Inside & Out ~ I Love White Homes!

I can't get enough white! I love white interiors ~ some may say they are cold but to me the are fresh and soothing! White linen with crystal chandeliers....I love that look!
Old white homes with white wicker furniture on a wrap-around porch are my favorite!
White even makes bricks look better!
White gardens are so pretty!
White with a little blue...perfection!

Photos from www.countryliving.com

All photos above are from CountryLiving.com ~ a wonderful place to visit to be inspired!

The photos below are from my trip to Martha's Vineyard 2 years ago. I love white houses with black shutters and there are blocks and blocks of them in Edgartown. I walked up and down so many streets looking at them and I still daydream about them often!

  1. GORGEOUS! I love white, as well. I am looking at a new home and I mentioned painting the panelling white and my Dad nearly had a heart-attack, good thing my Hubby is more understanding of my preferences. ;-D

I have always said, "if i'm ever lucky enough to own my own home, it will be white with black shutters". It's timeless, classic and beautiful.

    Love white too!

  7. Cindy - I KNEW those pics were from MV before I even saw the description :) I love the white decor with little splashes of color... very New England... very summer and very cool.
You've got to get back to MV and get more pictures...lol

  8. Give me an older home any day like the one you love. I'd like mine in the country or on a piece of land where I could have chickens.

I don't mind white, it give you a sense of clean and refreshing. It a lot of work to keep clean, but if you can take the covers off and have a great machine to wash them in, then what the heck.

    Ciao

And as you said, I don´t think that white is cold, if you choose several white tones carefully a white home has a warm and inviting look! I ad colour with fresh flowers.... mostly pale pink! But honestly my favorit flowers are white once... ;0) have a nice weekend, Mira!

  12. Cindy,
I love the white rooms that have lots of creams and some beiges in them. I also adore blue and white -- Carolyne Roehm has a new book coming out this fall called Blue & White. Can't wait! Oh, and those white houses in Edgartown? Gorgeous!

    Have a great weekend!

  13. Oh. My. Gosh. I knew that I loved the color white for homes, but this takes it to a whole new level. I'll have to show my dear hubs- because he thinks it a little plain at times :)

  18. I so admire those lovely white spaces. But I can't seem to make myself stop "coloring" the house! So I've accepted I'm a "color" person, and just am in awe of "white" houses. And peace is made. (I love Country Living too!)

  20. Cindy, I have to say that I echo your sentiment. You have the gift of lightening things with color. I still go back and look at the photo of the green wicker that you whitened. A few years ago we moved from a house in which every room was in color. Over the years all the walls had been painted multiple times. The furniture was all in rich, intense colors. When we bought our new house we had windows everywhere so every room is full of light. I had all the furniture re-upholstered in an off-white and I love it. I can't post photos here but I will post some soon on my blog.

  21. I love the white look, too! It's very fresh, yet soothing to me. Those houses with black shutters are truly beautiful as well.

  22. I love white, too..however, I found my family can't live comfortably in it..we do have a hugh family and with 10 grandkids around A LOT...white isn't practical for us. I do have my white and off-white walls, which I adore...any and every color looks good with a white background.
    Your photos are wonderful!!

  23. Beautiful pictures. I have all white walls in my house, but it sure doesn't look as good as those pictures!!!!
My dream vacation has always been to go to the New England States and see the gorgeous homes and the changing of the leaves in the fall. I would also like to see the covered bridges in Iowa. Someday!!!

  24. I adore white on white. I have a white home and we're going to add white shutters. The look is completely classic and timeless. Now if I could just get the interior to be just as classic and timeless, warm, welcoming, cozy, and inviting. I have a long way to go, but I am making progress. New plantation shutters installed and now I need to paint the kitchen cabinets and finish the great room. I would love for your input if you want to pop by my blog I have some photos of my works in progress.

  26. Hi Cindy,
I love the look of white too but I think it is really hard to pull it off and have it look like all the photos you showed. I like white with really dark hardwood floors and the brick wall like the one photo. However, right now I am definitely in a blue phase...LOL!!

    LeAnn:)

  30. Cindy, these are some of my fav pictures, too! White is chicness at its best! Love the chandy against the brick ~ we had our daughter's wedding reception in an 1890's old opera house in our downtown, with gorgeous chandeliers juxtaposed with the old bricks!

  33. Hi Cindy
These pictures are heavenly and sooo romantic. I agree with you about the white. I think white is only cold when you leave it cold. It lends itself to become so romantic...its a lovely slate to work with even when you're working with white. Funny how that is.
Your homes and pictures are lovely.
Hope you have a lovely day.

  34. Cindy- All your pictures are so beautiful..I live in California (Ventura Co.) and my hubby is from Mass.
When I went there to visit I just loved the homes. Here we have all stucco. Or it seems. Not there. I would love to live in a home in New England..But I just do not like the snow.

  43. I love this post and I hate it too. I live in farmhouse territory where the only thing white are chicken feathers stuck to my kids clothes from doing chores outside. Oh to live like this in the city!! I love looking at the white interiors, and furniture as I wash my 'white' eggs to put them in the fridge.
    Absolutely love it!

  49. Cindy,

Those are beautiful pictures, especially the exterior pictures. next time you come East you should go to Nantucket. The white houses there are equally as gorgeous. For some reason I have been to Nantucket several times, but have never been to "the Vineyard". Maybe next summer.

  54. I too love white. One of my favorite books is Victoria magazine's "At Home With White". The photo of the white house with wicker furniture on the porch reminds me of the house shown in the opening credits of "Designing Women" - do you remember that show? Interior Designers in Atlanta. I loved it!

  55. I love white but it does not work in my house..teenagers,pets and I run a daycare in home too!
I just throw it all in there..dark,light a little bit of this and that.
I can not believe your seam binding find. Those would be so pretty to display. I was at the fabric store today and asked for seam binding ribbon and they did not know what I was talking about. I do not know where to find it other then online and I do not want to pay shipping..Do you have any suggestions?
Love all your great decorating ideas. and I can't wait til you win your dream home..won't you have a blast decorating that!
