Garage Sale Finds

Pin It Now!

Saturday I got up early because I had to have Lauren at a friend's house at 7:30AM because she was going to do some volunteer work with a friend and his family. Usually I would just throw on some sweats and drop her off quickly and hope that no one sees me but this was the first time I was going to meet his mom so I had to get showered and look presentable. Once I dropped her off I sure didn't feel like just going home to clean house so I decided to go hit some garage sales. I found this mirror to add to the stairway wall for only $5. Someone recently asked how I paint these so I'll be showing you that later this week.
I also found this battenburg lace tablecloth for $5. It's not old, just a reproduction made in China type of tablecloth but for $5 I couldn't pass it up! It looked like someone had used it once and never washed it. It had coffee cup rings and various other stains on it but I figured I could get them out with a good soak and I was right...they all came out.
I usually don't like battenburg lace because it never lays flat once you wash it. I ironed and ironed and it still puckers. I'm probably too much of a perfectionist! I also got four placemats for $1 each but when I got them home I realized there were two different types of placemats not a full set. I may use them to make pillows.

I didn't get Lauren's dresser painted this weekend...in fact I didn't even start it! Well, I bought the paint for it but that's as far as I got. I plan to do it this coming weekend...hopefully!

Also, thanks to all of you who rated my blog over the weekend! The response was overwhelming! I really appreciate it!

I love your mirror! The detail is beautiful. I think that will be my favorite on your stair wall. I love the tablecloth, too. I like Battenburg lace. Can't wait to see the dresser painted!

What great bargins you found. I love battenburg lace , but also can never iron it to stay down. I thought it was just my ironing so it's good to know it happens to other people as well.
I will be looking forward to read how you paint the plastic frams, I have some I need to paint but sure how to do so. Thank-you for teaching us.

That is a lovely mirror you found! And tablecloth ~ I have a shower curtain very similar which I love!
I am on garage-sale withdrawal. I told myself I cannot go to any until after Brad's graduation party! So I will live vicariously through you and other blog friends 'til then!! :)

Sorry to be a little slow to understand this rating thing... I'd like to give you the highest mark possible. Is that a 10 or a 1?

Good thing we don't live next door to each other.......With your love of WHITE and my obsession of RED blogging we would have one pink mess, LOL.
Thanks again for your blog, its my daily doses of GIRLY VICTORIAN BLING BLING.

I have a lot of battenburg table cloths. I too have to iron them. I use sizing finishing spray, it keeps the body but doesn't make it stiff.
I haven't been to a garage sale in years. I just don't think about them.
Great find too in the mirror. Isn't funny how we always find the gold mirrors and never the already painted to our liking ones ?

Great finds, Cindy! I'm a HUGE fan of Battenburg Lace... I have several BL valances and my shower curtain is also BL... You're right - it won't lay flat so try to give in to that 'shabby/mussy' look or you'll be ironing non-stop! LOL And if you still decide you can't take all the puckering and mussiness, you can send all your Battenburg to moi! LOL... Donna

Awesome finds! I agree about the Battenburg lace not laying flat though!

Another beautiful mirror.
Even though the battenburg lace doesn't lay flat it still looks pretty

I have a tablecloth almost exactly like this one. I haven't used it in awhile. I think I'll get it out and put it on the table. You got me in the mood. I love your chairs and china cabinet. The blue theme of your blog is so pretty.

What wonderful things you always find! The mirror is just beautiful, and I feel about the battenburg like you do, it just never irons flat and that bugs me too...it does look great in your pictures though! Glad everyone was good about your blog rate, yours is a 10 in my book, I think that is what I wrote on the comment thingy...Donna Lynn

I bought a mirror similar to that at the Goodwill this weekend for $6 and a little cherub statue for $1.40. I got them because of your blog. I'm decorating my extra bedroom for my granddaughter and I thought the mirror (painted white!) will look like it came out of Snow White.
I thought of you as soon as I saw the mirror. I was already decorating the room in white w/pink accents but I probably wouldn't have bought the mirror if it wasn't for you!
Thanks!!!!

I love the mirror too! I can just imagine what it will look like after you get a hold of it! Also...I spy a bird cage in the back??? Did you get another birdie? I saw your previous post that you took a bird back?? Have I missed something. I only ask because I've been wanting a bird too...a little bird for my studio that I can name "Cupid"! Loved your pictures...great hunting! xoxo ~ Joy J

Hi Cindy
That's a great mirror you got for $5! You just gotta love garage sales. I went to a few this weekend. I got was a little silver plate tray for 75 cents and a great pair of brand new pink shoes with fun beading on them for $3.
I just love looking at the pictures you show us of your home. Everything is just so beautiful and it has such a trtanquil feeling. I didn't read your rating blog but I'd give you an A++

I feel just the same about Battenburg lace. It is so love, but oh those annoying puckers.

Your things always look so lovely.

I just wanted to tell you how lovely your home and blog are. I actually found you thru the HGTV RMS and I just love your spunk and thriftiness. I to am an avid shopper with and eye for anything pretty that can be made over or gotten for a song.

I am reworking my home right now, probably a bit of spring cleaning, a creative liscense I believe, and hopefully a newly decorated/organized craft/art studio. I was looking for ideas..so thanks for the inspiration...off to go work!
