Vacation!

I have a week off of work and wouldn't you know it...I'm not feeling good! I had a coughing attack on Friday night. It only lasted a few minutes but my chest has been so sore since Saturday morning so I'm going to the doctor today just to be safe. Hopefully it's just heart-burn or something simple. About 5 years ago I thought I was having a heart attack at work. I was rushed to emergency and it ended up being heart-burn. I was so embarrassed! I never get heart-burn so I didn't know it could be that painful! I felt a little foolish! This pain is different though. It hurts when I move. It really hurts when I move my arms forward or backward....any doctors out there? haha! Just kidding, I'll be calling the doctor's office this morning.

I have so much I want to get done this week so I'm hoping this goes away quickly!

Update(3:40pm) : I went to my doctor today. She did an ekg which turned out great...what a relief. She was also concerned about blood clots because that runs in my family. I had to get a blood test and a chest xray and I'm still waiting for the results on those. No news is good news....she told me if she calls me back today it means I have to get to the emergency room right away! I'm hoping the phone doesn't ring! haha!

  1. Hi Cindy,
I hope you feel better, maybe you pulled a muscle or two while you were coughing. I have done that before and it really hurts. Better to be safe than sorry so going to the Doctor it the safe thing to do.
Enjoy your week off work, I know I always have so many things I want to do too and I'm sure you have a creative project you want to work on.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family,
    Elizabeth

  7. Never be embarassed that the injury or illness is less then you thought it was, Be Grateful!
I worked in an emergency room and you would be surprised how many people are embarassed that what they thought was a horrible desease or a broken bone, that turned out to be an alergic reaction or a bad sprain. Do get it checked out so that you can continue your wonderful blog free of concern or dread because you didn't go to the doctor.
Hope you are feeling much better soon and can enjoy your time off.
I enjoy your blog so much.
Thank you for sharing your imagination and creativity with us all

  14. I too had an episode a few years back where I thought I was having a heart attack. I had my husband take me to emerg where they took me right in. Turned out I was having a panic attack. I have never had an other one but it was scary. There is a lot of viruses going around at the moment. Hope yours is not serious. Valerie

  18. Enjoy your vacation and I hope you are not getting sick! I started with a cough last Thursday and it's still with me. It seems I have just a cold, but I'll take that over the flu any day!

  19. I'm glad you are seeing a Dr., Cindy! My sister thought she'd had heartburn & waited 24 hours before seeing a Dr. - she'd had a very serious heart attack.

Hope you feel better soon! Lovely mosaic!

  22. My guess is a pulled muscle when you had your coughing fit ... but it's definitely better to be safe than sorry ... so good thing you are going to the Dr.!!! Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!!! And get lots of fun things accomplished while you are off work! Lucky you!

  23. Dear Cindy,
My holiday wish for you is that you feel better and better and everything is perfect for Thanksgiving!

(taking any kind of chest pain seriously is always the best option)

  24. Coughing can really hurt something. Let us know what the doctor says.

  25. Maybe it's pleurisy, my husband had that once. I have also pulled muscles while coughing and it really hurts. Go to doctor though to be sure.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The coughing can pull muscles. Not at all unusual to be very sore after a big coughing attack or even after throwing up.
    Don't worry too much.

    ReplyDelete
  27. PS the fact that it hurts when you move is a key to it being sore muscles.

  28. Hi Cindy......Don't be embarrassed for going to an emergency room and it turned out to be heartburn. Same thing happened to me and it was my reflux. It sounds like you pulled something from your coughing attack. I have been going to a chiropractor for my neck for 2 months now...don't ask me what caused that. When you hit 50 every pain that used to last a day or two now goes on for weeks....maybe months? Feel better!~Patti

  30. Take care of yourself, first!! Never feel foolish going to the doctors with any kind of chest pains. Many women die of heart attacks because they don't go to the ER. When in doubt, go, go , go!!
Hope you are doing well and will post to let us know how you are doing.
    Blessings,

  31. Hope you feel better. And don't feel embarassed. My Sister had a cough attack a few weeks ago and she kept having pain. Turns out she cracked a rib while coughing!!!
    Have a great Holiday.

  32. Hope you get better soon. Sounds like it could be a pulled muscle or maybe pleurisy. Pleurisy can be very painful, and you might think you're having a heart attack.

  38. Don't feel embarrassed by your trip to the hospital. I did the same about 10 yrs. ago. Spent the night in the hospital to find ou that it was acid reflux. The pain was not in the center of my chest of did not feel like heartburn...but it was. Check things out and enjoy your vacation.

  39. I hope your feeling better soon and keep us updated! I too went to the hospital thinking I was having a heartattack, to this day I don't know what caused it but they said it may have been stress related, my husband had one at 38 yrs old so I didn't take any chances! I still think I may of had a mild one but I'm not a doc all I know is it really hurt and I have heartburn and it was a totally different type of pain.

  40. Hi Cindy,
Sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well. Hurry up and feel better. It's best to go to the doctor to get a clean bill of health rather than trying to guess what it may or may not be.
Enjoy your week and Happy Thanksgiving.

I too, have pain in my chest, and sometimes heartburn, but the doctor can never find out what it is. Been going on for 10 years, so I guess it's not a heart attack, or I would be dead by now. lol.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and the kids.

  50. Cindy,
Never ever be afraid to seek medical help when you are not sure what you are experiencing! Not the best way to begin your week of vacation but better safe than sorry. So far the news is all good and I pray it continues. I know you have a lot you want to do and hate to sit still, but maybe this is the time to take it bit easier and just enjoy your beautiful home. BTW if you need some eye candy without carbs you can check my blog. I posted pictures of treasures to be found at my favorite store here in Tampa Bay. Stay well and do enjoy your vacation!

My first thought was pleurisy...I had that one time years ago and I thought that I was having a heart attack too! It hurt so bad. I hope everything turns out well for you. Take it easy and try to have a Happy Thanksgiving. Try not to worry too much about it. I know thats easier said than done.

  60. Cindy,

I think one of the worst things to hear a doctor say is " I wish you had come in when this first started."

It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Please take good care of yourself.

  61. I was wondering about pleurisy too but I see that Lee Laurie mentioned it. I had pleurisy once and took myself to the er. It hurts!!

  62. Cindy,

Hope you're feeling better by now. I noticed a few other people mentioned a broken rib and that's how I hurt when I broke some ribs.

I didn't even realize I had broken one one time until x-rays showed a healing rib fracture. If that is what it is there isn't much you can do but give it time.

  64. Never be embarrassed about seeking help about funny feelings in the chest, arms, neck, throat. Symptoms of heart problems are often times different in women than in men. Heavens, talk about feeling embarrassed (really I wasn't), but I'm a retired ER nurse who went into that same ER with palpitations, chest tightness. etc, etc, and it ended up being a panic attack. Hey, I was happy!!
