Roses and a new bedspread

My garden roses are doing really well this year! I picked this bouquet and thought that the colors would be perfect in my bedroom.

Last month when I was at"Move it Elsewhere" I bought this bedspread. It was really stained and I wasn't sure if I would be able to get it clean. I figured if I couldn't get the stains out I could at least use the vintage crocheted lace for something. Luckily I was able to get all the stains out! It was priced at $75 but everything upstairs was 65% off so I got it for $26.25. What a great deal! It's a full size and my bed is a Queen size so it a little small which is why I have it layered.

I may end up putting it under my mattress to layer over my dust ruffle. I think that might look pretty!

A look through the mirrored closet doors...

  1. Oh, it's gorgeous. What do you use to get stains out? I've had limited success with oxyclean -- and hate to use liquid bleach on older linens. Lemon juice and the sun sometimes does it, but most of my yard is in shade. Any tips you'd care to share?

  2. Ivy, I use Oxyclean and Dawn dish soap and I soak it overnight. It's gotten the stains out of EVERYTHING I've used it on!!!

  4. Oh, I never would have thought to add some Dawn! Now I wish I had something to soak--oh wait! I do--I just bought a dingy doily. Off I go to the laundry room.

    Thanks!

  8. LOVE it! Doesn't matter is smaller than the bed, the layered look is soooo sweet. Not since I had "layered" hair in the 80's has "layering" looked so good!

  10. I read the post about cleaning linens. We swear by Biz! In a very stubborn stain, you can make a little paste with water and apply it directly to the stain. It will not fade or ruin your linens, even the very delicate ones. Your bedspread looks fab!!!!!

  11. You are so smart. I would have walked right past if it were stained. It's beautiful layered like that!

  20. Very pretty Cindy! The roses have such a wonderful deep color and of course I'm loving your new coverlet.
Your room is just to "dreamy" and "serene". I have to ask you. Do you really make your bed every morning? I know I try to because I love walking into a room with a "dressed" bed but I'd imagine with working full time, it's hard sometimes to "dress" the bed.
I hope you're enjoying your day and I hope your temps have cooled off. We were at 103 here yesterday, today it's a very comfortable 82.
    hugs!

I would love to know what is going on with your mirror closet doors?? Is that a window treatment of sorts you have hanging in front of it with vintage handkerchiefs rounding it out?? That is a lovely idea.

  35. Absolutely gorgeous roses, Cindy! And I adore the bedspread, especially the edge detail. Just yesterday,I styled a photo shoot at a fabulous turn of the century farmhouse on acres of lush gardens {200 rose bushes} and the bed in the master bedroom was absolutely amazing and dressed in layers just like yours! Your home is already beautiful but it is so fun to watch you keep fine tuning all of the details.

  66. Cindy,
Do you know about Peking Handicrafts in South SF? They wholesale linens, from needlepoint pillows to quilts to battenburg lace. They have warehouse sales from time to time and they have fantastic prices. I believe the next sale is May 9th. I've been going to their sales for nearly 20 yrs. now. Their products are right up your alley. I'm hoping to make the sale this time if I can get down there. Just thought you should know about them... You can check out their website and give them a call to verify the date. :)

  71. Hi Cindy, Love your blog. You have beautiful things and love your blue walls with white linens. We just moved to a new home with actually an arts&crafts theme. Paint roses and deal in old shabby collectables. So this house is confusing me a little. I do also use oxiclean but will try it with dawn. You have inspired me so I just have to set up my painting studio as soon as I can. Sally
