Show and Tell Friday - 1 year anniversary!

I can't believe it's already been a year since I took over Show and Tell Fridays...time flies! It's been a great year and it's been fun seeing the list of participants growing steadily! Last week we had a record of 213 bloggers joining in! Whoohoo! Thank you all so much! If you have a blog, this is a great way to get more visitors to your site!

It has been so hot here in California this week!  I just don't feel like doing anything except being a couch potato!  Luckily it's starting to cool down today!
Because I was so lazy this week, I'm sharing some old photos of my garden conservatory made by Linda ~Linda's Blue Gate. You can find her link over on my right sidebar!  When you walk through my front door you can see it out on my back patio! It's oh-so-charming!
I just bought some purple mums today on my lunch hour to put in there for Autumn to replace the hydrangea in the photo above which died long ago when we had a heat wave and I forgot to water it!

My Friend Kim told me about this great site today and I thought I would share it with all of you! There are some great deals but it's only for certain areas of the country....

Goldstar: "Check out this site I found called Goldstar. They have half-price tickets and member reviews of concerts, sports, theater and more.
I'm already a member! https://www.goldstar.com/join?p=F1505334RB"

Ornate Details: Love them or hate them?

Just by looking around my home, anyone could easily figure out that I'm really drawn to ornate details!

I think they are one of those things you either love or hate. I think most of you probably love them as much as I do though!

Show and Tell Friday and I'm 50!!!

It's Show and Tell Friday and it's my birthday (on Friday)! The big 50!

This week has been crazy so I'm sharing something I've shown on my blog before...one of my favorite antique tablecloths that my mom has passed down to me.

Although I usually use my vintage tablecloths, this one is so beautiful I'm afraid to use it! Maybe some day when I'm serving just vanilla cake and vanilla ice cream, I will get brave enough!  This photo does not do it justice...it's so sheer and delicate looking! It reminds me of a wedding dress!  Such a beautiful piece of art!

Happy First Day of Autumn!

Autumn, originally uploaded by Romantic Home.

It's the first day of Autumn and I know that makes many of us so happy! It's such a wonderful time of the year! It doesn't really start to feel like Autumn here in Northern California until about mid October though.

It's the first day of Autumn but it's the last day of my 40s! Tomorrow I will be 50! I'm fine with it because I have a feeling that my 50s are going to be amazing! I really think I've found the secret to happiness! Do you want to know what it is? YOU MAKE YOUR OWN HAPPINESS! It's easy and it's amazing! It really works!

Happy Autumn everyone!!! and to my friends "down under" Happy Spring!

What a Wonderful World!

I started making this movie (from photos) on my mac months ago and tonight I finally sat down and finished it! I used one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite singers for the background music on this! What a Wonderful World sung by the late, Eva Cassidy! I love this song, it really makes you appreciate the little things in life!

Show and Tell Friday!

Did you get into the knitting craze a few years back?  I've actually been knitting for a long time but I'm not consistent with it.  When I was in my early 20s my goal was to knit an Irish Knit sweater and I did!  It even had small pockets on the front!  I still have it in fact!  Once I finished my goal sweater I didn't knit for awhile and then in my 30s I went through another knitting spurt and made about 5 sweaters then stopped again.  These days I tend to do quick projects like scarfs or when ponchos were really in a few years back I made about 5 of those...then donated them to the Goodwill when they went out of style so quickly!
I started this scarf for Lauren a couple years ago and my plan is to finish it before winter! It would be already finsihed but she wants it really long so I just keep knitting and knitting and knitting!  This pattern is called an Irish Hiking Scarf (If you click on that it will take you to the pattern). It's fairly easy if you already know how to knit cables and cables aren't really as hard as they look if you don't know how yet!

This time of year I always get the urge to knit! There is something so relaxing about it!

Can you help?

My friend Karen(left) is doing the 3-day Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure October 1-3, 2010. This photo above was taken with her best friend, Nance(right) last year when they did the walk together.  Three weeks after this Nance was was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and had a mastectomy on December 16th of last year and has been going through chemotherapy for the past six months. Luckily she caught it very early!

Karen has raised 48% of her goal of $2,300 so far.  I offered to spread the word for her and see if I could help her out a little. Click here to visit her donation page and thank you so much to anyone that helps out!

Also, check out my product review page. I was asked to write about a new show on ABC called "No Ordinary Family."  Leave a comment over there on what super power you would love to have!

I'll have Show and Tell Friday up tonight at 6pm PST!

Enoteca La Storia

Last week a date took me to a place I had never been before, Enoteca La Storia in Los Gatos, California.  I I was really impressed with this place and even more so when I heard that Joe, one of the owners, constructed most of this place himself! He built all these wine shelves!

The floor looks like old salvaged wood but it isn't, he distressed it himself...
We sat at the bar and had wine and cheese. I took my friend Becky there last night and we had already had dinner but the sandwiches they were making looked amazing! I'll have to go back for one of those!

He made this wine glass holder from copper pipe and then got the beautiful patina by applying acid.

The owners, Joe and Mike have included many photos of their families...

Aren't these wine tags cute?

Here are the owners, Joe and Mike...
If you area in the area I highly recommend a visit here!

Enoteca La Storia
416 North Santa Cruz Ave.
Los Gatos, CA 95030

Next door to Enoteca La Storia is a beautiful shop called Bianco. It's full of beautiful white things so of course I loved it!  The owner wouldn't allow me to take photos inside, which I understand...they are very creative and their ideas would just be duplicated elsewhere if they were posted on a blog.

I highly recommend a visit to both these places if you are in the area!

Capitola Art and Wine Festival

I had such a great weekend, it was a girl's weekend away!  We stayed at a friend's beach house in Aptos, California which is only about 30 minutes away from us. We got there Saturday afternoon and stopped at Trader Joes for lots of snack food which we ate for dinner along with some very good margaritas!  Later that evening we all went out dancing! We had a blast!
Sunday afternoon we went to the Capitola Art and Wine Festival!  I brought my camera along to share it with you!
Aren't these glass pumpkins so beautiful?
Capitola is a cute little beach town with lots of shops...

The only bad thing about the day was that the sun never came out. It was foggy all day!

The weekend went by so fast but we had so much fun!
