Remember
THE PILLOW that I made and wanted to put a handkerchief on it because is was so plain? Well, I found 21 vintage hankies on eBay for $9.95 (that includes shipping). They were so inexpensive because they were in not quite perfect condition. You can barely tell there's anything wrong with them! So, I used one for my pillow and here's what I did with some of the others. I made a hankie banner by stringing ribbon across my curtain rod and draping the hankies on the ribbon. Then I just used straight pins in the back to pin them onto the ribbon. This little project added so much charm to my bedroom...I just love it! (You can click to enlarge photos)
I put them over my mirrored closet doors too. This photo was taken looking into the mirror over my dresser.
Here is the one I used for my pillow.
I could see how collecting handkerchiefs could be addicting
just like my button collecting!
Just such a fresh and delightful room Cindy! I have a small collection of handkerchiefs that were my Mother's and Grandmother's. I even have some that were mine as a child. I doubt I ever used mine...: )
ReplyDeleteI think what you did with yours is just so sweet and what a wonderful focal point. I showed your home's pictures to a friend over the weekend and she was awestruck! You are just so creative and inventive.
Your home is truly lovely.
Hugs,
Sue
Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh! I would say it again, but you get the picture!!!!! I'm so excited I can hardly wait to hunt out the hankies and copy this idea if you don't mind!!! I have handkerchiefs my both grandmothers, from aunts, from Ebay! I just love them and never ever say anything done as cute as this. Your bedroom is amazing anyway, but this was the little perfect icing to the top of the roses! Did you notice the photo of your closet doors with the reflection of your bed. From that angle it looks like your bed is inside there, in one of those lovely princess alcoves behind the curtains.... See? It's lovely. Your whole blog is fabulous, and this idea is simply divine! Ribbon, where's my ribbon? Hugs!
ReplyDeletep.s. you can tell I'm excited. I can't spell and evidently can't speak if you try to read that post! Duh... spellchecker, where's my spellchecker! Ha!
ReplyDeletevery sweet, and they look perfectly at ease in your beautiful cottage. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour room is wonderful! The hanky banners are perfect and I love the pillow with the "new" addition of just the right hanky. You do such a nice job with your decorating. Want to come to my house?

ReplyDeleteYour room was pretty to begin with and you just keep making it better and better!
ReplyDeleteWish I had some hankies to sell on e-bay, your post just may drive the market for them through the roof ;) Of course, I would have to keep enough of them to make a couple of banners for our house before I sold them.....

How beautiful! I too am a hankie lover and had to find a way to really enjoy them. I strung them as a banner over my fireplace and used them as a border all the way around my bedroom. I even use them overlapping on my bedside tables in a doily fashion. Ahhhhh the many uses of hankies.
ReplyDeleteYour boudoir looks magnificent!
Cindy~ I love your hankie hanging/banner...I'm going to our Canton Trades Day this weekend..their are these guys there that sell tables full of linens..they have one table with just vintage hankies piled high as the sky! I'll have to get me some like yours! Love your idea!
