Thrift Store Finds and a Gift

Pin It Now!

I have to stop going to the thrift stores so often. Although I don't spend much I am feeling the pinch from rising gas prices (I just paid $3.45 a gallon), my $100/month rent increase, and the rising prices of just about everything lately. My sewing machine is waiting to be picked up and that's $150 that I just can't seem to pull out my budget right now. Anyway, I found these things a couple weeks ago before I realized I needed to curb my spending.

The border on this platter above is yellow and pink. I wish you could see the detail better. I tried to take a close up of the flowers but it came out blurry. I have it hanging in my bedroom.

This platter has very cute pink roses. Sorry, this one came out really blurry. (I was rushing to get these pictures taken last night before American Idol came on.) It has a cute scalloped edge. I think this one is made is Austria, if I remember correctly. There is more and more pink slipping into my blue and white home!

I needed a silver tray for my silver tea set and when I saw this one, I almost didn't buy it because it was so tarnished I couldn't tell what shape it was in. Now that I polished it, I think it's a newer piece. It says Oneida on the back. I think I paid $5.99 for this. I think a lot of people get silver as wedding presents and as soon as it tarnishes they get rid of it. I actually like polishing silver, there's something satisfying in seeing that transformation.

I've always wanted a set of these fish dishes. My daughter and I love green salads with shrimp for dinner in the summer and I thought these would be great for that. There is one large platter and 6 salad dishes. This was $6.99 for the set.

This is not a thrift store find. This was a gift from Denise of Shabby Cottage Boutique. She sent it along with the cottage sign I bought from her. It's from France and it can be used either as a belt buckle, pendant, or pin. this picture does not do it justice at all. It's much more sparklier (I know that's not a word) in person.

What? Sparklier isn't a word? You always find the best stuff. I love the rosy plates.

There is a restaurant in Roseville that serves their entrees on fish plates like that - when I saw them I told my husband they would make the best seafood salad plates. Great finds!

I hear you about the gas prices and the budget! but garage sale season is here and I tend to spend more money on gas driving around to these sales then what I save buying items at a garage sale...but some things are just in the blood! take care,Gail thetatterednest.blogspot.com

Don't worry, I always make up my own words.

Those are beautiful!

I actually enjoy polishing silver and I've also been able to get it at a good price because people don't want to polish it.

I have a gorgeous set of silver candlesticks purchased for only $1.00, the lady was selling them for that reason.

I certainly don't want to tell her about the MAAS polish that makes it SO easy. :)

Thanks for the comments you left on SabbyintheCity blog about my house in Country Living. I can not get a blog to work. I bought 2 new computers and it still won't work. I think its Windstream, my internet carrier. I feel your pain about gas prices and everything in general. My little shop is really suffering, don't know how long I can keep the door open. Feel free to e-mail me. Cottagetiques@windstream.net

Wow, since I started reading all the bogs, my thrift store addiction is back. LOL I actually feel bad if I let a good deal go by, even when I don't need the item. How crazy is that?

You found some nice things!

What wonderful found treasures Cindy. I adore the fish plates. I have salmon/apple salad often for my lunch and one of those plates would make it so special. I'll have to look for some similar plates. xoxo

You found some great things, Cindy. I totally understand about curbing the spending though. I have just about decided I have to start a resale business, so I can still go & shop. I just don't have anymore room for stuff in my house. It's a sickness, I'll tell ya! I hate those high gas prices too...it does pinch.

Oh, I am so addicted to thrift shopping..... yard sales, Goodwill...... that's how I love to decorate my home. But I fear I have enough to decorate TEN other people's homes as well.
I enjoy seeing your finds ~ and happy about the pink sneaking its way into your home!
Oh, just wait 'til you see where the lovely button heart found a spot in my home.... I'll be sharing on my blog soon!
