Show and Tell Friday

It's Show and Tell Friday again! As I was driving home from work tonight (Thurs) I was thinking about what I would share with you this week. Once I got home and saw a package waiting for me I knew right away what it would be!

I won this old Haviland & Company Limoges cup and saucer on Ebay earlier this week and it arrived today! It was only $4.99 but then the shipping was $7.94. Still a good deal though! I think I see a new collection beginning!
It is so delicate and so translucent!
I took it over by my back door so I could take a picture in what little light was still left at 6:00 pm! I was looking for something to add to make the photos look a little nicer then I noticed a bouquet of roses that I had cut last weekend sitting right next to the teacup. They were faded and limp but a few of them looked so beautiful and I thought they would be perfect addition for my quick photo shoot!
There's something so beautiful about roses as they start to fade....sort of like older women...don't you think? Not quite at their prime but still so much to offer!

I hoped you enjoyed these Halloween photos. Vintage and Vogue will have their Christmas items out shortly after Halloween so I'll share those with you in the near future!

Halloween Giveaway!

Last week, you may remember I posted a picture of my Victorian boots that I put out for Halloween every year. To me, they look just like witches boots! Well, my mom saw that post and said she would like to have a giveaway on my blog for one of hers. She bought this years ago and there was only one.

So if you would like to win this old antique boot just in time for Halloween, please leave a comment below. This is open to those in the U.S. and Canada only (due to shipping costs.) If you don't have a blog, please be sure to leave your email address or you can send me an email (cindy95131@yahoo.com). The drawing will end on Tuesday, Oct 27th at midnight and I will do my best to get it to the winner before Halloween!

Show and Tell Friday

It's Show and Tell Friday and once again I'm sorry but I'm using photos I've already posted on here...yikes, some have been on here more than once! I'm going to have to plan my time better because it's getting dark so early now which makes it really hard to take good photographs after work! I guess I'll have to plan out my week's worth of posts on the weekends!
This week I decided to share some of my vintage linen and lace with you. I know...you've seen it all before..

I can hardly wait to decorate for Christmas after seeing this...

My favorite tablecloth, from my mom, of course! I need to take a better photo of this, it's so much prettier in person...
align="left"> Good thing you'll have a lot of other blogs to visit to see some original content! I promise I'll try to not run so many reruns in the future!

Halloween House

video
I saw this home all decorated for Halloween and thought you might like to see it too. It's so adorable! It's in the Willow Glen area in San Jose, CA. I didn't talk through the video because I would have felt like a fool if someone saw me! When I was almost finished filming this, someone walked down the driveway and I was so thankful I wasn't talking! I turned off my camera and walked away which is why it's so short...I was so embarrassed! Note: If you can't see the video above you can click here to see it on YouTube. It's easier to see on YouTube because it's larger.

This is one of my favorite homes in Willow Glen. If it looks familiar you may remember if from a previous post I did....it's the first home in this post.

Reminder, tomorrow is Show and Tell Friday! I should have MckLinky up before 9:00 PM Pacific Time tonight if you want to join in!

White Wednesday

It's white Wednesday again! The sterling silver dish and the mother-of-pearl button and buckles were in the box that my mom sent me. My mom collected mother-of-pearl buttons and buckles. I think she was way ahead of her time! Now they are more popular than ever!

My dad bought this house at Walmart a few years ago. It's just a flat piece that was meant to be hung on the wall. My dad turned it into a planter by building 3 sides with a hole in the top.

These little white shoes were Vince's. I bought both my kids Stride Rite shoes when they started walking. So cute!

I have this wicker cart sitting at the bottom of my stairs. I have it holding some of my vintage linens. Looking at this photo makes me want to dig through it and look at all the pretties!

Please stop by Kathleen's blog~ Faded Charm to see other White Wednesday participants! She's also having a giveaway this week!!!

Fall decorating from years past

I've been so busy I haven't had time to take photos for my blog so I went back into my archives and looked through my October 2007 and 2008 posts. I have to say that one of the great things about blogging is that I have pictures of all the decorating I've done in my apartment! I forgot that I did each of these things so it was great to see the pictures to refresh my memory!
The photo above is from 2007! The boots are old Victorian boots that look like they have hardly been worn. My mom bought them at a thrift store when I was little. My dad made the wooden crow with the cherry in it's mouth.

Silver and a giveaway winner!

Saturday I received in a big box in the mail from my mom and dad. It was filled with vintage goodies! One of the items was this little crystal salt shaker with a sterling lid. It's so beautiful! There is only one so now I have a quest to find it a mate! In the bottom of the box was this gorgeous candelabra! My mom got this from a coworker many years ago. Her coworker had bought it an antique auction in San Francisco. My mom gave her a tea cart in exchange for this and they were both very happy with the trade! Now my mom has passed it down to me.

