

Yes, it's all in the details for me too and I'm loving all of those you shared of yours! Alas, the thing about having lots of ornate details I've found is keeping them dust free... I have to commend you on how spotless all of your lovely ornate details are... I'd have to break out the duster for hours to be able to photograph mine without shame! *WINK*

Love it. I also love it in unexpected places, like the head of a screw with scroll work etched into it. Details!! It's all about the details.

Cheers!

Yes I love them, and I agree that white or cream brings out their loveliness even more. Ornate with gold tends to be heavy. You have great pictures on this post.

It really depends on the piece. In some things I love ornate and then in others I like a more simple line.

I love them --- but see, that's the thing. I love so MANY different types of design. I will never ever live long enough to have dwellings that I can decorate in enough different styles!

I love the ornate style, but I also love the spare look of Shaker or primitive style. Schizophrenic decorator, that's me.

I used to be so totally into the ornate things but now I prefer clean, simple lines. Smooth shiney things.

I too love ornate, can't imagine not appreciating all that goodness.

Almost purchased an old wooden wine bottle rack last weekend in Petaluma but decided it was just not curvy enough for me with its sharp lines. I know you get it, Cindy!!

I am a closet ornate lover. I am definitely drawn to the curves and all things ornate however I also love the clean, spare, modern rooms of today. Sometimes I think the ornate looks old fashioned or out of style and yet, that's really what I like. While I like really modern rooms, I am not sure I could really live in them, if that makes sense.

I would be in the love category. My hubby, on the other hand, would be in the hate category. It's a fine line I walk here;>) So, I use them against plainer backdrops so we are not "overdone".

I love all the pieces you have shown though- wonderful!!! Diana

I've never been a sleek modern person, so I love all the ornate details. I have a sweet dresser in my guest room with lovely rose details and vintage key holes on the drawers. Something about the patina ornate decorative details seem to get with age makes me swoon.

I love them. I don't notice ornate details in and of themselves, but being a romantic, I can really see that they bring romance and beauty to anything! This is my first comment to you, I have enjoyed reading your blog from the first post to the most recent over the past month or so. It helped me keep from going crazy at work...lol. I feel like I know you, and I always feel happier after I read your posts! Thanks!

In the late 1880s, Herman Hollerith invented the recording of data on a device readable medium. Prior makes use of of appliance readable media, above, had been for control, not information. "After some original trials with paper tape, he settled on punched cards !.."[10] To procedure these punched cards he created the tabulator, as well as the keypunch machines. These three inventions were the foundation from the contemporary data processing industry. Large-scale automated information processing of punched cards was performed for the 1890 United States Census by Hollerith's business, which later became the core of IBM. By the end from the 19th century quite a few technologies that will after prove helpful inside the realization of useful computer systems had begun to seem: the punched card, Boolean algebra, the vacuum tube (thermionic valve) as well as the teleprinter.

Love your photos with all the details. Especially the crocheted lace. I crochet and have done a few thread doilies and table runners. This picture is giving me the urge to work on something new. Winter in Ohio is a good time to cuddle up and crochet away !
