Work in Progress...

I've been wanting to paint my bedroom for years. That blue paint I had in there previously photographed a lot better than it actually looked in person. I never did like it and I'm not sure what took me so long but it's finally gone! And I'm so happy!

It looks rather boring in here now because I'm not finished. I'll be adding light blue drapes on the window and I'm going to cover the mirrored closet doors with matching drapes. It will be a pain to open the drapes everytime I want to get in the closet but worth it I think. I love mirrors...but not big massive mirrored closet doors with shiny silver metal all around them!
I moved this small table from next to my bed to this empty space to the left of the closet and then I brought up a mirror I had at the bottom of my staircase to hang over it. I've since brought up this small chair to put in front of the table so I can use it as a vanity. That chair draped in a throw to the right of the closet is the Bergere chair that I got for $35 on craigslist. That is a project I need to get started on! It will look great there when I'm finished!
The color on the walls is Behr Paint~Sandstone Cove. In person there is more of a difference between the furniture and the wall color. I still need to paint the trim white and I think that will make the color pop more.

The toile pillows will not stay because I have those on my couch downstairs. I will be adding more blue accent color here and there. I think I'm going to go with more of a Robin's Egg Blue in here but I'm still not sure.
My dad is making me a bed crown which will go at the top of the wall close to the ceiling and I'll drape fabric from it to the outside of my headboard for a more romantic look and to fill up space on that massive wall.

I wasn't planning on going with a beach theme but as I was pulling things from other areas in my apartment it just worked out that way.

It works for now...

I know it looks a little "plain vanilla" right now but I think when it's finished it will have a very elegant feel.

Did you notice that the Duvet looks different in the different photos? It's a Simply Shabby Chic Duvet from Target (although I bought mine cheaper on eBay). I wasn't sure if I like the fufu-iness of it so I turned it over. Which do you like better?

  2. Hey Cindy - think I like the smooth side up on the duvet. Beautiful both ways, but the smooth side appears to blend well with the very calming color you have on the wall now! I think the white trim will be super and well as the drape across the mirrored closet! Can't wait to see it all finished!!!!

  5. It's looking lovely Cindy!

And I think the "fufu-iness" side is a very good textural element!

I love the whole bedroom and the fufu side. Where did you get the crocheted bedskirt? I've been looing for something like that for my own bed. The vanity area is very clever. The bedroom is so restful that I'm ready to take a nap now!

  7. Beautiful room...Love the urn of shells and pearls! I like the fufu side of the duvet.

  8. I don't think it looks "plain vanilla" at all, Cindy! Personally, I like it. It seems a quiet, soothing, soft and relaxing place to be. I do love your toile pillows on the bed, but a robins egg blue would look wonderful, too. I don't think the mirrored closet doors are too bad ~ they keep it light and open, but if you hate looking at it, go for it!

  9. Your room is gorgeous. What a retreat! :-) The Lilacs are a nice touch... I can almost smell them through the screen.

  10. Hi cindy, I almost have the same bed cover in a grey blue colour. I found it an thrift shop for $5. I have mine with ruffled side up. I think it looks great that way.

  11. How beautiful! REALLY love the shells and I like the smooth side of the duvet! Very pretty....perfect bedroom! ♥

  12. Your room is gorgeous. I love the new color and the white trim will make it pop for sure. Love the shells too. I think I like the duvet turned over to the plain side. It looks more elegant that way I think. Hugs, Marty

  17. So dreamy & romantic!! Love your bedroom :) I think both ways work with the Duvet. You can change it back and forth as your heart desires. Thank you for sharing your lovely and beautiful bedroom with us. Warmest, Brenda

  19. I love the fufu side up, but as others have said you can always change it when you are in the mood. You are so talented and I love the beach theme. My bedroom is also beachy but in a much more bold way.

  20. Cindy amor, your bedroom looks so beautiful, elegant and serene..like a suite in a beautiful bed & bath! How you must smile when you wake up to all this beauty :)I love everything that you have done and don't think that it looks too vanillay, I actually think it looks so summery, a place I would want to just lay in all morning and enjoying the beauty of it :) I bet it smells so good in there with those lilacs! I wanted to ask if you by chance had a close up picture of that pretty birdcage in the corner of your room by your nightstand? I have one like that, found at the thrift painted red and I wanted to see how pretty it would look painted white and distressed :) I have a wrought iron one too that I realized I didn't want after all, and need to figure out what to do with that one now too lol Hope you had a beautiful weekend and enjoyed some of our Cali sunshine :) Besos, Rose

ps...if you get a moment, please visit my lil blog and tell me what you think of it's new look :) Thank you !

  21. Oh, I agree with the others. I, too, like the fufu side! More texture, I believe.

  22. Love the new wall colour! And I think the detailed side of the duvet looks better- more texture and interest. :-)Very pretty!

  23. I like your duvet both ways for different reasons. Maybe use the plain side in the Summer and the textured side in the Winter. The textured side is beautiful, but makes me think of getting cozy and adding more ruffles and lace. The plain side is simpler more for the warm weather with breezes blowing in through the windows. Does this make sense?

  24. I love it. It looks so different from your other room, that I also loved.

I think the beach look is nice mixed in with the touch of romantic that you have going. Can't wait to see it all done.

I have those same type of closet doors and I hate them too. Can't wait to see what you do with yours to hide them.

