Drip, Drip, Drip...

Pin It Now!

No, my roof's not leaking! Something else is dripping! Do you notice anything different on my chandelier up there? I added some drips to my plastic covers. I can't take credit for this wonderful idea though, I saw it on someone else's blog a long time ago. I can't remember who's blog it was so if you know, please let me know so I can give her credit.
UPDATE: Thank you Shari for letting me know that I had found this great idea on Miss Mustard Seed's Blog!

I know you can buy these covers with the drips already on them but who wants to spend money on that? Not me! As you can see in these photos, I started with plain white plastic covers that were very cheap looking! I never like the looks of these at all... CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP!
With just a glue gun and some spray paint they look so much better! I found the best way to make the drips was to put the glue gun where you wanted the drip to stop and squeeze a small puddle of glue there and then pull the glue gun up to the top of the cover, which is the opposite of what you think you would do. If you try starting at the top, the glue hardens before it drips so that didn't work...trust me!
After the glue hardens you can cover the whole thing in spray paint. I chose Krylon Fusion paint because it adheres to plastic. I did mine in Dover White (Satin) which is a nice antique white color.
I know it's not a drastic change but I think it looks so much better now...
Are you all looking at your chandeliers now? I know you are! haha!
Now I need to do the chandelier in my kitchen! Speaking of chandeliers...I found one at the flea market last weekend. I hope to have it up for sale on my etsy shop later today!

Cindy amor, I LOVE this idea...and uhmmm how did you know I was looking at all my chandeliers??? Cause I was :) Also I wasn't sure if you had seen these or knew about them, but I have a round silver footed tray much like yours that you used at Chrismas time with things and a Cloche...I found these large cloches at Marshalls that actually fit the whole tray :) Reminds me of a beautiful cake dome for $12.99 they also had some really huge ones for $14, just thought I would share that with you. Hope your week is wonderful! Besos, Rose

ps.. if you want to see a picture, let me know and I can email it to you :)

Hi Cindy,
Great, and I have bought them before but now on my plain ones I have I might do this. Good idea.
Also I have seen old paper candle covers on antique chandeliers covered in silk ribbon which was nice also.

Cindy~ You never cease to amaze me.
That is so clever. I have a huge
crystal chandelier over my table
and yes I was looking.. Did you
know Lowe's sells a spray cleaner
for crystal chandeliers that is
very very good. It is $8.95 a 16oz.
bottle. Turn light out and spray
all crystals and let dry before
you turn it on. Works Great!! It
also is good for diamonds and 14k
jewelry.:O)

When I was looking for the drippy covers for my chandelier, I ran all over town and couldn't find them in white. I ended up buying the yucky tan drippy covers and spray painted them white. THEN I saw this idea on Miss Mustard Seed's blog.

Had I only known it was this easy to create my own I would have saved myself soooo much time and trouble!

Another great idea Cindy! I just realized my new colonial chandelier in my dinette has the candle drips on them (and they are golden brown in color) but...my dining room is the plain icky ones. I will have to try this treatment on my dining room chandelier.

My chandalier in the dining room has drips. It's a great look, and one I'd never have thought to add to newer ones. So thanks to you both!

Cindy,

What a great idea! Honestly, some of the most dramatic changes originate from the simplest of enhancements.

Thank you so much for the buttercream frosting recipe! Your blog is such a wealth of information. :-)

Very clever. I would look at my chandelier if I had one.

Eventually, I will switch out some of my ceiling fans to chandeliers. Well at least the ones in the dining room and the bedroom.

Hi Cindy,
Very clever, how did you think of that? I went and checked out my crystal chandy in the kitchen right away (no drips.) The wrought iron one in the dining room is a different story. It holds 10 real candles, and I definitely do not want drips from those! It's happened before, and boy is it embarassing when the wax hits a guest on the head, or in their plate of food! Now I know to use candles from Ikea, they are dripless.
I'd love for you to stop by for a visit - it's a very quiet Wednesday Gratitude at my place!
