Ornaments

I'm getting a ton of emails asking how I hung my plates on my dining room tree so I'll answer that here because I know for every email I get there are a probably a lot of you that want to know but don't want to ask. To hang the plates, first put a wire plate hanger on the plate. It's the type of hanger you would use to hang a plate on the wall. You can buy these at most hardware or craft stores. I buy mine at Michaels. Then just tie the plate hanger to the tree branch, or you can wire it on with a twisty. That's it! It works better on artificial trees because the branches are usually stronger.

I thought I would show you some closeups of some of my ornaments that I've collected over the years...

I bought the one above when I was pregnant with Lauren...I knew I was having a girl obviously! It's one of my favorites!

These next two were my very first ornaments I bought. I was about 17 years old and I went to Sax Fifth Avenue with my mom. It was the day after Christmas and these were half off. Boy...that was a looooong time ago!

You may recognize this (a gift from Becca)...

I love ornaments and I try to buy a few new ones every year. I also give my kids an ornament every year as one of their Christmas gifts.
Thanks to all of you who went over to RMS to rate my dining room tree! I really appreciate it!

  4. We do the same here...buy everyone an ornament as a gift. It is really a fun thing to do. I figure if we have six children and in the next 10 years I should have a tree with no branches showing. :)

I love the idea of not having any red ornaments in your decoration. It looks so great.
Few years ago I bought a nice huge Christmas tree and some blue ornaments and my idea was to change it every year. I am still with the blue ones. But then blue is such a nice color.

Enjoy the season and your trees. Love, Suzy

  53. I love seeing people's Christmas trees and favorite ornaments. Of course, yours are lovely as can be. I adore your dining room tree! I have been taking pictures of my sitting room tree, which is very feminine. I tuck teacups and saucers into the branches, along with dolls and other pretties. But I had never thought of filling a tree with plates as well. It is just gorgeous! And BTW, my sitting room tree is mostly pink!

  54. Hi Cindy! Thank you again for allowing me to post your blue and white china tree pictures on our blog...you are very much a kindred spirit! I just love your style and the continuity you preserve in your decorating. That's a true gift...one I always struggle with (probably because I like EVERYTHING). Your decor and color combinations are warm, generous and soothing to view--a true reflection of your personality. Thanks again for everything.
