Topiaries

Pin It Now!

I LOVE topiaries! I have quite a few of them in all different shapes and sizes. I started them from small 4" pots of ivy many years ago. Here is a wreath shape one I made. I started this with just a couple cuttings of ivy from one of my other topiaries. I put the cuttings in water until the roots formed and then planted them in a pot with a wire hoop-shaped form. It's not a fast process...ivy really doesn't grow all that fast until it's about 2 or 3 years old.

I recently transplanted it in this beautiful urn. You'll never guess where I bought this! Walmart! It's just one of those lightweight faux concrete planters but I thought it looked really nice and pretty close to the real thing ...which I would love to have but can't afford! This one was only $20.
I love the handles on the sides! I added my little cherub with the cracked neck that I bought at the flea market awhile ago. He's so cute, even with a cracked neck!
My big HUGE begonias are blooming. It's still summer here in California. It was in the 90s this past weekend so you won't be seeing any Fall decor here until it cools down a bit a lot!

HI Cindy, I didn't know you could take cuttings from ivy and just simply put them in water to take root! It was only yesterday I happened to find some growing in my garden (I don't know how as I didn't plant them) and pulled them out to make a heart shape topiary. I love how yours look, the urn and cherub, just lovely! Will pass this little tip on in my next post.. I simply love your blog, take care, Maryann

Hi Cindy-
I look at your blog almost every day, it's always sooo fun to see what you have to share. I was pleasantly surprised to see my Romantic Home sign on your blog. Clicked on it and remembered your posting my things a couple of years ago.
When you showed your mirror with the shutters, the other day, I was toying with the idea of sending you a picture of my mirrors with shutters. Have had them for way over 10 years, changed colors on the shutters, but still love them! I guess I will look up your email address and send them, so be watching.
Thanks again for featuring my things, it's fun to come up on them out of the blue.
A loyal reader of your blog.
Ruth

You can pick up little containers of cement patch at any hardware store for under $10 (you just mix it with water).. easy-peasy. Or... you could give the little cherub a pearl necklace...or a bow...or just leave it :-) I can NEVER leave anything alone... I'd probably do all of the above~!

Beautiful topiary and flower. Ivy survives the Winters here if planted in the ground, but have not had any luck with it in a pot outside during Winter.

Hi Cindy,
I love your ivy topiarie with the
cherub. I have that same cherub
and would you believe he has a
cracked neck too. It must be a
fluke with that mold. I don't know
how my broke,he sits on my bench
under the oak tree. Your flowers
are beautiful,it amazes me how
pretty everything is on your little
patio. It all looks so nice and so
inviting. That looks like such a
nice cool place to sit and read.
I looked at that urn also in Walmart. Great minds think alike.
LOL. :0)

I love Ivy, my topiaries are crying, I think, though, since I forgot to water them this week. After a few snips, and a ton of water, maybe they will start to look like your beauty! Love the cherub.

Interesting about the ivy. I've tried growing it in pots and never had any luck. Maybe it just needs more time?

I can't believe that urn! Even at Wal-mart, I've never seen one that nice for $20.
