Last Saturday afternoon Lauren and I drove over to the beach for lunch. It's about a 30 minute drive from our place. We headed straight to the wharf and ordered clam chowder in bread bowls and sat outside. I figure that must have been, at the very least, my 35 extra weight watchers points for the week! Speaking of that...I'm down 14.4 lbs so far! Slowly but surely it's coming off...even eating clam chowder in bread bowls!

From the wharf you can see Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk off to the side.

After lunch we jumped in the car, put the top down and drove around. It was about 60 degrees but there were lots of clouds. It was the beginning of a week-long storm we're having here now.

We drove down this street that had all these pretty old houses, all in a row...
It was very interesting for me to read the article. Thanks the author for it. I like such topics and everything that is connected to them. I definitely want to read more on that blog soon.
ReplyDeleteIf you could tell the owners of the purple hous to hurry up and move out so I can move in, that would be great. LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat pics -- just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day your Saturday was! I love the beach and miss it living in Phoenix. I love the beautiful older homes in the photos. I wish I was there with you guys; lol.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Debbie
Whoah, those seals are something else. I had no idea that they were that trusting of people to sleep on a pier like that. No seals in Louisiana, can you tell? :-)
ReplyDeleteLoved the photos, Cindy. And congratulations on your 14 pound weight loss. That is truly commendable! Sincerely, Susan from writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great day and the photo's you showed at the end....awwww, so cute.
ReplyDeleteYou are truly blessed to be able to drive around and see such gorgeous sites..thanks for the tour
ReplyDeleteThe little ones are so cute! What does that sign say? I tried to make it out ~ is it "no seals allowed"?
ReplyDeleteEveryone of those homes are beautiful & worthy of photography!! Awwww.... the seals look like babies fast asleep!!
ReplyDeleteGreat Post!
Love,
Marilyn

ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you and Lauren had a perfect day. I'm drooling over those houses. And the napping seals are so sweet!
ReplyDeleteKathy, the sign says "No Alcohol". Funny...the seals look like they've had a bit too much!
ReplyDeleteThose seals are darling! I just heard a report that most of the seals that hung around San Francisco Pier had moved up to Oregon. Looks like a few came down your way too!
ReplyDeleteI used to volunteer at a Seal Rescue place. It was so fun to be able to release them back to the sea when they were all healed.
Congrats on the weight loss. I love WW because you can eat anything and still lose. It really isn't a diet and once I got that through my head I learned that there really are no bad foods or cheat days. While I may have times of eating to much of one thing (still learning) I no longer feel like I "blew" it and would have to start all over or just quit.
Hugs,
Joanne
Thas sounds like my kinda day Cindy~ the yummy lunch in a bread bowl w/ daugher, and a drive past cute old homes. Love the seal's and the sleeping baby ones. My hubs on our honeymoon 10 yrs. ago visited Santa Cruz along our honeymoon journey. He grew up there as a child. I believe I was on that same board walk and saw those seals too. Loved Santa Cruz and seeing the ocean, those made for some great memories, we share today.
ReplyDeletehate typos... ;(
ReplyDeleteOh, you take beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteI think we need to go out for a drive as well.
Loved, the photos those homes are beautiful...thanks for the tour...Pat H
ReplyDeleteI've been a lifetime member of Weight Watchers for many years, so I know it works but has its challenges. Congrats on the weight loss! You're doing great. also thanks for your georgeous photos. I love looking at them.
ReplyDeleteGreat Day!
ReplyDeleteI love to take pics outside under an overcast sky - can't beat the softness of the colors.
The napping seals are definitely the coolest thing I've seen today.

Hi Cindy,
ReplyDeleteI love your photos and a day at the beach is a wonderful thing.
We live just 10 minutes away, and I hardly ever go....what's wrong with me, duh!
I love the houses, of course the pink one is my favorite.
Sissie
I've been to Santa Cruz and well remember the sea lions. They are so adorable!
ReplyDeleteLove the houses, too.
xo
Claudia
Or are they seals?
ReplyDeleteClaudia
Those houses are so lovely. Just my style! I live a few miles from the Delaware beach, but we have nothing as exotic as those seals. I guess the tourists are about as exotic as we get! LOL Stay safe and dry, Cindy. The weather out there sounds awful.
ReplyDeleteThose seals do know how to relax - don't they? Love the homes, especially that PINK one!!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun it must be to drive down the streets and see such colorful homes. We did that in San Francisco once and were SO LOST, and didn't take pictures either! Stay warm. I love the weather report that includes temps for the coast and inland. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy, wonderful pictures. If you like good clam chowder, you and Lauren should try out The Chowder House in Pacific Grove. Their clam chowder is the best ( in a bread bowl of course, with a garlic bread top for dipping) It is on Lighthouse Ave. It is SO worth trying out. While you're in Pacific Grove don't forget to go into the store "Diamonds and Rust". It is my favorite. And their is a little nursery next to it. Picked up a Romantic Homes mag on Sat. in Not Too Shabby and saw you. Such a lovely article and Lauren's photo credit was neat. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your weight loss! Your photos are beautiful as always, and the seals made me smile. They're so cute! Have a great evening!
ReplyDeleteCindy,
ReplyDeleteCould you please go back and see if you can claim any of these homes for your readers??? PLEASSSSSSSEEEEEEEE. They are each so very beautiful and exactly what I would like to live in. The seals look so relaxed, hum, I wonder what sort of libation they indulged in at nap time....
Lorrie
Sounds like a perfect outing for you and your daughter. Beautiful pictures! I love the seals. That pink house is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Lee Laurie