I think I need to get some ivory colored candles for fall though...
On Saturday morning Lauren and I went to a high school flea market that is close by. There really wasn't anything good there at all but I did find some silver flatware.
I got all of this for $10. What a deal. I came home and polished it all up. I've been wanting to collect mismatched silver flatware because I think it looks so pretty in a table setting. The knives are more ornate than the spoons and forks and there are a lot more of them. I think I counted 14 knives!
And now to the giveaway...
The winner of the white turkey for my October Giveaway is Kimberly ~ Romantiques Thank you all for entering!

Show and Tell Friday

Here we are on my 3rd week of hosting Show and Tell Fridays. Fridays seem to roll around so much more quickly now! I didn't even get a chance to take new pictures of something to share with you this week so I'm reposting some photos of my birdhouse I bought at a flea market earlier this year.

Can you believe I got this birdcage for only $25!!! It was black when I bought it. You can see what it looked like in my original post...just click here. The plan was to move my finches in here but it didn't work out because Beau, my chihuahua would not stop barking and jumping on the cage so now it's just a decorative cage. It's one of my favorite flea market finds and one of my favorite makeover projects!
If you are joining in on Show and Tell Friday, please remember that your Show and Tell needs to be something from your home or garden. Please read the Show and Tell Guidelines for step-by-step instructions on how to participate. If you would like to join in, please enter your name and leave your exact Show and Tell blog post link. Decorating for Fall

I finally started changing out the summery decor in my home for my fall and winter look. The seashells have been put away...which was so hard for me to do, and the pastel plates have been replaced with my blue and white transferware turkey dishes.

I prefer the other look but change is always nice!

This is a nice change but I'm really looking forward to Christmas decorating!!!

Feeding my addiction

There was a big box on my doorstep when I arrived home from work last Friday night. It was from my online friend Lorrie. She sent me a huge box full of vintage linens, a wonderful belated birthday gift! When I opened the box I felt a bit like an addict...is it possible to get "high" on linens? I really think I did and it was a great feeling! Lorrie has the same addiction as me but she seems to be getting better because she went through her own linen stash, which must be HUGE and sorted out these to give to me! How nice was that!!!

I had to look at each piece before I even thought about cooking dinner! I also had to call my mom as I was going through them because she's a linen addict also...it really does seem to run in families!

There are some beautiful things in that stack. I'll have to share closeups of some of them later.

Today is white Wednesday so if you go over to Kathleen's blog ~ Faded Charm, you can find more bloggers on her sidebar that are joining in!
Thank you so much Lorrie!

Giveaway for October

Sorry I'm late for the giveaway this month. Lauren and I had the swine flu. Lauren had it worse than I did but we seem to be on the mend now. My son had it about a month ago so we've all gone through it now with no complications...thankfully!

My giveaway for this month is this cute little ceramic turkey that I picked up at Marshalls. It's smaller than it looks in this picture...it's about the size of a small teapot. If you would like to win this little guy just leave a comment below by midnight on Friday, October 16th. Due to shipping costs this is open to anyone in the U.S. or Canada. If you don't have a blog please be sure to leave your email address so I can contact you if you win!

You may have heard on the news, we're having a major storm here today! It's been pouring down rain for hours now. I just hope the roads aren't too flooded on my commute home from work tonight!

Show & Tell Friday

Welcome to my second Show & Tell Friday! This week I decided to share some of my vintage jewelry collection. My mom handed down most of these to me. I like to keep them piled in the cherub dish on my dresser rather than tucked away in a drawer. That way I can enjoy them every day!

I've LOVE this pink necklace and I wear this one once in awhile...
I wear this bracelet often and I get complimented on it a lot!
This rhinestone piece below is a belt. It's much more sparkly than it shows here...

Another pretty necklace...

A lovely green broach and earring set...

This piece was a gift from another blogger...
My mom bought me this cameo when I was a little girl...

Another pretty necklace from my mom...

My high school class ring, class of '78...I guess this is considered vintage now too!

Nelson's Road Trip

My friend Nelson recently got back from driving around the U.S. for 6 weeks! If you've been reading my blog for awhile you may remember me mentioning my friend Nelson in the past. Nelson was the first guy I dated after my second divorce and that was way back in 2000! We only dated for about a year but have remained good friends. I thought you might like to see some of his photos. The homes above and below are from Savannah, Georgia. Look at the steps in the photo above! I love those! Here's Nelson on the beach in Florida...

Some more BEAUTIFUL Florida beach shots...
I've been here! This is Mystic, Connecticut...
See the sign down the street in the photo below? That's Mystic Pizza! Remember the movie "Mystic Pizza" with Julia Roberts?

Thank you Nelson for letting me share your photos!

