About 4 years ago I quickly made this kitchen valance out of a piece of toile fabric I found in the remnants section of the fabric store and lined it with a solid blue curtain panel I already had. It was supposed to be just a temporary fix until I figured out what I really wanted to do for this kitchen window. Here it is 4 years later and it's still there and I still have no idea what I want to replace it with. One of my readers recently emailed me to ask how I made it. Well...It couldn't be any simpler, it's just a rectangle that I pulled up with two strips of ribbon. I lined it so it would look nice from the outside and left a small section open to slip a rod through and then stitched just below the rod. I still love the fabric and someday I would like to find more of it and make something a little nicer but who knows, that may be 4 years down the road.

I LOVE your kitchen! The valance fabric is so pretty. Isn't it amazing how fast time goes by. I thought for sure my home would be just the way I've always wanted it to be by now, but it's not even close, ugh.

Your curtains are so pretty! Well I know how you feel. I have been thinking of changing up my window too in the Kitchen. I have been toying with the idea, of full curtains, but not sure if I want fabric, or a lacy curtain.
I too have blinds, so they would stay, but just something else instead of a valance. Pour through your books Cindy, I am sure you'll come up with a better idea.

I had blue and cream toile cloth napkins over a rod, as a valance in our kitchen for seven years. If we had a kitchen window in this home, I would have rehung the napkins. Sometimes simple is best.
I think it looks perfect but I know how you feel...it is nice to have a change every few years.

I recently changed out my valance for a table b/w toile topper that I doubled over a tension rod. I also used black grosgrain ribbon to pull it up a bit. No money necessary as I had it all at home already! It's nice to change things up a bit.

I love that curtain. I love your bathroom balloon curtain too. Both just add so much beauty to the rooms. Did you ever consider balloon curtains in the kitchen. Perhaps the same or similiar fabric as the kitchen ones now? If you do make a change, don't get rid of that curtain, it's too pretty and you could always change back once in awhile.

I think the valance looks so cute and it goes with the plates and the other blue items you have on the counter. I was looking at the chandlier you have hanging over the sink and wonder how you hid the cord. It looks so nice.

Kath, it's really easy, you just throw the ribbon over the top of the curtain rod and then bring the piece in the back, under the curtain and tie it to the end that hangs in the front.