to see around here not even at our
zoo. Those homes are gorgeous, I
would love to see the inside of
some of them. Congrats on the weight loss, keep up the good work.
:O)
All the homes are beautiful. They remind me a little of the community where I work in Melrose, Massachusetts. Love the choice of colors on the houses too.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your weight loss. 14 pounds is significant!
Those seals are adorable. They're so lucky to live in the warm weather and to be able to sun themselves in January! Jealous!
Gorgeous photos! I love the ocean..I am drawn to the sea!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a PERFECT day! How awesome to live in such a gorgeous area! The SEALS!! Love'em!

ReplyDeleteThank you for the pics of the well preserved historic homes. As the owner of a 98 year old home in Boise, Idaho,I appreciate the love and care given to these beauties. The sleeping seals are precious too.

Cindy your photo's are awesome, and you are as cute as can be. Have a happy week. XO MARY
ReplyDeleteThe houses are just gorgeous and incredible, but that last shot of the seals takes the cake. Those babies are just darling!
ReplyDeletethanks for a chuckle and smile!
hugs,
Debra
I just love it when you post photos of homes in your area! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful houses, but why are all the drapes pulled closed?? Is it a California thing? Lori
ReplyDeleteLori, I'm not sure why...maybe because they are on a busy street.
ReplyDeleteYou live in such an amazing place. Reminds me of the 40-50-60 birthday weekend my niece, myself and sister spent in San Francisco to celebrate our big years all at one time.
ReplyDeleteCindy - try the Wii Fit or Wii with EA Sports Active to have fun and really burn those calories. Since April of last year I went from a size 12 jean to a size 4.
Oh, I love this post! Love the houses, but especially love the seals. Those babies are just too cute! Congrats on the weight loss. I need to get started....
ReplyDeleteBlessings
Kitty
Thanks for the Santa Cruz tour! The sea lions are adorable, and love the victorian houses. Glad you got to put your top down before this horrible stormy week! Oh, and congratulations about your weight loss. You must be feeling very good! --Delores
ReplyDeleteSounds like a beautiful day!
ReplyDeleteI'm finding your blog for the first time today as I have recently become obsessed with all the beautiful home decorating blogs that are out there.
Just WOW!
Your blog is beautiful and your home is lovely.
I'm also a WW member. I lost nearly 50 pounds last year. I'm at goal and living quite happily on the plan. Stick to it, enjoy life while you're at it. It works!
Thank you for taking me on such a wonderdul trip. I always look forward to trips you take us on
ReplyDeleteCindy, I love your blog. Just love it. Is there a way for me to go to the beginning and read from the first to the present?
ReplyDeleteI have gotten in the habit of checking your blog every day or two this week. I am on the central coast and the rain is just too much. I love todays new post, I love the way the pink brightens up the dining room. This is probably considered in bad taste, but, when I saw the tiered dish that your Mom gave you with the shells in it, I thought, it needs just a pop of pink, My first thought was small pink christmas balls, just peeking through, and then I thought , UH! Valentines day. I bet there are some little pink hearts out there. Or you could find some little wooden hearts in thrift shops and paint them pink.
I am so impressed with your painting projects, I have decided to redo an old table that I usually cover completely with a cloth.
Thank You so much for your wonderful blog. Congrats on the piece in Romantic homes and also on the weight loss.
I have been sitting here at the computer for over an hour reading your blog from the beginning. I love it. Every once in a while I see something that I have in my house. The little white tea pot from Germany, I got mine for only $3.00. There was a straight piece between the pot and the lid that had drain holes in it and that piece was chipped. The wicker market basket, I have one near the front door filled with silk flowers and a couple of umbrellas.
ReplyDeleteI am too tall to enjoy using it at a flea market. Your Howard Miller clock for 5 years service. I got the same clock for 30 years service.
I will have to stop for now. I am up to the middle of 2007 and very impressed with all that you have done in your house.