    Hugs

  25. Cindy~ I love your bedroom,it is
going to be beautiful when you get
through. I like the textured side
up,but I also like the other too.
I guess when you get tired of it
one way you could always change it.
I am like you, I don't like the big
mirrors either. I would put drapes
too if nothing else sheers or something on big rings so they would be ease access to the closet.
Your white trim is a very good idea
and the reason I say that our room
is about that color and I painted white trim and it made a huge difference. Good luck and I can't wait to see all of it when it is
    done.:O)

Your bedroom is just beautiful. Can't wait to see it all finished. You do fabulous work. Have fun, Vicky

  31. I like the fufu side better. It looks more elegant; the plain side reminds me of the battenburg lace and seems a little more dated. Love the mirror and table next to the closet; it's very pretty with the flowers. Overall, I think it's a nice change. Taupe is a funny color and it tends to look a little white in photos so I do know what you mean. I am sure you will love the bed crown, I have fabric draping over my bed and it's very romantic. People comment on it all the time.

the room looks beautiful! wish we lived closer i bought 2 french looking shlves that are rounded and curved i pained a creamy heirloom white and i am gonna use one as a bed crown i bought both intending for them to be used as bed crowns i saw them and knew instantly although they were a ugly gold color when i got them! i like the duvet and i kinda like the frilliness of it!!!! looking good! have a great day! 33. The foofiness, of course! You are on your way, and I cannot wait to see the finished project. We have the same birdcage! About those curtains over the mirror doors: I have also done that. If you use clip rings on the rod, they just slide out of the way very easily. And if you add a couple of those little poles which hook on to the ring like they have in a hotel, you can avoid touching the fabric, and it will stay nice and clean. Also, it is easier to move. The coronet sounds really Romantic! Can't wait to see.

  36. Hi Cindy, your bedroom is just so romantic and beautiful. I really can't decide which side I like best of the duvet, so I would probably chop and change from time to time. Can't wait to see it all finished especially that canopy above your bed. take care, Maryann

  37. Dear Miss Cindy,

I like the fufu side too... but I don't see the scalloped edges at the foot of the bed? Actually, I don't think it's too-fufu.... I think it looks like you'd feel like you're floating on a soft fluffy cloud... with... a ruffle. :) Can't wait to see the progress. Keep us posted and don't make us wait. I love the idea of a robin's egg blue color. It would be perfect with the sea scape theme... or any other theme you could possibly come up with.

Great job... can't wait to see more.

Did you ever choose a fabric to reupholster your beautiful Bergere chair? My vote is for the third one down on the list from the top of your selection that you posted when you got the chair.

  44. I think your bedroom is beautiful just the way it is so I can't imagine what else you could do that would make it any better...but I know you will! :)

Honestly, I think the mirrored closet doors are fine. They bounce beautiful reflections and light around the room. (I love that 3rd photo where the chandelier, dresser and throw are reflected in the closet doors!) It looks like the doors are trimmed in silver (not gold) so they don't stick out like a sore thumb. I know you didn't ask for opinions on this but I vote not to cover them up.

    ReplyDelete
  45. What a beautiful bedroom! I think I like the fufu side the best, too, but it looks great on the other side, as well. Just lovely!

  47. I like the smooth side up I think. It's good you can get both looks from the one piece.
I bought the conforter that has the ruffles running up and down the length of the conforter on each side (hard to explain) and love it. It was sitting next to your duvet on the display shelf.
Can't wait to see more pictures.

  48. Cindy, Your bedroom is looking great! It's funny but I just paid to have mirrored closet doors installed in my bedroom...lol. I love them because they make the room seem twice as large. As for the duvet, I have a plain white one, but just ordered the 'fufu' one you have..got it on eBay.:) The beach theme I have going in my room like you and I also have a mosquito net & crown over my bed. You do a great job on everything you do!

  54. Cindy,

stunningly beautiful. I think the toile pillows should stay... they add a nice touch of colour and freshness to the bed. I was going through older posts and saw how your bedroom was before.... wow... the evolution of a bedroom. I think the bed looks much better in front of the wall than in front of the window! And I like the little detail you added as decorations like the pearlys and shells and the lilacs!
    Just great.

  59. Luv your room so soothing- definitely not boring. You can forget the plain vanilla. I like the duvet's plain side, either way looks good. You got me wondering about covering the closet up, that may make your room feel small. Isn't it nice to have a change and fresh clean paint? I love it.

  69. Cindy, I love the new color in your bedroom. When you paint the trim white, it will definitely make that color pop! I've been wanting to paint my living room (its white right now) and that may be the color I go with. Thanks very much for telling us the color.

The crown over your bed will be so gorgeous - and what a neat thing that your dad can build it. I think I like the 'foofy' look of your duvet but either way is nice. When you've added pillows and other bits of color it will be great whichever way you like it best. Thanks for sharing - another inspiring moment for me. I have to say the texture on the fufu side is lovely, but I also like the calming effect of the smooth side...so maybe you just need to go with whichever you're feeling for the day! lol I change my bedspread out with my moods. I have a white chenille,a white matlesse' a pastel quilt....whatever I'm in the mood for, is what I go with! LOL

  76. As much as I can appreciated the casual elegance of the shabby chic look, I prefer the smooth side of the duvet. The other deters from the additional elements in the area and looks a bit sloppy. Love the room!!! You've done a fabulous job.

  80. Hi Cindy, I liked your bedroom before, but this change is a good one too. I think the table on that side with the long mirror above it really caught my eye.... it looks so much better there. You know what would be great if you can have your before and after picture together to compare the two after your room is completed. I bet it feels good to have your room repainted..... it's something I need to do with some of my rooms when I get in the mood... and who knows when that's going to be. I kinda dread doing it because I also need to do the ceilings.

I like the duvet either way...
