My garden in January

Pin It Now!

Last night it got down to 28 degrees which broke a 10 year old record for that night but I still have flowers blooming in my garden. My daffodils have started to shoot up out of the ground and my rose bushes are sprouting new growth. I haven't even pruned my roses yet because I can never remember when I'm supposed to do that but I think they were supposed to be pruned before the new growth started.

On a different subject...I rented the best movie I've seen in a long time. "An Unfinished Life" with Robert Redford, Morgan Freeman and Jennifer Lopez. It's from 2005 so I know I'm behind in just watching it now but if you haven't seen it you really should. It's a great lesson about forgiveness, which I believe is so important.

I just read a good rose pruning tip - about two weeks before you prune defoliate the entire bush. It causes the bush to start growing again so when you go to prune you can see the pink swellings easier.

Now is about the time I usually prune in our area (Bay Area).

Lovely pictures...as always! Do stay warm. You are colder there than we have been here for the past few weeks. Getting cold here this week. Bundle up!
I am no great shakes as a gardner but still my flowers bloom! I am looking forward to Spring...
Hugs,
Sue

I love that movie too. Each of the characters is so layered and genuine.

There's so much snow up here I've forgotten what flowers look like :)

It`s so nice to see some flowers somewhere. The snow came back to us here and I hate it. As for your other post.... I`ve always been a bit of a clutz, but now I find that it doesn`t take much at all to bring on aches nd pains. Hope your feeling better after that fall!

Oh, you are killing me! I can't wait for spring! Your pictures are so pretty and cheerful. We've got some nasty weather this week so I will have to come back and look at these again in a few days to cheer myself!

Just found your blog... I so get you! I love thrifting and decorating too.
Enjoying your past posts... AND I too LOVE that movie too! Great movie! My daughter got me the movie for my birthday in Dec., cuz I had recently seen it.
I live in Phoenix... we're having the coldest January since 1979! I'm loving it... originally from Wisconsin.
I'll be back!
