What's on your coffee table?

One of my readers asked to see what's on my coffee table. I struggle with decorating my coffee table and I end up changing the things on it fairly often. I usually have flowers, either silk or fresh, decorating books and candles. Sometimes I have a lace tablecloth on it like in this picture. The table itself was free from a friend. It was the very first piece of furniture I painted white and I really didn't know what I was doing. I just sanded it and painted it but I guess I didn't get all the varnish off so now the white paint is chipping off but not in the good shabby chic way. I really need to redo this....it's on the list. My mom bought this silver and crystal piece at the flea market and then ended up giving it to me. It has a candle in it now but I've also used it as a vase for small flowers.
I showed you this piece that I bought at a thrift store awhile ago. I use it to hide the remote control.
To all you bloggers out there....let's see your coffee tables!

Thank you for all the kind comments and emails yesterday. Wow, you are all so kind! I'm doing much better today!

  1. I'm so glad you're feeling better, and you have a super cute coffee table? I have a couple of items at my house that are dinged up in the "not good" way--but I think it's just a matter of waiting until they're dinged up MORE so they look good. I've considered helping them along a bit... I wonder if that would work?

  2. Yes, I'd love to see your coffee tables. What a clever idea. I don't have a blog, or I'd show you mine. It's the largest ottoman I've even seen, upholstered (by me) in a teastained tapestry. I keep a large wood tray on the top, for our mugs and such.

Your coffee table is just splendid! Classy, feminine and useful too.

  3. Your coffee table looks lovely, and I have to say I just love the idea of hiding the remote control in such a pretty dish! I may borrow that idea if I can ever find a dish the right size.

  4. Hi Cindy
Funny I just put picture of my new coffee table on my blog, and my new sofa.
PS (I'm really a shabby girl at heart but I only have one room for me that's shabby.)

  5. Mine is currently in transition, as I'm decorating the living room for Christmas. Normally, it has crystal candleholders, a vintage bowl filled with gold glass beads....

  7. Mine usually has the latest decorating magazines and a bowl of potpourri. I have 3 cats, so putting flowers or candles is not a good option. Glad you are doing better, give Beau an extra bone for doing your blogging!:o)

So sorry about your accident. Glad you are doing better. A cold is one thing, but burns are bad.
I love your coffee table. I change mine all of the time, depending on the season or my mood.
I will try to take a picture for you.

  10. Hey Cindy, sure hope you are doing better. Your coffee table is so pretty. I usually don't do much with mine because of my pets. I've been lucky lately with the fall arrangement. I'll try to post it tomorrow :-)

Sorry to hear about your accident...your eyelashes will grow back, but perhaps not to the length they were (I'm speaking from experience here...!).

  21. Hi Cindy, I hope you are feeling a lot better today. Your coffee table looks lovely, and I really love the "remote holder"! Fabulous idea! I thought this was a fun post and decided to answer your question "what's on your coffee table?" by blogging about it too, if you'd like to see.

  24. Glad to know you are feeling fine and still blogging!

We have a large ottoman that serves as a coffee table. Usually, what I find on it's surface are Hot Wheels and Legos. . .3 boys, you know. . . . My daughter keeps her clutter in her room. :)

Stop by and see my home office debut!

  25. I had to do a double take...your coffee table and mine are almost identical! I have an ecru doily on mine with a framed photo and a lil wooden pineapple dish filled with those lil putkas and our Bible.

  27. Cindy, that was a wonderful idea to get everyone to post their coffee table toppers. I've gotten so many good ideas from seeing all these posted. And, have learned that I need to find something pretty to go on MY coffee table. I guess I am just used to seeing it and not giving much thought to it...now I think I know some things I want on it.

  28. Cindy, I so enjoy your decorating ideas. It is great fun to decorate my two coffee tables. The one in my living room is an antique butter seperator with the legs cut down. I like to put formal items, like sterling silver candlesticks, on this primative piece. On my other "regular" coffee table, I have a wrought iron apple stacker that is currently filled with mini-pumpkins and pinecones. Pretty soon I'll change the pumpkins to antique Christmas ornaments in the stacker. There is always a candle on the table and my latest treasure, presently an antique inkwell.

  29. Cindy,

I am a brand new reader, and a first time poster, of your wonderful blog. I am so impressed with your sense of style and your talent for photography. In my opinion, both are magazine-worthy!

I am enjoying catching up on past entries and am really getting such a sense of romance and charm from your posts/pictures. :-)

My coffee table currently has a selection of decorating books and magazines, remotes, an antique candy dish and an occasional stray school book.

I love where you have hid the remotes! Great idea.

  32. I don't have a blog, but this is what was written about my coffee table in our local small town House and Garden Magazine published by the local newspaper.

"What’s really amazing is how well Elaine managed to mix so many ethnic styles from all over the world, and have them blend so harmoniously, almost unnoticeably."

"On the coffee table is a perfect example. A Japanese doll with jet-black hair sits atop a black fleur-de-lis tray from France. The gold and red trim brings out the same colors in the doll’s clothing. A bamboo plant adds to the Asian flavor. A green candle enhances the green bamboo leaves. Its blue vase picks up a color in the doll’s outfit. The earth-toned, bowl-shaped candle-holder goes well with the sake set their daughter, Lauren, brought home from her travels to Japan.
Also on the tray is a mica box adorned with an Oriental-style handkerchief, and a matchbox from the Moulin Rouge."

“The secret to putting everything together is the colors. If the colors all match, you can put different things together and they look just fine,” Elaine said.

  33. What a fun idea for comments! My coffee table ideally has only a few things on it - a nice wooden dough bowl for our remotes and perhaps a coffee table book, and a lantern style candle holder (safer with cats around). But in the real world, my husband always puts a remote BESIDE the bowl instead of in it - go figure. And I usually junk up the table with all kinds of magazines and decorating books from the library :-)

  34. Your table is so pretty. Love looking at the other posters too. My coffee tables change all the time. The one in my family room usually has what ever we use the night before one it. Occasionally I put candles on it or something tall and John slides them all around to be able to see the TV so I've pretty much given up decorating it.

    Your coffee table is wonderful!

Mine usually has lots of magazines, decorating books, candles and all my husbands stuff he drops there when he comes in! *rolling eyes*

  36. What's on my coffee table? Fingerprints, lots and lots of fingerprints. I'll have to post a picture soon because it is table made by my father-in-law. It is very unusual. I'll let you know when I get my act together.

  40. My coffee table at this moment is NOT something we want to discuss. Let it suffice to say it couldn't hold coffee if it wanted to! It is actually piled high with the senior photo packages, 12 scrapbooks, 3 coffee table books, a wooden game board, and a tray with candles. I do see one horseshoe peeking thru, but only barely....
Well, thanks for reminding me to clean it off! I'll have to keep looking at yours in the meantime!
