I've been hitting A LOT of thrift stores lately looking for more silver trays to turn into chalk boards to sell but unfortunately I'm not finding trays but I am finding some other nice things for myself! Here I am...trying to make money and I end up spending money! Oh well!
I found this silver champagne bucket for $9.99. It was very tarnished but nothing a little Wrights Silver Cream couldn't handle. I already had a silver champagne bucket but it was very cheap-looking and plain so it's nice to upgrade to a nicer one with more ornate handles.
After I found the bucket I kept picturing it loaded with large shells but I didn't have enough big ones to make it look nice! I kept thinking how much I wanted a big conch shell...well you will never believe it, I walked into a thrift store on Monday and found this huge beautiful shell for $11.00!!! It's over 7" long! If that wasn't the law of attraction at work I don't know what is. (if you haven't read the book The Secret, you should...it works!)
So here it is all full of shells! For a different look I filled it with dried hydrangeas...
Of course I could always use it for what it was intended...
I also found this Pfaltzgraff sugar and creamer set. The sugar bowl was $1.50 and the creamer $1.00. I couldn't pass them up for that price! I used to have these many years ago, this my very first dish pattern when I was just 18 years old!

Great finds! Even here in FL, that shell would cost way more than $11.00! Gotta tell you...you have no idea how much I loved clicking on your blog today and seeing SHELLS! I feel like I'm the only one in Blogland who isn't showing fall decor. My pastel colors, pink roses, floral prints, and the couple beachy rooms I have in my home make it so hard to decorate for fall. It's really bumming me out that I have no seasonal decor to share. I know you have said in the past you are somewhat in the same boat with your color scheme so I guess I'm in great company. :)

What a great find Cindy! Really beautiful... I have been using Tarnex on the silver and have never been totally happy with the results... but looking at your silver bucket and how badly it was tarnished I think I will switch to Wrights!

I love silver of all sorts, especially champaign buckets. They remind me of trophies (which are always so expensive!) I've been able to find 2 very lovely ones in thrift stores as well. I think most people hate polishing them. Great find!

Cindy love the conch shell. We went to Grand Cayman a few years ago and My hubby actually dived down far enough to get one (live) for me. It is quite an ugly creature that lives in there, but we cleaned it all up and it is a beautiful shell. :)

It's amazing how many people have put it so far out of their memories, the mention of the date doesn't even trigger any sort of response. Out of 8 newspapers we sell at our market, only 2 felt it was noteworthy to give creedence to the memory of 9/11... or some sort of mention of what horrible things happened 8 years ago. I still cannot believe it. I know that life goes on... but, really, without remembering the past, we are destined to repeat it. I have heard that so many times.
ReplyDeleteThanks for Carmel. Beautiful. Some of those homes made my heart go pitter-patter. And, might I say, I could never, never, ever just "drive by" a beach. However, that is because I don't live anywhere's near the beach. I remember as a young girl going to the beaches in New Hampshire, Maine, or New Jersey, and I could always tell when we were getting close... the land would get flat, and the air would take on this certain and specific scent... and no matter where we were staying, we would always just pull over somewhere, we'd get out of the car and just go stick our toes/legs in the water. We couldn't wait! You are so fortunate!
I really like your champange chiller, and I was just wondering if there is anything on the bottom that let you know for sure that you could get it clean? I've seen some pretty pieces in thrift stores too, but I'm not sure I can get it clean. There's silver, there's silverplate, and then what? And if there's no mark.... how do you decide?

Such a beautiful bicket, and the shells are perfect in it! I know some people love the look of tarnished silver, but I love it polished up too. In this case I think it is so much prettier shiny:>)
ReplyDeleteI still use those very same Pfaltzgraff dishes. They are wonderful. They can be dressed up with a simple charger or very casual/clean looking set by themselves :-)
