About 4 years ago I quickly made this kitchen valance out of a piece of toile fabric I found in the remnants section of the fabric store and lined it with a solid blue curtain panel I already had. It was supposed to be just a temporary fix until I figured out what I really wanted to do for this kitchen window. Here it is 4 years later and it's still there and I still have no idea what I want to replace it with. One of my readers recently emailed me to ask how I made it. Well...It couldn't be any simpler, it's just a rectangle that I pulled up with two strips of ribbon. I lined it so it would look nice from the outside and left a small section open to slip a rod through and then stitched just below the rod. I still love the fabric and someday I would like to find more of it and make something a little nicer but who knows, that may be 4 years down the road.
It is perfect! Your home reflects all the love and beauty inside your heart. Please join our blog party...I'm serving French Tarts in the garden...saving one for you, Cindy!

I LOVE your kitchen! The valance fabric is so pretty. Isn't it amazing how fast time goes by. I thought for sure my home would be just the way I've always wanted it to be by now, but it's not even close, ugh.
ReplyDeleteIt looks as good as new and beautiful! I hope you keep it for another 4+ years! You have a swett kitchen Cindy!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Maryjane
Your curtains are so pretty! I have to say that I just read about Marthas Vineyard in your previous post and wanted to tell you that it has been a dream of mine to go there and if noone else shows up for a bloggers meeting there you can bet I will show up!! I think I used to live there in my other life, LOL!

It looks beautiful with those plates. Connie
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric, Cindy! You know, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". I think "it ain't broke"; if you're happy with it, I'd leave it as is.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful Cindy! Love the pretty colors. I would leave it as well. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine anything prettier or that would coordinate so well with your lovely plates and white kitchen. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteCindy, love those curtains! The plate to the left, is it the blue onion pattern?
ReplyDeleteWell I know how you feel. I have been thinking of changing up my window too in the Kitchen. I have been toying with the idea, of full curtains, but not sure if I want fabric, or a lacy curtain.
ReplyDeleteI too have blinds, so they would stay, but just something else instead of a valance. Pour through your books Cindy, I am sure you'll come up with a better idea.
Ciao
I had blue and cream toile cloth napkins over a rod, as a valance in our kitchen for seven years. If we had a kitchen window in this home, I would have rehung the napkins. Sometimes simple is best.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks perfect but I know how you feel...it is nice to have a change every few years.
ReplyDelete~Patti
I think it is gorgeous and looks perfect. I wouldn't change a thing. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI recently changed out my valance for a table b/w toile topper that I doubled over a tension rod. I also used black grosgrain ribbon to pull it up a bit. No money necessary as I had it all at home already! It's nice to change things up a bit.
ReplyDeleteMelanie@Bella~Mella
that's definitely cute!
ReplyDeleteI love that curtain. I love your bathroom balloon curtain too. Both just add so much beauty to the rooms. Did you ever consider balloon curtains in the kitchen. Perhaps the same or similiar fabric as the kitchen ones now? If you do make a change, don't get rid of that curtain, it's too pretty and you could always change back once in awhile.
ReplyDeleteOh Cindy; Even though it has been 4 yrs, I just think they are so pretty up there... I love you pretty kitchen, it is just lovely....

Hi Cindy! I just love your curtain! It looks like the one I made for my kitchen. Except mine is red toile. :) I always love your posts because they are full of great inspirations for us all.

Hi Cindy! I love your curtains! Sometimes simple is so much better. Classic toile is one of my favorite patterns and your pretty curtains add just the right touch to your kitchen. Beautiful! ~ xo Joy
ReplyDeleteI love your kitchen, it warms my heart.

Hey...why mess with something so perfect?!! ;) (Amazing how times flies, huh? My sisters & I have started to say, "I think it was just last year...or 5 years ago...")
ReplyDeletem ^..^
The white kitchen with the blue top wall looks really pretty together.
ReplyDeleteWendy
I love it - no changes needed! :)
ReplyDeleteThey look lovely. Thank you for taking the time to explain how you made them. xx
ReplyDeleteCindy it looks perfect and there is no need to change it.
ReplyDeleteAlison
It looks great. I love the fabric!
ReplyDeleteit is all so beautiful, I do own the same plates and would love my kitchen like that!! we have so much in common...sometimes it looks like I am seeing my own house..or at least how I would want it...

ReplyDeleteJust stumbled upon your blog and I love the tagline...its speaks to me and translates "have more fun with our home".
I could look at pictures of your home All day...
ReplyDeleteChris
It looks great with the plates.
ReplyDeleteLove love the valance...so fresh and pretty!! The chandy is so elegant, but the chalkboard is gorgeous. Did you add the ledge to a frame or was it that way when you found it!!
ReplyDeleteLove to see where the cupcakes are created... Thanks for sharing!!
Cindy, it looks so pretty there! I can't think of anything that would look nicer. You know I love your blue and white!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I think it looks great! Your kitchen looks so fresh and clean! You are lucky to have such a large window above your sink.
ReplyDeleteI think the valance looks so cute and it goes with the plates and the other blue items you have on the counter. I was looking at the chandlier you have hanging over the sink and wonder how you hid the cord. It looks so nice.
ReplyDeleteCindy: Sometimes the simple things are the most beautiful. Your valances are just that, beautiful. Why fix something if it is not broken? Martha
ReplyDeleteI love your curtains just like they are. They go perfect with your beautiful kitchen.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Lee Laurie
Cindy,
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen looks so beautiful. It just makes me happy to look at it and I love the toile.
Jill@CottageSisters
Thanks so much for the idea. I absolutly love your site and come here daily and get lost. I guess I would have to watch a step by step tutorial on the curtain because I dont know how to get the ribbon to draw it up. Kath'
ReplyDeleteKath, it's really easy, you just throw the ribbon over the top of the curtain rod and then bring the piece in the back, under the curtain and tie it to the end that hangs in the front.
ReplyDeleteHello Cindy - what a pretty kitchen you have! Love that valance you made. The fabric is perfect! And the chandelier is beautiful! And I see a glimpse of a neat chalkboard too! =) Wishing you a great week ahead.

Marie
