I got the dinner plates for $2 each and the salad plates for $1.50 each! What a deal! I bought one of these turkey candy dishes a couple weeks ago and I found another one yesterday and it was also 50% off...only $3.50 (click on the photos to see the turkey up close...he's so cute)
Last night I had so much fun trying to figure out how I'm going to set my table for Thanksgiving. The turkey candy dishes will be soup bowls. My son, Vince, is making roasted butternut squash soup. I remember a long time ago...I think in the early 80s, Martha Stewart used turkey candy dishes as soup bowls and I always wanted to copy that idea! I still need to find 2 more of these so I will be hitting every Marshalls and TJ Maxx store in Silicon Valley this weekend! If I don't find two more I'll just mix and match with some white soup bowls I already have. Here's a close-up of the turkey plates...
Gorgeous place settings Cindy. What a find on those plates. And thanks so much on the Vintage and Vogue find. It's my new favorite place. The owners are so nice. I could spend a lot of time and money in a place like this!
ReplyDeleteReally nice! It will certainly make for a beautiful table. I might have to hit Marshalls this week end. I particularly like the turkey candy dishes. It looks as good or better than MS. Again, you have outdone yourself!!!!
ReplyDeleteSandyt

Mimi
Cindy that is so funny because I went to Marshalls yesterday also and saw the same plates, and of course I thought of you! I almost bought them but changed my mind, as it was I spent way more than I should have, $75.00 with a blink of an eye.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new plates,
ginger
I've seen those plates at my TJ Maxx. They are lovely and PERFECT for your table. Blue and white, who would have thought that would make such a pretty Thanksgiving table.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Joanne
What a great idea using the turkeys as soup bowls. They are super cute. I'll keep my eye open for them just in case you don't find them. Do you know whether those candy dishes will withstand the heat of the soup or not?
ReplyDeleteCindy you table looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea using the turkey candy dishes. Just leave it to you and Martha.
Becky
I love blue and white dishes. The turkey plates are beautiful! I may have to talk my hubby into going to TJMaxx on our little road trip this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteA very lovely table setting and I love the blue & white and the turkey candy dish as a soup bowl. Wishing you a grand holiday.
ReplyDeleteThe blue and white turkey plates are perfect for your beautiful home! I think I saw those beautiful plates or some very similar at Home Goods! Love that store!! It all looks beautiful Cindy!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful, Cindy!
ReplyDeleteCindy,
ReplyDeleteI have those exact ones in red and also in the multi-color. I collected them over the past few years at TJ Max & Marshall's. Now, I have a mix & match service for 24 (which good since I have 21 for dinner on T-giving!)
I also collected the turkey "soup/candy" servers in red, gold and green (I only have 12 so far)...I collected them at Williams Sonoma, Big Lots & Target. Now I'll have to rush over to Marshalls and TJ to see if I can find more! Thanks for the tip on that! I haven't used them for soup but what a great idea! I've used them for cranberry relish, dips, seasoned butters....
If I can collect at least 9 more then I can use them for soup! How great!
Your table looks beautiful!
BTW....my Vince will be home from PhDLand....he will be frying one of the turkeys. He's very excited about his recipe this year....he hasn't divulged it to me! And, he's brewing beer while he's home so it's ready for Christmas.
He'll be home in a few hours (traveling through snowy mountains right now!)....I can't wait to see him!
Your post today has me feeling so warm and fuzzy (and excited!)....
Judi

ReplyDeleteHi Cindy -
ReplyDeleteI've never seen blue and white Thanksgiving plates. I love them! If I could find some we would have a blue and white Thanksgiving, too. I'm going to use my all-the-time white dishes and dress them up with color in the tablecloth, placemats and accessories. Thanks for sharing your new pretties with us today.
~Adrienne~
What a buy you got. Ilove them. What a beautiful and welcoming Thanksgiving table you will have. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteJean in Virginia
You and Marshalls need to work out a deal, Cindy. You're always plugging them with things you buy. And you should be compensated in some way. I love your table setting. I'm not good with that type of thing. But I admire others' handiwork!
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Very cute dishes! I have one of those turkeys... I saw it used for gravy, but we use ours for cranberry sauce, it's perfect. :) I always look forward to bringing it out for Thanksgiving! :)
ReplyDeleteJust stunning, Cindy! I'm not really into fall colors either, so I especially love those blue & white turkey plates! The border is so soft. You'll have the whole country searching for some turkey plates and the pretty glass turkey dish this weekend :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend!!
Karin
Wow, you get the Super Shopper award for that! They are beautiful, Cindy, and your entire table setting looks gorgeous! And how wonderful that your son can make the soup. My son can make microwave pizza, but somehow that's not really thanksgiving material... ;)
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Mary
Cindy, beautiful, as usual! You have the best ideas.
ReplyDeleteUsually I'd be a bit stressed about Thanksgiving by now, but this year I am putting my feet under my brother's and darling sister-in-law's table. All I have to do is show up - with a thoughtful gift - and I'm done!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Bev
Hi Cindy:
ReplyDeleteI just saw those same plates in Las Vegas when I was at Marshalls.
They are so pretty. I didn't see the candy turkey dish though. It all looks great together. I think it's neat that your son will help you cook. Have fun.

I love those turkey plates!! Did they come in red?? :) Last month I found a same type of sale at our "Marshalls" type store here in Canada - it's called HomeSense. I love blue and white china and the border on the turkey plates looks similar to the border on my "Liberty Blue" china. I may have to find a TJ Maxx, even though I am planning to use my green and white china on Thanksgiving.

If I were you, I'd race over to Marshall's and get 4 more plates, they're awesome! I'm no fan of dozens of plates and patterns and what not, but those are awesome for the occasion!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd are you sure the candy dish turkey's will stand the hot soup??? It would be a shame if they cracked and you had the mess on the table...
A beautiful table - love the turkey candy dishes you plan to use for soup bowls. Gorgeous plates and a great bargain!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving...Kathy
