Happy Birthday Dad!

me and dad in the 1970s
Today is my dad's birthday!  My dad is such a great person...really, there isn't another person alive that I trust more than him! He's the most honest, hardworking, and just generally wonderful person I've ever met!

Not only is he a great person but he's also very talented...here are a couple things he's made for me over the years...

This beautiful cabinet that I keep my chintz collection in was made by my dad in the 90s.

He also made my birdhouse table around that time!  He used to make things and sell them at the flea market.  We spent many wonderful hours at the flea market...my kids practically grew up there! I miss those days!

My dad has had a hard year with my mom passing away in April...can you do me a favor and leave him a happy birthday wish here! His name is Jack. He reads ALL your comments everyday! I know he will love this...and if you happen to be in Pittsburgh, PA he gets really happy because that's where he is from!

Thanks all!

I love you Dad! I couldn't have picked a better father!

My mom passed away three years ago April and it is still very hard; especially after 59 years of marriage. He'll be 85 next April and says his shop and woodworking keeps him going. 43. Dear Jack, a very Happy Birthday to you. The words your daughter used to describe you are the same words I always use to describe my dad (also named Jack) who turned 88 in July. You both belong to the greatest generation this country has ever known and we, the children and grandchildren, have so much to learn from all of you.

My dad also had a very tough time when we lost my Mom in 1996. He would be the first to tell you that the intense grief and sadness does give way to wonderful memories which, in turn, lead to smiles and laughter.

I hope you have an incredible birthday filled with love and family.

My best wishes to you, Jack....

    Jack's daughter, Donna

  49. Jack, it is wonderful to get to know someone using the "modern marvels" as our messengers! I feel as if I know you through your daughter's beautiful blog. You have made her so many pretty things, and I know you have been such a treasure and strong support for her. I am so very sorry about your wife. Life's so short, and it brings such joy... but at times I have lost loved ones, too... and it is such a sharp blow to the soul that we can scarcely breathe.

Enjoy your birthday. I think about all my friends in blog land as if they are truly people I have come to know... I find myself talking about them, saying, "My friend Cindy...." and her dad!

Happy Birthday from the hot and humid Midwest!

  62. Happy Birthday, Jack! With Cindy sharing stories of how you've created beautiful items for her, it reminds me of my dad and his never saying I can't create that for you... I'd take him to look at it and somehow he'd always end up making it even better than the item I'd loved at a store. I can tell and see you're like that too!!

    Have a beautiful day!
