Hugs and Kisses Banner

Look what I made this weekend! I am so thrilled with how it turned out!
It all started when I found this pink toile scrapbook paper. I planned on just putting it on a heart but then I thought it would make a wonderful banner for my hutch so I bought some coordinating scrapbook papers.
I couldn't find any lightweight letters so I bought a thick wood X and O to use as a pattern and a sheet of foam board. (I wanted to spell LOVE but they were out of L's) I traced the letters and the heart on the foam board and cut them out. Had I known that this would take forever to do, I probably wouldn't have started it. Let me tell you...it's really hard to get a clean cut with an X-Acto knife so I had sand the edges to get them straight and smooth...very time consuming!
I really would love to find some lightweight letters so I could make these for my etsy shop! I will be putting some pink toile hearts on my etsy shop soon.
Update: The Toile Hearts are now on my etsy! They are $8.50 each

  5. I LOVE these - and thanks for talking about the process. If I get mired down in something - like having trouble with a knife cutting through foam, I'm all too inclined to think, "that can't be right" and quit...although, I did work with cutting through foam museum board once and I know exactly the problem you were having. At any rate, these look terrific!

  10. What a great banner. I think I might try one myself. I know I have seen thin wooden (maybe balsa wood) before. If I can think of it, I'll let you know. Also, a dremel(sp) tool works great for getting a clean edge when cutting.

  22. I adore these. I actually have that same paper. I've had it for about 2yrs and never found the right thing to use it on. I have since used it to make scrabble tile pendants. now I'm wondering if I have more left to make these adorable hearts! Great idea, thanks for sharing!!

  32. Lovely! Sometimes a small pair of scissors works best. (old school LOL) Also you can print L O V E on your computer (one per page) and use those as patterns if you so desire. Be really hokey and do the O as a heart! :D
