A New Project

I bet you never thought you would see these colors on my blog! ...or in my home!!! You'll be seeing more of this in the near future...Lauren and I are redoing her bedroom! I've always loved Rhoda's (Southern Hospitality) green and black office and laundry room. Luckily Lauren loves these colors too so that's what we're going with. We are also adding a very small touch of pink to the mix! The walls will be Behr Paint in Grass cloth (the second color from the top).
We had fun shopping for some new things last weekend. We went to HomeGoods and found the black and white quilt, the big picture frame which she is going to personalize with photos of her and her friends. Lauren also found this adorable crown plaque and knew she wanted that in her room. I don't like the colors on this so I'm going to paint it...probably black with a white crown....or maybe pink??? I figure I could use those paint pens to fill in the crown area.
What a perfect opportunity to show off Lauren's school picture that we just got last week! She's now a Junior in high school and I cannot believe she'll be 17 in just a little over 2 months! She's changed so much from her first day of high school! I'm so happy that she finally appreciates her auburn hair and stopped dying it! Isn't that an amazing color? Now...if I could only get her to appreciate her curls and not straighten it!

We'll be busy painting walls and furniture and shopping for accessories but I think it will be a lot of fun! I hope to have it all finished by the end of October if not sooner!

  3. My daughter has naturally curly red hair and it is beautiful. Your daughter is lovely -- she looks younger in that picture than she did when she was 14. Don't tell her that -- she probably wants to look older. Her bedroom is going to be wonderful. Rhoda's rooms are inspiring in those colors.

  9. My favorite colors, Cindy! Those are the colors I'm planning for my future home office. I even have a little of those colors in my logo/banner for my blog. Your daughter's hair color is the color I am thinking of dying my hair to! Can't wait to see what you do with the crown plaque.

  14. My dining room and front room are a sage green color. I was thinking that it needs a fresh coat of paint. Is the greenish color you picked for her room for the walls? Is it a light color? Sage?

And by the way....tell your daughter she is absolutely beautiful. Her hair and skin are gorgeous.

  32. Hi, Cindy

I have been a fan of your blog for a few years now. Every morning I check my email first and then check out your blog. You inspired me a few years back to donate all of the stuff in my home that was not beautiful to me and slowly replace them only with pieces I truly love. You have inspired me and countless others to make our home a sanctuary no matter the budget--believe me, mine is small! Recently I started a blog myself to share some of my many thrifty project ideas. I have been a crafter for years and at the age of 35 have finally given myself permmission to indulge in my love for crafts. I have a project or three going on every week and I have never been happier! Thanks,

  36. Cindy...I just read at Kelli's "There is no place like Home" blog that she relinquished her Show n Tell over to you. I'm glad you decided to take over, as I'd miss this meme.

Thanks for everything...hope to get to know you better as the Friday's come around.

I'll be here on Friday the 2nd, with bells on!!

  38. HI Cindy, I just stopped by and love what I read plus I saw that you are in Campbell Ca. and I used to live on border of San Jose, Campbell and Cupertino. You have a wonderful eye for decorating so I know I'll be back soon.

  40. Can't wait to see Lauren's room when it is finished. It's nice that you and your daughter can enjoy working on this project together. Her school picture is great. She is a beautiful young lady.

  41. Oh Cindy! Lauren is beautiful!! I love her school picture. This is the last picture like that, you know. Next one will be the senior photo!!! She looks a lot like you I think - especially her smile. Her hair is gorgeous and she'll get tired of straightening it one of these days. Her room will be beautiful. I'm trying to get Rachel to finally part with some of the past so we can move on with her room too. I love the colors she selected! Have fun with it!!

  42. What a beautiful young woman! It's hard to see them so grown up sometimes, isn't it? Lauren looks so natural, and you're right, her hair is gorgeous. (We're going through Homecoming right now, and my mom can hardly stand to look at Abby's photos, with all of the evening wear and makeup!) She seems like a wonderful young lady!!

  43. Head Miss Lauren over to www.naturallycurly.com and be prepared to spend some money on products as she learns what to use, but the excess can be donated....she will LOVE her curls. I only straighten mine when I have it colored so I can check the coloring...she needs the book curly girl too...Devachen, etc.

Rock those curls. LOTS of moisture for them, no frizz and she can toss the flatiron AND her hairbrush.

  44. I think it will be fun to decorate with my girls as they get older. I guess there is some give and take in helping them develop a style that reflects their own tastes, but it will be fun to explore new color schemes along the way.

This weekend I am helping with my niece's first birthday. My SIL chose hot pink and black for the colors. That is a stretch for me, but I have had fun playing with a different color palette. Be sure to stop by next week! And I will keep an eye out for Lauren's finished room.
