Cake Decorating Class

Pin It Now!

Lauren and I finished up our Intermediate Cake Decorating class last night. We had taken the beginning class last year. Below is my cake, which I'm very disappointed, didn't turn out as well as I pictured it in my mind. I'll just have to practice some more.

I just LOVE Lauren's cake below. She's obviously better at cake decorating than her mom! I was so proud of her. I think this is just amazing for a 16 year old! Aren't the little snails on the grass so adorable. She made those with fondant.
Below are the cakes from the rest of our class. I was really impressed!

This one below was made by a teenage boy...

It was a lot of fun. I'm not sure if we will go on to take the advanced class or not. You have to make a wedding cake on the final night and that scares me!!!

Updated to answer questions:  No, it wasn't a Wilton class and it we didn't take it at Michaels.  We took our classes at Cakeworks on Bascom Ave. in Campbell, California.

I think you and Lauren did an amazing job on your cakes. They are beautiful. They also look delicious. Wish I could have a slice.

Oh Cindy! Both of your cakes came out WONDERFUL! You should both be super proud.

Are these Wilton classes you are taking? I love how you got to do different type of cakes then the ones from the other Wilton Classes I've seen.

You MUST take the next class. You will find that a wedding cake is much easier then you think. Besides, you don't have to do it as a wedding cake it can be a tiered birthday cake.

I have a tip on how to get your cake icing super smooth if you like I can send it to you. It's not really my idea but I use it. I learned about it from someone out in the Internet world. LOL

Email me if you want me to send it to you. You will need to take a trip to Home Depo or a place like it to get what you need. Does that have you wondering what in the world does Home Depo have to do with cake decorating? LOL

Hugs,
Joanne

Hi Cindy,
I think both of your cakes turned out just beautiful (and everyone else's too). Making a wedding cake sounds like a lot of fun and much work. Love the cakes shown here and so glad I can't get my hands on them since I'm trying to get ready for Spring weather and clothes - yikes!

Very pretty! You, Lauren, and the rest of the class did a wonderful job ~ thanks for sharing! I love the snails! It must've been a lot of work to get the lacy blue details on the sides of your cake. Too pretty to cut into, that's for sure ~ but then that's what pictures are for, right? Enjoy your delicious creations:)

Cindy -- both cakes, yours and Lauren's, are exquisite. Honestly, they are the prettiest of all you showed.

You may see things that you wish had turned out differently on your cake, and for this reason are disappointed, but for the rest of us, we'd be thrilled to have produced so lovely a cake.

Wow Cindy, I think your cake looks fantastic! Very dainty and elegant. Lauren is certainly a natural too! What adorable cakes you have both created.

I try my hand at cake decorating too. I have some DVDs from Wilton that I use. Problem is, when I practice we then have too much cake in the house. THAT I don't need :)

Take the advanced decorating class. Then, maybe someday you'll make Lauren's wedding cake for her :)

Blessings,

Sher

Wow, I think you did an amazing job! They are all nice but yours has really beautiful muted colors and soft pretty flowers, and the trailing leaves are just lovely. Lauren's is extremely well done, obviously some of your good taste has rubbed off on her. I think you should go for it and make the wedding cake, I'll bet it's the best one in the class.

Cindy, moving from those gorgeous cakes to your wall colors. In your living room the background color looks like a creamy/ivory/buttery color. Do you have the name of the color and the brand? I need to get started painting before I can take a cake decorating class... Perhaps the colors you use in your house accents the tone.
Thanks.

I love both your cakes!! Those snails are so adorable on Lauren's cake, though! I think it's fabulous that you were able to do something so fun like this with your daughter! Was it expensive to take the classes at the bakery? Is it just a one night class for the beginners and one night for the intermediate? I'm really impressed with all of the cakes you shared!!! How much fun that must have been!!

Miss Cindy, I think the cakes are delicious and delightful! I can see what you were going for. It must take lots of practice. And all of your co-workers and neighbors and friends I'm sure would like you and your daughter to practice a lot so they could visit. Your home and your cakes will give them much joy! You have given me a thought. I have wanted to take a cake class and now that I'm almost through painting my studio-(Marie Antoinette turquoise)-I am going to see if our local My Perfect Cake will do a class so I don't have to go to Michael's. I learn something every time I look at your blog. Thank you for being there for your friends on the east coast!

Cindy, BOTH you and Lauren are extremely talented at cake decorating and I would encourage you both to sign up for the advanced class!

Many years ago, I took a cake decorating class so I know how much work goes into it and it's not as easy as it looks! About the only time I ever use what I learned in the class I took is when I make deviled eggs. I pipe the yolk filling in a fancy swirl! LOL.

All the cakes turned out so well! I took my classes years ago before fondant had gotten popular, so I still want to go back sometime to learn to work with fondant and gum paste. Cake decorating is such a fun art that is much appreciated by families and co-workers!

Goodness Cindy! You have alot of fans! This message might get lost in the swarm but I just had to tell you how beautiful your cakes are! Your daughter ought to be very proud of the cake she made! I think the top of her cake is the prettiest one! I took cake decorating years ago with some friends and my firstborn got to reap the rewards from that with some great cakes! Did a few anniversary cakes too and even did a wedding cake for a girl at our church and the wedding cake for my sister's wedding! I have since put up that apron! Don't know if I'd even remember how to make a rose! I gave all my cake decorating stuff to a friend. But your pics make me want to start again! Thanks for the pictures!

I think both cakes are wonderful! I took a Wilton class a bazillion years ago in Saratoga and never did anything nearly as fancy! That lacy effect on the side of your cake always impresses me! I think the wedding cake sounds like fun. From what I understand, the biggest trick is to make sure your filling is stable enough to hold the weight of the cake. I think you've got the beautiful decorating part down pat! Well done!
