Summer Decorating

This weekend I brought out my $10 silver tray that I found at the Santa Cruz Flea Market last summer and filled it with shells and candles.
It's usually cool enough here in the evenings to have candles burning but there are those really hot summer nights where I don't even want the lights on! I'm hoping we don't have very many of those this summer!
I bought the candles and the small shells at The Dollar Tree...I'm loving that place lately! They have an online store now but they don't sell everything that they have in the stores so it's better to go in if you have one nearby.
Here are the shells from The Dollar Tree, I used these and then filled in with larger shells, beach glass and moss that I already had.

  1. Lovely centerpiece, Cindy ~ so relaxing. I'm fortunate enough to have a Dollar Tree nearby. I like how you change things around ~ I have a habit of just leaving the same ol' stuff out, but I really like your idea of keeping it fresh.

  11. Looks great! I picked up the same shells from dollar tree and others that came in a small basket not long ago. I was so happy to find them after seeing the same shells for like $7 at Michaels.

  20. Love your shell tray! When i saw your tray I wondered if you saw my post from Thursday where the designers at Nell Hill's used silver trays as chargers on their table.

LOVE what you did. I am still wanting to go to Home Goods & look for the starfish you showed the other day (the one with the bumps) & that candle you put on your patio. Have a great week & keep that cool weather for us. We will be there soon. AND IT IS HOTTER THAN A FIRECRACKER HERE!

I just found a DollarTree near me.
It was fun to poke around and see what they had. All I bought was a wooden plaque to decoupage but I did see those shells. Being from Florida I have lots of shells!

I took a bunch of shells that I picked up from Sanibel Island, FL (beautiful beaches) and have them on a cake plate with a candle and then also added them in a apothecary jar...I really love the look of shells in everything..I will have to check out the Dollar Store!!

  37. Your home looks like it's in a quaint little coastal town. It looks great. I've never been to the dollar tree but will have to stop in....SOON!

  38. Sometimes the Dollar Tree has the best things. My elderly mother likes fake flowers. I needed to spruce up what she had and wanted something that looked "reasonably" real. I went to Michaels and JoAnns and found nothing. (I don't know what's up with them.)

Anyway, as a last resort I went to the Dollar Tree and scored.

  49. Candles are intrinsically connected to many events in our lives, such as birthdays, holiday dinners and religious celebrations. Recently, however, candles have become a part of our everyday lives adding warmth style and mood to every room in your home. See how the candles have managed doing this.