White Wednesday

Yep...that's me in the picture above. As you can see...my aversion to having my picture taken started early in life! See my mom's hand in the bottom right hand corner? She was reaching to pull my dress back down but luckily the photographer saw the humor in it and quickly snapped the picture. It's my favorite photo of myself and I have it on my nightstand.

This is a little nightlight I bought at the Alameda Flea Market last spring.
I often get asked how I paint the hardware on my furniture. Here's a close-up of my dresser pulls. I spray painted them and then used Silver Rub n Buff on the top edges.
I love this ceramic finial...I bought this at HomeGoods...or was it Marshalls?
This tray came from Marshalls. And no, Marshalls doesn't pay me for all this free advertising and neither does HomeGoods.
This picture above is a lamp in my bedroom. I found a pair of these at the thrift store awhile ago. They were gold and ugly and I painted them white.
Do you remember this lamp below that Carol, one of my readers sent me? If not, you can read about it here . Are you wondering why I never showed it again? It's because I'm still looking for the perfect shade and the perfect roses to put on the shade.
I'm not giving up though! I know the perfect shade is out there!

For more White Wednesday posts you can visit Kathleen at Faded Charm. The participants are on her sidebar.

My Oatmeal Cookies

Last night I made some yummy oatmeal cookies! I started off using the Quaker Oats Famous Oatmeal Cookie Recipe but I stirred in 3/4 cup of chopped dried apricots and 1/4 cup of shredded coconut. After I baked them and let them cool I dipped them in melted white chocolate and popped them in the fridge for a few minutes to firm up the chocolate.

There is something about dried apricots and white chocolate...they just go so well together! Mmmm-mmm good!

Pink Saturday!

video
First off...I must say that I don't think that dying animals pink or any other color is a good idea, in fact I think it's illegal in some states but I couldn't help but video tape this little poodle when I saw her outside of a thrift store on my lunch hour last week. You just don't see a pink poodle every day! I know it so wrong but you have to admit she's so cute! She looked like a stuffed animal! The owner told me that they were going to have to sell her because they lost their jobs...how sad! Hopefully her next mama won't dye her pink!

Happy Pink Saturday! Please stop by Beverly ~ How Sweet the Sound to see more bloggers participating in Pink Saturday!

EDITED TO ADD: It was not my intent to sadden or even make people angry with this post!! I'm so sorry if I have! My belief is that you should never judge a person's motives without knowing all the facts! I got my dog Beau at about the same age as this dog because his owner couldn't keep him. Maybe these people are moving into a homeless shelter because they have children...we just don't know! Please don't judge people without knowing the whole story! I find that very sad! My heart goes out to EVERYONE that has lost their job in these hard economic times!

Show and Tell Friday!

I would like to thank Kelli for passing over her Show and Tell Fridays to me. I would also like to welcome her readers to my blog! I know for many of you this may be your first visit here and I would like to make you feel comfortable and I hope that you continue joining in on Show and Tell every Friday. I look forward to getting to know you all better!

To my regular readers I hope that you join in also. I think this will be a lot of fun every week!

This first week I decided to share my chandelier that I found on craigslist awhile ago. I remember being so excited to find it. They were asking $85 for it but I ended up getting it for $65. It was brass and I hadn't planned on painting it but after I put it in my bedroom I just didn't like the brass so I ended up spray painting it in Heirloom White. I think it looks so much better!

*******************************

Remember, that your Show and Tell needs to be something from your home or garden. Please read the Show and Tell Guidelines for step-by-step instructions on how to participate.

If you would like to join in, please leave your exact show and tell blog post link, along with your first name only (this makes the list easier to read). If your link has been removed from MckLinky, please re-read over the guidelines before re-posting, or e-mail me with any questions.

White Wednesday on Thursday

I'm a day late for White Wednesday hosted by Kathleen at Faded Charm but I really wanted to give you more than a one day notice about Show and Tell Fridays so I decided to post this a day late. Above is a paper rose I have hanging on a bird cage...I always think of Marie Osmond every time I say Paper Rose. Remember that song "Paper Roses" Okay, I know, I'm showing my age! Aghhhh....I'm not going to be able to get that song out of my head for days now... Oh well, it brings back happy memories of being 12 years old! Paper Roses...
I just love this photo of Vince. His hair is dark brown now but when he was little it was very blonde...almost white!!! It's hard to tell in that photo but he has dirt all over his face. I was working in the garden and he was playing in the dirt! Where did the time go? He'll be 23 in December!
This mirror above was from a giveaway I won on Glenda's blog. I have it in my entry way. It's reflecting the mirrors on my staircase. Hmmm...Mirrors reflecting mirrors....that may be a sign that I have too many! haha!
A lace trimmed napkin on a shelf. It's just too pretty to put in a drawer!

Don't forget tomorrow is my first Show & Tell party! If you are a new blogger, I encourage you to join in. It's a great way to get more visitors to your blog!
