Wednesday Gratitude

Heidi at Heart and Home is hosting "Wednesday Gratitude" every Wednesday starting today! Being grateful is so important to me, I think it's probably the most important thing I've learned in my life. When I was younger (in my 20s & 30s), I always wanted what I didn't have, I was very envious of people that had a nicer car, a prettier house, more clothes...I could go on and on. I found myself so depressed when I compared myself to other people. Luckily with age comes wisdom and I think I learned somewhere along the way that I need to be grateful for what I have, and I now say to myself every day "I am thankful for...". I really have become a much happier person with thinking positively and having gratitude. It's very uplifting! If you don't do this regularly I think you should give it a try and before you know it, it becomes a habit! So for today's "Wednesday Gratitude" rather than show a material item that I am grateful for, I would like to say that I am very grateful that having gratitude has made me a much happier person!

Heidi's orginal post when she announced Wednesday Gratitude was very good (and oh so true) so I want to put a link to that also! Click here to read that.

  1. Very well said Cindy. Age does teach us to be more grateful. We have lived long enough to realize that everything is temporary anyway and so we might as well appreciate what we have, while we have it. -Delores

  2. You're so right. Too bad it takes us awhile to get it. But I guess we should be thankful that we do get it. There are many that still haven't.

  3. Cyndi, you are so right, age does give us a wonderful perspective on life. This is a good post and one that makes you think. It is not hard for me to be grateful, it is hard for me to narrow it all down. I guess I could say I am most grateful for the lessons I have learned that allow me to keep things in perspective. There is a little saying that I like," I am not always certain of what will come next, but I AM certain of GOD! I like that and I am very grateful for that assurance. Kathysue

  9. Cindy, you expressed it so prefectly! A while back, I came across an old inspiration file (torn pages from magazines in a folder circa 1970.) It was completely idiotic ha! What was I thinking?

I'm happy to say I have grown significantly since then and strive to enrich my life each day. I have learned to appreciate and cherish what is truly more valuable than material things: family, friends, charity, faith, and laughter.

    Cheers!

  11. Oh yes, Cindy. Attitude of gratitude is definitely where it's at for me. Sarah Brechnach in her book, Simple Abundance, pointed out the importance of gratitude. Since practicing it, my life is enriched, too. Thanks for the post. Sincerely, Susan from writingstraightfromtheheart.blogspot.com

  13. Cindy,
This is so well said! It's all in the attitude, and so many days I've had to remind myself to smile and be thankful. But it does come more quickly and naturally to me now that I'm "of a certain age!" Thanks so much for the support, and the sweet words about my blog!
I appreciate you, my blogging friend.

  14. Definitely something on my agenda for 2010. Sometimes in the middle of chaos and busyness, we forget to be thankful. Thank you for the reminder.

  16. Very true. I always try to be thankful for what I have rather then being sad over what I don't have.

This is something I've been trying hard to teach my great niece who is 9. If we learn this when we are young we save so many heartaches.

    Hugs,
    Joanne

  17. Cindy,

Happy Wednesday! Your post and thoughts are so true..a thankful heart is so important! I am telling myself regulary how grateful I am to have been born in America...I've lived in another country and seen the less fortunate...but they were happy regardless of their material wealth. We know that money or things can't bring ture happiness..I'm grateful I learned that along time ago too! Wonderful post.

  18. Great idea for Gratitude Wednesday!
I think it is so cool to shop at thrift stores and consignment stores now. But when I was in my 20's and 30's I would not shop at a Goodwill store. I love giving what I have away, when I tire of it. Stuff is just clutter unless it has meaning to me. I love my house and my life now that I am in my early 50's! I have a great husband, kids, dogs, friends, and a great job...so I am very grateful for all that I have and all that I can give away.
    Thanks, JolieAnne

  20. Morning Cindy... (don't you just hate spam? me too!) anyway...

Loved your post... well said. Many years ago, my priest told me that it was good to pray for your needs because God does hear our prayers...however... God already knows what our wants and needs are... and wouldn't it be wonderful, if everyday we prayed a prayer of Thanksgiving... thanking God for all our blessings.

I began that day and continue today to pray that Thanksgiving prayer every morning. It is a reminder to me how deeply blessed I truly am.

Like you, being thankful has made me a much happier person... Wednesday Gratitude... a wonderful idea!

    Blessings. Dixie

  22. Do you have a housekeeper other than yourself who keeps all your things dusted and clean?

  23. I find it impossible to have clutter-free bathroom and kitchen surfaces as 1.)I would find it cumbersome to always have to open drawers or closets to get out the daily used items and ...2.) I have NO storage nor any place FOR storage. so I am sorry to say I can't even come close to the lovely display that you create. Such is life.

  26. Cindy,
This is a great post. I was just thinking earlier today of how I am contented with so much less than I used to be. I appreciate, peace, love and joy so much more than the things I used to put above them.
    Blessings!

  27. Cindy, on my craziest days I always remember something I heard once - If the only prayer you ever pray is *Thank You*, it will be enough.
