Show and Tell Friday!

Pin It Now!

Welcome to Show and Tell Friday!  This has been an emotionally exhausting week for me.  In between the tears and feeling sorry for myself, I've been fine-tuning my resume and looking through job postings!

I submitted my first resume...and guess where I sent it? Google!!!  I actually used to work in one of the Google buildings before Google moved in there! I still have a lot more resumes to send out but it feels good to get started!

Since this has been a horrible week, getting laid off and all...I'm just sharing an old photo that has been on my blog before.  Show and Tell is more about you guys anyway!  We had over 400 bloggers linking up last week! WhooHooo...That was a record!

I just want to say thanks to all of you that left kind comments and sent me job info!  I'm feeling pretty confident now, much more so than I was just a day ago!  I haven't looked at my resume in years and I pulled it out this morning and I have to say I impressed myself! Haha! I've been fortunate to work at some really great companies and acquire some great experience!  At least that's one of the positive things of getting older! Experience!!!

If you are joining in on Show and Tell Friday, please remember that your Show and Tell needs to be something from your home or garden.  If you would like to join in, please enter your name and leave your exact Show and Tell blog post link, not just your blog link and as a common courtesy link back to my blog.

Thanks to all of you that join in every week!

Oh Goodness, thank you for doing this, it seems so trivial compared to what you are going through. I have been there and I was devastated. You have permission to feel sorry for yourself, it seems so many people get laid off this time of year, which makes it even worse. Wow, Google would be quite the job!

My goodness!!! I'm so sorry! I've been in your shoes most definitely! Being laid off is what started me blogging!!! I've been so busy with everything, I haven't linked in a few weeks.....Keep your chin up! It's so scary not to have a job. Such a bummer about your job! I'm sorry to hear it!
My Dad and his wife live in the Bay area and both work for Kaiser. My Dad does R&D and Kaiser has a HUGE technical dept.
They did have cutbacks 1-2 yrs ago, but are growing and hiring again. Maybe that will help? Just thought I'd throw it out there.
Good luck!

I was wondering if you'd post and then, there you are, and all I wanted to say was "Atta, girl!" because, you know what they say, the cream rises to the top. You're gonna do just fine, Cindy. Maybe this is all just part of The Plan with everything else new in your life in the last couple of years, who knows? Kind of exciting to see how it turns out...energizing, huh! Turn fear into fabulousness! Refuse to be a statistic 'cause you're a standout! (And I think that's quite enough exclamation points but, ya know, I'm just happy you didn't stay in the fetal position for too long. Last job layoff of mine, I sat about six hours in the dark house, hugged my dog and cried my eyes out. It's definitely no laughing matter. But, pretty soon, dog's gotta be fed, gotta turn a light on so you can get out his dog bowl...you get up, dust yourself off and start all over again. It's what we do, and we humans are good at it. Like I said, you'll do fine.)

I saw an really cool documentary several years ago about the incredible employee benefits at Google. On-site dentists and dry cleaners, free massages, organic restaurants, employee appreciation happy hours and even free plug-in if you drive an electric car! I hope you get a great job there! I always dreamed that I could be the person who plans all of their events and parties :)

You are going through one of the LEAST FUN times for anyone -- in 2010 my husband got let go in a wholesale cleanout of personnel by the big Wall Street firm he was with -- not fun.

It took 6 months, but he landed on his feet, and so will you. You are too talented and experienced; the right job must be out there, and it just has to find you.

Best of luck -- Cass

Cindy - I was laid-off in 2010 from an Admin position I held for 8 years. After 10 months I hired-on and the new position pays more and my boss/co-workers are awesome. Believe in who you are and what you can do - it will shine through. I was 58 years old and looking for work BUT knew I had great skills. Something even better is around the corner for you.

Wow, that's an interesting comment from one of your other blogger friends about the perks at google. Nothing like that is anywhere near where I live. At least you're in an area where stuff is happening! I am going to wish extra hard for you to get your foot in the door at google; sounds unbelievable! I moved out of state once and there was really only one big, desirable employer in the suburbs where I lived and that's where I wanted to work because I didn't want the hectic commute into the city every day. Everybody said I'd no way, never get a job there; you have to know somebody AND you have to be "local." Old-money, formal, 100-year-old company at the time I lived there; company town, multi-hundreds of employees on site at HQ. So, I sat on that for awhile, chewed on it some more, and thought, "what do I have to lose?" I sent in a "cold" resume, figuring it would be round-filed, but it just so happened that a new corporate VP, from out of the area, didn't want a homegrown employee due to confidentiality/patents (etc.) and I, a skilled newbie to the area, was precisely what he wanted. Sometimes it's all in the timing. Don't turn down any leads; follow your gut. (But I'm still rooting for google!)
