It's Cold Season!

Pin It Now!

Anyone else out there have a cold right now? It's really going around here in Silicon Valley, and I caught it!  I guess it will be tea with honey and lemon for me! I would love to hear what you you do when you have a cold and want to feel better!

No remedies. Just whine to whoever will listen. At least you'll be sharing in the misery!

Seriously, hope you feel better soon!

Tea, homemade vegetable soup (my mom and I make it for each other depending on who is sick), cookies help speed the recovery, and lots of vicks vaporub and vick's coated tissues! Mix that with old movies (think Cary Grant), comfy pillows, and pajamas. I usually am well before I am ready to give all that up! Lol.
Hope you feel better!

Both of my daughters are sick. I'm sure I'm next. I think the best medicine is sleep.

Hope you feel better!

When I'm sick, I wrap up warm and sit and read wonderful blogs all day. Actually, come to think of it - when I'm well I sit and read wonderful blogs all day - oh yes - and I whine too.
LOVE your blog, will most certainly be back! xx

I'm soooo glad we got our flu shots at the pharmacy. With customers coming in sick with flu already..at least we have some protection against the bug.
Hope you feel better soon! My Grampa used to make a shot of whisky, some honey, and lemon, then heat it up a little...we would drink it right down...don't know if it helped, but it sure made me sleep good!

I do aleve cold and sinus during the day....and use the nedi pod, I swear it knocked the cold out of me sooner than it should have lasted.

Chicken noodle soup with lots and lots of veggies. And a little Theraflu before bed never hurts. Hope you feel better soon!

Cold have been going crazy here in Modesto as well. I'm just getting over one myself. To cut my colds short, I take lots of Echinacea and Zicam. That stuff really does help. If I take it with the first sign of a sore throat, it seems to shorten the duration. And, it usually doesn't get any worse. I work in an elementary school and there's no way around the cold season there!

Feel better, Cindy. I use Nyquil for night-time. It really does help.

Listened to a doctor on the radio last year - he said that if you take cold remedies your cold lasts seven days, without it'll last a week! And for that reason, I suggest you have whiskey, honey and lemon juice - you may not feel better, but you won't care! (Hope you feel better in less than a week though)
:o)

I'm like you ~ a bit of hot tea, some lemon and a spoonful of honey makes me a happier girl when I'm coming down with something.

AND I also find it helps to dab a q-tip in some pure lavender oil or eucalyptus oil and then swab inside my nostrils ~ breathing easy again!

When I start with a cold I take Airborne and Zicam. Works every time. I was starting with one last week, took the remedies, and nipped it in the bud.
It really works. I think I've taken 2 sick days in 18 years!
Hope you're feeling better soon, it sure is making the rounds here, too!

Whenever I feel a cold coming on I hit the Theraflu (hot) hard and heavy...and I start taking Vitamin C chewables. I can usually stop it in its tracks...Diana

Hi, Cindy,
Oh...I am so sorry that you are not feeling well. Since I am a teacher, there are plenty of bugs that come my way. It's no fun to be sick!

Take care ~Natalie

Fortunately, I haven't had a cold or the flu in years (knock on wood). The older I get, the more I sway away from conventional medicine and Rx, even over-the-counter products, and try to stick to more natural remedies.

Here's my secret: If I'm exposed to someone with a cold, or the split second I feel like I might be getting one, I immediately start taking echinacea (a natural immune booster) and 500 mg. vitamin C tablets every few hours for 3 to 5 days. Works for me every time.

I was just on my echinacea/vitamin C regimine a couple weeks ago when my hubby and daughter both had nasty colds, and once again, I was able to avoid getting sick. (It doesn't help much if you've already got a full-blown cold though.)

Hope you feel better soon!

We have something here in Canada called Cold-X. If you take it as soon as you feel the symptoms coming on and take it like it says it will knock your cold out. I used to take it when I felt one coming on and it worked. I haven't had one since last February, but I take 50 mcg of Selenium every day. It boosts the imune system.
I hope you get to feeling better very soon.
Warm hugs, Cindy

Zinc picolinate--30 mg every day year round--along with P-5-P every day, year round. Used to be sick with one respiratory infection after another; not any more.
The other thing that really helped was getting a pneumonia vaccination.

If I start to catch one anyway, I take a bunch of those Chinese Flower Pills. (They will not help with pneumonia, however; if they don't help then I know I need to see a doctor.)

Hope these help others.

Hot Toddy to the rescue! That is if I do catch something. Ususally I take a daily immune booster, vit C and Cod liver oil every day, so colds and flus are really rare. If somethings catches me, it is hot lemon with honey and a large dollop of whisky at bed time, lots of blankets and flannel, to encourage sweating. Then hot showers in the mornings to clear up. Usally works in 2-3 days. Drink lots of fluids and rest, rest, rest. But no sitting around and whining! Just blow your nose and get on with it.
Blessings,
Wendy, someone from San Jose who was transplanted to TX.

Sorry you are feeling poorly dear. It's been a while! I take around 5-7000 mg of Vit C starting (uh, now). I'll probably add Vit D this year as I'm not getting out at much as I have been, but that works to boost the immune system too. Daily vitamin and rest. Hot tea and movies when I feel badly. Vicks vaporub on the footsies then cover with cotton sox helps break up the chest congestion...

Hi Cindy, First you should get a flu shot. When I have a cold (which I get many) I take Airborne, Dayquil to get me through daytimes then at night I take 1 Nyquil capsule and use Vicks Sinex 12 hour nasal spray for the 3 first (usually the worst) days only so I can at least sleep at night. For sore throats and coughing I use Hall's Honey Lemon lozenges. As you can see I'm a pro at cold relief and have been doing this for years. Try some of these remedies..they do help. Also tea with honey and lemon is soothing. I hope this info helps.

Oh honey do I ever feel your pain - we've been down at our house for a few weeks now, and it's currently my turn :( Dayquil in the day, Nyquil at night, and Vicks on the bottom of the feet (with socks) at night. Hope we all get better soon!

Airborne, Airborne, Airborne!!! And lots of tea with lemon (and honey, if you like). Also, some great soup (my current favorite is a Greek "Egg Lemon Soup") All the lemon, warmth and some good rest make me feel better. Hope you are feeling better and have a WONDERFUL 50th birthday!!!!
