Have you planted any bulbs this fall? I finally went and got some yesterday and they were 25% off! (at OSH for you local bloggers). I got the paperwhites (narcissus) to "force" indoors. I usually do this by putting them in small pebbles with water but this year I decided to plant them in dirt potting soil. Soon I'll have beautiful blooms inside my apartment.
The other bulbs will be planted in my garden and I can hardly wait to see them blooming in the Spring! If you want more info on forcing bulbs click here.
I LOVED reading all the comments yesterday! I'm glad I'm not the only one doing that! Also, I just want to clarify...that was my apartment in those pictures! I think at least one person thought I was taking pictures of someone else's home and I would NEVER do that (at least not up that close)!

That's one thing about you, Cindy, you're honest. I was in Target on Sunday and saw that they had the Amaryllis bulbs out. They are so nice for the holidays. I'm sure that yours will be beautiful. I hadn't thought about planting bulbs. I have a dreaded squirrel or two that live nearby..I guess if I planted jonquils they wouldn't eat them as I think they are poisonous. Look forward to seeing what yours will be like when they bloom.

I love bulbs when they are forced in the house - they always look so amazing at Christmastime!! Enjoyed your post at peeking in windows. My mother always enjoyed going for a drive at dusk before people closed their curtains - guess I'm following in her footsteps! Sally
ReplyDeleteI love indoor bulbs in winter. I am hoping my amaryllis will survive to rebloom, but only time will tell. I have a couple hyacinth already rooted waiting anxiously for some growth.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love bulbs and when they are on sale that's even better! I, too laughed about looking in windows yesterday. I thought I was the only one that loved to see people's home furnishings at dusk!
ReplyDeleteI didn't comment yesterday because the line to the ladies' room was just too long, Cindy. You are a popular gal. Yes, I love to stare into lighted homes at night while driving by. So cozy and you imagine them all living happy lives. A blogging friend sent me narcissus bulbs from her garden this year, which are already coming up. I think my house is too dark for bulbs, until Robert gets those French doors in. Then Katy bar the damned door!

I love bulbs too, but watch the paperwhites, they will stink so badly that you will have to put them outside!
ReplyDeleteThe voles ate over 50 of my tulip bulbs last winter so I am not going to feed them this year. I am out of sorts with them!!!!
Great idea! I planted paperwhites years ago & then forgot about them. I'm off to OSH for bulbs! :0} Diane
ReplyDeleteMmmm....I've never had a problem with the smell of paperwhites? I have 100 Jonquils that I'm planting outside. I love using paperwhites and amaryllis in my Christmas decorating.

I love the look of paperwhites but I hate the smell! Do you do something special so they don't smell?
ReplyDeleteLOL! That was me Cindy! I thought you grabbed the camera out! LOL! I have been looking for bulbs too, but right now ours are still full price. I'll try and be patient!
ReplyDeleteI think some people don't like the smell of paperwhites and some do. I don't mind the scent but they are strong. I once had them on the table as a centerpiece and one of my dinner guests asked me to move them! I now know not to use them on a dining room table while we are eating!
ReplyDeleteThat would be pretty funny...If you did get really close to someones window to take pictures. OMGosh--I think they would be a little weary. Can you imagine? (lol) Scary.
ReplyDeleteBut I guess it's no different with my rubber neck while walking by homes in the evening.
I better get to the nursery and buy some bulbs for spring.
I have never tried this... Thanks to you I just might! I'm sure we will be seeing some very lovely pictures of them! : )

There is nothing like the smell of paper whites durning the holiday season.. have not planted yet.. need to .. thanks for the reminder...
ReplyDeleteGrins from TExAS!
Dear Miss Cindy,
ReplyDeleteYou know I recognized it immediately as your apartment. After all, I'm the girl that was looking for your reflection in the bottle stopper a month ago.
So cool. I am one person that loves to see warm lights on in someones home. Not flourescent... but real lights. When it is dark outside and there are lights on the porch or in the front of the house, it always looks so inviting and comforting.
Good night,
Penny Sue
I haven't planted any bulbs this year. I must organize my garden before I put more money into it LOL.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a nice day.
Love Elzie
I love Amaryllis and paperwhites at the holidays. I do find the paperwhites a little overpowering in small rooms, so I place them in larger areas. What can you say-beautiful blooming flowers in the middle of Winter is a wonderful gift. (Especially here in the Northeast)
