Carmel, California

Thank you all for your well wishes yesterday! Lauren and I are feeling better now, although we still aren't feeling 100%. I did call McDonalds and the County Health Department regarding the food poisoning but I guess I'll never know if it was really food poisoning or the flu. I still think it was food poisoning because I think it's odd that we would get sick within an hour of each other if it were the flu. I also heard that the only flu going around right now is the H1N1 (swine flu) and we had completely different symptoms from that.
I was really looking forward to this little day trip to Carmel but I didn't get to spend as much time there as I wanted. We got a late start, we didn't leave until 1:00 pm. It's only about 1 hour and 15 minutes away so I figured even leaving that late that we would be able to spend most of the afternoon and early evening there. I didn't anticipate that the traffic would be so bad...it took us 2 hours and 45 minutes to get there and then we couldn't find parking and had to drive around at least another 15 minutes!
The good thing is once you are there and walking around town you forget all that! Carmel is such a wonderful place! Just being there puts me in a good mood! It's my absolute favorite place in California! I think I'm going to take another trip down there in a month or so when it's not so crowded.
I'll have more Carmel pictures for you tomorrow!

  2. I have always thought of Carmel as my favorite spot in the entire US (not just California). I'm from Illinois and don't get out there as much as I'd like... but it sure is beautiful! Glad you had a good day.

  7. Oh Cindy, I want to go back to Carmel. It is one of my favorite places in the world. I recognize the places in the photos and those flowers - oh my! We don't have flowers like that in Phoenix. I may even rent the movie "Play Misty for Me" with Donna Mills and Clint Eastwood. You know it was filmed in one of those houses along the beach.

Have you been to Casanova's? Love that place, especially for Sunday brunch. And the lavendar bundles they sell outside. Oh my see what you started? LOL.

    Glad you're feeling better.

  9. I LOVE Carmel! I usually get there in July when it's seriously cold there. But, probably not as crowded. Even then, parking is difficult. I love so many shops there. Have you been to the teeny tiny sewing shop?

  15. Cindy,
I love Carmel! I've only been there once but it made a lasting impression on me! I love all the charm, the ocean and quaint little cottages. It's as close to heaven as I can imagine!
One of the great things about it, beside the scenery is all the beautiful flowers! We ate at a place call the clambox (?) and the food was excellent. It was expensive but worth it. I could spend a week there and never tire of all the lovely things to look at. Also we drove down to Big Sur. I loved that, too. I didn't, however, like driving over all the high bridges on the highway. The scenery was magnificent and Pfiefer State Beach was beautiful. We were there in August and it was very cool. Can't wait to see more of your pictures. Did you get to the Mission? They had the most beautiful bougainvilleas there.
    Thanks for sharing!

  17. Hello Cindy,

Carmel looks beautiful! I have never had any desire to visit California, not even when I was offered a one week free stay at The Bissell House in South Pasadena. Now I regret it because the tours you give us are so beautiful. Now I will have to add California to my list of places to go!

Glad to hear you are feeling much better.

  18. So glad you and Lauren are feeling better. What a nasty end to a lovely day with your daughter. Your pictures bring my special memories of my ex and me in Carmel. Carmel was where I saw the Pacific for the first time. Just the name makes me smile. Thank you for the lovely pictures and will be stopping by tomorrow for more. I love the detail your camera shows, the roof on the home has such texture. Take care both of you.

Thanks for sharing the Carmel photos, one of my favorite CA. spots. I have been to that area years ago with first hubby and it was so great! I would love to do it again but without him, LOL!

  25. Glad that you and Lauren are over the worst & feeling better. If you had gone to Carmel just one week earlier, I would have seen you there! We drove down from SFO for the day, did the 17-mile drive & had lunch at the Hog's Breath Inn. The weather was perfect too. I now know why people love Carmel so much. You're very lucky to live so close to the beauty that is the Monterey Peninsula. Sue in FL

  34. I got married on 17 Mile Drive, so Carmel is a favorite vacation spot for us! My favorite hotel is the Fireplace Inn. Each room has a fireplace, and they serve Irish Oatmeal for breakfast! Yummy!
